Chapter 27 - The Promise.

It had been four days since my father imprisoned me. Even though he made sure I was taken care of, the inability to communicate with Antonio during this time felt like torture. I was cut off from the outside world, with no access to my phone, internet, or any means of connecting with others.

As I lay in bed, facing the wall, I heard the door creak open. I didn't bother to look, assuming it was just one of the maids bringing in a meal or retrieving an untouched tray. In my loneliness, I simply couldn't muster the energy to care.

"Here," said the unmistakable voice of my father. However, I was too consumed by sadness to be interested in whatever he had brought for me. My mind was preoccupied, and I knew that no gift could alleviate my gloom. The only solution to my misery was Antonio—the one person who held the key to my freedom from this emotional torture.
