Blair’s POV

I buried my face in her shoulder again, this time smiling through the tears.

After I finally got the dress I wanted, the shop assistant wrapped it carefully, and Mom and I headed for the parking lot. Just as we reached the car, it hit me that I’d forgotten the flowers.

“Mommy, wait here, okay? I need to grab something real quick.”

“Uhh…”

“I’ll be back before you know it!” I shouted over my shoulder, already sprinting off.

The florist was only a few steps away. I pushed open the glass door, the bell chiming softly as a rush of sweet perfume—roses, lilies, something faintly citrusy—wrapped around me. I slowed down, smiling as I inhaled. In my head, I could already see the bouquets lined up for the ceremony, bright against white linens.

I was turning toward a row of blush-pink peonies when I froze.

Someone was at the counter, broad-shouldered, facing the door. He shifted slightly, turning and my breath snagged in my throat.
