Aaron

After settling Rebecca in and watching her fall asleep, I finally felt like I could breathe again. She was safe—for now—and I needed to keep it that way. I grabbed my phone and called Ettore, needing to update him and, more importantly, get answers.

"Ettore," I said, keeping my voice low so as not to wake Rebecca. "I need you to find out where Paolla and Eric are hiding. They’re behind all of this, and I’m done playing defense."

Ettore listened carefully, and I could hear the tension in his voice when he responded.

"Aaron, given everything that’s happened, I’ve already been monitoring them. But they’re smart—they’ve gone to ground. I’ll need more time."

Two days passed with no concrete leads. The waiting was eating at me, but I had to trust Ettore’s process. Meanwhile, Rebecca was recovering, and I did everything I could to keep her calm and protected.

By Monday, Leonel had returned to the estate. I found him in the library, seated in his dark leather armchair, frowning over som

  • In the Name of Ambition    Different Realities

AntonAs I walked down the quiet halls of Bauman headquarters, I reflected on the reason Leonel had summoned me to his office. I knew exactly what my grandfather wanted to discuss. Since I’d arrived, I had heard he’d returned from London and, true to form, hadn’t wasted a second resting. Of course not. For him, life was all about decisions. Leonel Baumann wasn’t the kind of man to take it easy—not even after a transatlantic trip that would’ve left any other eighty-year-old exhausted. The secretary greeted me with a small smile and, before I could even ask anything, said: "Mr. Baumann is already expecting you. You may go in, Mr. Anton."I took a deep breath and stepped inside. There he was, sitting with perfect posture in his leather armchair. Next to him was Dr. Vasquez, the family lawyer for over three decades, holding a folder of documents I knew all too well."I thought you were just calling me in for coffee, Grandpa," I tried to ease the tension, my tone laced with light ir

  • In the Name of Ambition   Nothing Changed…

PietraThe air in the doctor’s office still smelled like alcohol and disinfectant when Dr. Fernandes closed Andressa’s file and smiled. “The tests look great. You can go back to your usual activities—but take it easy. College, sure. Working at the store…” He frowned slightly, studying Andressa’s face. “I think it’s better to wait another month. Physical exhaustion could still slow your recovery.”I let out a sigh of relief, but when I looked at Andressa, expecting to see the usual sparkle in her eyes she always had when receiving good news, I found only a reserved expression. She thanked the doctor with a nod, but her fingers clutched her bag tighter than necessary. In the hospital hallway, while we waited for the elevator, I gently touched her shoulder. “You don’t seem as excited as I thought you’d be.”She took a while to answer, her eyes fixed on the numbers lighting up above the elevator door. "It’s just that..." — she took a deep breath, as if gathering courage — "I wanted

  • In the Name of Ambition   There’s Something More?

AxelMy jaw clenched. A fierce, instinctive alarm went off inside me. The way he looked at her… it wasn’t professional. Not even close."Is your boss married?" I fired, trying to keep my tone neutral, but it came out sharper than I intended.Kimberly turned to me, startled."What?""Just answer me, please." My eyes were locked on hers. "Is he married?"She looked at me like I’d lost my mind, but answered."No… he’s single." She frowned, clearly trying to figure out my reaction. "But what does that—""I’m walking you to the entrance," I cut her off, already opening the

  • In the Name of Ambition   Losing the Battle

AxelWhen I told Fred my decision, he protested, of course."You’re being irresponsible," he grumbled, arms crossed as I opened the door of my Aston Martin for Kimberly. "Leonel won’t approve of this.""Leonel’s not here," I replied, holding his gaze until he backed down.Kimberly got into the car without saying a word, but I caught the corner of her mouth curve slightly when Fred rolled his eyes."At least let us follow you," he insisted.I hesitated for a second. I didn’t want an audience for this conversation, but I couldn’t completely ignore security either."Fine. But keep your distance.

  • In the Name of Ambition    Overflowing Feelings

AxelWhen we returned from the paternity test, I found my grandparents ready to head back to Brazil. According to Leonel, Anton, and Aaron needed his firm hand more than I did at the moment. At least, that’s what he said, or strongly implied. With his departure, the atmosphere in the mansion seemed to shift. It felt lighter, quieter. As if everyone, including me, could finally breathe again. Leonel had that effect: a magnetic, admirable presence, but always demanding. He made you toe the line even without saying a word. And in Kimberly’s case, it seemed he had driven her straight into her room and behind a locked door. She hadn’t left her room since we got back from the clinic the previous afternoon.More than o

  • In the Name of Ambition   The End of Manipulation

AaronPaolla rolled her eyes, as if bored by the whole exchange. With icy composure, she sank onto one of the couches, gesturing for us to sit across from her."To what do I owe this honorable visit?" she asked, crossing her legs with feigned disinterest.Leonel, ever the imposing figure, took the lead."Enough games, Paolla. We know exactly what you and Eric have done. And you will answer for it."For a split second, Paolla’s mask slipped—but then she tossed her hair and smirked."I have no idea what you’re talking about, Leonel. Did Aaron run crying to Grandpa because he lost his little girlfriend?" she taunted, shooting me a venomous glance.I leaned forward, my fists clenched so tight my nails nearly drew blood. Rage burned inside me, but I forced myself to stay controlled."You paid Antônio to lie to me," I said, my voice vibrating with barely restrained fury. "You bribed him to tear Rebecca away from me, to make me believe I’d lost my own child!"My words echoed through the room
