Chapter 87

Adrian

Adrian hated mornings like this they were long, slow, filled with endless reports and meetings. He sat at the head of the conference table, trying to listen as Mark explained the new partnership metrics. The screen in front of them showed graphs and percentages, things Adrian usually cared about deeply, but today none of it held his attention.

He kept glancing at his phone.

Waiting.Hoping.

He didn’t want to admit it out loud, but every day since Christine left the lake house, a part of him waited for her. A message. A call. Even a single line asking about work. Anything at all.

He missed her voice. He missed her calm.

He missed the way she filled a room without trying.

He expected a call after she got the package but was not too surprised when he got back nothing. He knows she's the type that wants to do things are own way

Mark continued speaking.

“…and if we shift the campaign budget…”

Adrian’s phone buzzed once.

His heart jumped so hard that Mark actually paused.

Chapter 91Adrian Adrian reached Adove before sunrise. The city was still half dark and the normally busy streets still quiet, the air cold enough to sting his face. He didn’t feel any of it. His head was full. His chest felt tight. He had barely slept after the chaos of the night before starting with the gossip at DreamSpace, the confrontation with the staff, Christine coming out of her office with worry in her eyes, and then her refusal to go to lunch. He understood why she had said no. He wasn’t angry at her. He was angry at himself. And now there was something bigger waiting for him now the sudden headlines. He walked straight into the elevator and tapped the button for the top floor to his office. The doors closed. For a moment, he allowed himself to breathe just once. But as soon as the doors opened, the storm hit.His assistant, quickly rushed up to him the moment he stepped out.“Sir, the board has been calling since six. They want an emergency meeting. The stock dropped anot

Chapter 90ChristineMorning sunlight spilled through the curtains, warm but somehow unable to reduce the heaviness that had been sitting in my chest since yesterday. I reached for my phone with a sleepy sigh, expecting emails, maybe an early message from Angela or Katy.Instead, the headline slammed into me like icewater.“Adove Stock Continues to Drop After CEO Adrian Kellerham Rejects Billion Dollar Contract. Is the Business Titan Losing His Edge Over Love?”My heart clenched.Love.Me.I sat up instantly, breath catching. The article was everywhere all feeds, notifications, aggregated summaries. All spinning the same narrative: Adrian walked away from a massive international deal because it clashed with DreamSpace’s interests. Because of me.My stomach twisted painfully.I immediately dialed him.The number you have dialed is currently unreachableI tried again. Same response.“Come on, Adrian,” I whispered, pushing out of bed. I hurried to the bathroom, brushing my teeth with on

  • In the name of vows   CHAPTER 89

Chapter 89AdrianAdrian walked beside Christine as they made their way back to her office. He kept a calm expression, but inside, something in him was sinking. He felt so nervous for the first time. She had stood in front of him moments earlier, eyes gentle but guarded, telling him she couldn’t go for lunch. Not today. Not yet.Her voice wasn’t cruel. She wasn’t pushing him away harshly. She was simply standing on the ground she had every right to stand on. Still, the rejection stung deeper than he expected. He swallowed it quietly.“It’s fine,” he said, even though it was not fine. “Another time.”Christine nodded once, small and polite. That tiny nod almost broke him. He wished she would show anger, frustration just anything at all. But she was calm. She was steady. She was hurting, and trying not to show it.He had caused this careful distance. When they reached her office, he stopped.“Have a good rest of your day,” he told her with a soft smile. He forced that smile, but he kept

  • In the name of vows   CHAPTER 88

Chapter 88Christine Christine didn’t speak as she walked back into her office beside Adrian. The office was quieter now, the gossipers stiff and pretending to work, eyes flicking up and then away from her. She felt the heat of their stares, the heavy silence, the tension that always came whenever Adrian entered the room. She hated that silence. And she hated even more that Adrian saw it.He walked a little behind her, his voice lowered.“I didn’t know they were talking like that,” Adrian said. “I didn’t know it had gotten this bad.”She didn’t answer. Her chest felt too tight. They reached her office door, and she turned to him slowly. He softened his voice even more. “Christine I came because your message scared me. And because… I just really had to” He paused, letting out a breath. “I needed to defend you. You didn’t deserve any of that.”She swallowed quietly. “I didn’t expect you to rush here.”“I know.” His eyes held a quiet ache. “But I still care about what happens to you. Sp

  • In the name of vows   CHAPTER 86

Chapter 86Christine The morning sunlight slid gently across Christine’s bedroom window, quiet and warm, the kind of light that usually made her feel calm. She stood in front of her mirror, brushing her hair slowly, trying to steady her thoughts. She looked at the framed sketch Adrian sent her last week was on her vanity table, leaning against her jewelry box. She had moved it there temporarily, only because she wanted to see it before leaving for work.It still surprised her how something so small could soften her heart. She picked it up again, touching the edge of the frame with her fingertips. The sketch was simple it was the first design she ever made in DreamSpace’s even when working with her dad but it carried memories she didn’t know she still held onto. Adrian had seen her dreams before everyone else. He had believed in her talent even when she doubted herself. That truth, no matter how painful, still warmed her.She lifted the frame slightly and smiled. A small smile, but a
