Chapter Forty Four

Julian’s POV

The sound of heavy boots fills the hall like a countdown.

I push Aria behind me, my body shielding hers as the first man steps into the office. Then another. Then two more. Dark suits. Expressionless. Well-trained.

Her father’s calm voice cuts through the air.

“Don’t be foolish, Blackwell. This room is already sealed. You won’t get far.”

I keep my stance wide, my hand closing around Aria’s.

“Then you’ll have to kill me first,” I tell him.

He almost smiles, and for the first time, there’s no charm behind it. Just something cruel.

“I told you once,” he says softly, “you can’t protect her from who you are. Or from why I hired you in the first place.”

The words hit me like a sucker punch.

Hired.

Aria freezes behind me.

“Hired?” she whispers, like she doesn’t want to believe her own ears.

I squeeze her hand, hard.

“Aria, don’t listen to him. Not here. Not like this.”

But she jerks out of my hold.

Her voice cracks.

“Tell me he’s lying.”

Chapter Ninety FiveJulian’s POVI didn’t sleep. Couldn’t.Aria’s breaths were steady, soft against my chest, but my mind was a battlefield. Every time I closed my eyes, the words flashed behind them, taunting, searing: She’s mine. The handwriting wasn’t random. I knew it. The angles, the sharp slashes, it was the same scrawl that had haunted classified reports and backroom deals in the underworld of my father’s empire.I’d buried that name long ago. Or maybe I’d only convinced myself I had.The shadow wasn’t just a threat. It was personal.I shifted, careful not to wake Aria, and slipped from the bed. Her hand twitched against my arm, clutching at air where I’d been, and it nearly undid me. But I had to move. I had to be sure.In the office, I opened the drawer I swore I’d never touch again. Inside, beneath false files and decoy documents, was a slim black folder. My father’s. My inheritance of poison. My hands tightened as I flipped it open, and there it was, scrawled across the mar

Chapter Ninety FourJulian’s POVAria’s trembling still echoed against my chest long after I’d put the gun away. The way her fingers clutched at me, it was a grip born of terror, not weakness. She believed what she saw. Which meant I had to believe it too.I pressed a kiss to her temple, brief, steadying for her and for me before I gently pried her hands from my shirt.“Stay here,” I said again, voice low, steel-wrapped.Her eyes searched mine, wide, pleading, but she nodded. Good girl.I crossed to the control panel recessed into the wall near my study. My fingers moved with calm precision as I keyed in the override, the system recognizing my biometrics instantly. The massive screen blinked to life, split into a dozen live camera feeds of the penthouse.Every angle. Every corner.Empty.But that was the thing about ghosts in the glass. They didn’t show themselves until they wanted to be seen.I rewound the footage, scrubbing back to the exact time Aria said she saw it. My muscles coi

  • In Lust with my Sexy Boss   Through the Glass

Chapter Ninety ThreeAria’s POVThe city stretched beyond the penthouse windows in a glittering sprawl, a living tapestry of light and noise. But to me, it felt distant, separate. Like I was sealed inside a glass cage.Julian had left hours ago to “make inquiries.” His words, clipped and lethal, had curled around me like smoke before he vanished into the night. He hadn’t said where. He rarely did. But the hard gleam in his eyes had promised that someone, somewhere, would regret what happened to me.Now, in the quiet of the penthouse, the silence pressed too heavily against my ears.I wrapped Julian’s shirt tighter around me, it smelled of him, like cedar and heat, like safety. My bare feet padded across the polished floors toward the tall windows. The city should have soothed me. Instead, my reflection caught my gaze, pale and fragile against the darkness outside. And for a split second, I could have sworn… there was another shadow standing just behind mine.I spun around.Nothing.Th

  • In Lust with my Sexy Boss   The Echo of Fear

Chapter Ninety TwoAria’s POVThe room was too quiet.I paced by the tall windows of Julian’s penthouse, arms folded tight across my chest, staring out at the city lights that usually made me feel alive. Tonight, they only looked like distant fires flickering in a world I couldn’t touch. My reflection in the glass was pale, restless. My skin prickled, as though something unseen pressed against it.Julian had told me to stay here. To wait. His voice had been calm, steady, the kind of voice that could silence a storm. But beneath it, I’d sensed the current. Tension. Rage. Something he hadn’t wanted me to feel. And I hated waiting.Every creak of the building, every sigh of the wind against the glass set my nerves jangling. My body betrayed me, palms damp, throat dry, stomach hollow with dread. I pressed my hand against the cool glass, willing the city to whisper back, to tell me everything was fine. But it wasn’t.I knew it wasn’t.Julian had been gone too long.I turned away from the w

  • In Lust with my Sexy Boss   Into the Shadows

Chapter Ninety One Julian’s POVThe elevator doors slid shut behind me with a cold hiss, and for a moment, I caught my reflection in the steel: eyes sharp, jaw tight, every muscle in my body pulled taut like a loaded weapon.Carter’s voice crackled through my earpiece.“East wing, level three. Cameras picked him up five minutes ago. Moving fast. You’ve got a window, but it’s closing.”“Keep eyes on him,” I ordered, my voice low and lethal. The elevator jolted to a stop, and I stepped out into the dim corridor. The floor smelled of bleach and old dust, the kind of emptiness that amplified every sound. My footsteps echoed, the weight of them controlled, deliberate, silent enough to blend with the shadows.Somewhere ahead, the ghost waited.I’d seen the footage, grainy, distorted, but clear enough to shake something deep inside me. Aria’s terror wasn’t unfounded. The man on the screen had walked like he owned the air around him, calm, purposeful, arrogant. And he’d looked directly into

  • In Lust with my Sexy Boss   The Ghost Returns

Chapter NinetyJulian’s POVThe color drained from Aria’s face so fast I thought she might collapse. Her hand was trembling in mine, cold despite the heat that still lingered in the air between us.“Aria,” I said, keeping my voice low, steady, though inside, my chest was a thunderstorm. “Who was that?”Her lips parted, but no sound came. She stared at the phone like it had come alive, like it had whispered a secret meant to unravel her completely.“Aria.” I squeezed her hand, grounding her. “Look at me.”She did. Her eyes were wide, shining, haunted. And in that look, I saw something I had never seen in her before. Not fear, Aria wasn’t easily shaken. This was worse. This was recognition. Her lips moved. A single word slipped out, barely audible.“Impossible.”My blood ran cold. I didn’t need her to say more to understand. Whoever had spoken on that phone wasn’t a stranger.“Tell me.” My voice dropped, harder now, though I forced the edges of anger down. I wasn’t angry at her. I was a
