CHAPTER TWENTY THREE

ADRIANS POV

Adrian Kellerham sat alone in his hotel suite, staring out at New York city.

The acquisition meeting had ended hours ago, but he hadn’t returned to his room until late. His team was celebrating downstairs, drinks clinking against glasses in loud victory, but he hadn’t joined them. His mind was elsewhere.

On Christine.

On her stubbornness.

On the way she had chose to constantly provoke him especially this morning when she told him to get out.

He leaned back in his chair while removing his tie with a frustrated sigh. Every part of him knew this was the only way. Marrying her wasn’t just a merger tactic. It was a business decision yes but it was also the only thing that could keep Dreamspace safe.

And he knew also that it was also something else. That this was his chance. He has already admitted to himself the feelings he has and he could my change them.

He stood up from his chair and walked to the minibar in the room, and poured himself a glass of wate

Chapter 85Adrian povAdrian sat at his desk in the quiet of his study. The city outside glimmered faintly, the lights of Adove’s towering building reflecting against the glass like scattered stars. The hum of distant traffic, the occasional honk, and the low murmur of New York city at night created a backdrop of stillness that he almost welcomed. Almost.Tonight, however, the usual comfort of solitude felt different. It wasn’t calm rather it was reflective, tense, full of thought. He had spent days, even weeks, replaying every moment with Christine at the lake house. Her voice, her words, her guarded expressions and all of it haunted him, but not in a way that twisted him with anger. No, it was a sharper, more dangerous feeling it was a mix of awe and fear, respect and regret. For once, Adrian wasn’t thinking like a CEO. He wasn’t thinking about board meetings, profit margins, or the future of Adove. He wasn’t thinking about strategic decisions or corporate dominance. He was thinking

Chapter 84Christine’s povChristine stepped off the train and felt the city swallow her whole. The familiar hum of traffic, the low chatter of people on the sidewalks, the smell of wet sand and early coffee all this should have felt comforting. It didn’t. Instead, it left a hollow ache in her chest. The emptiness she had carried since leaving the lake house felt sharper here, where every building and street corner reminded her of him.She hugged her coat closer around her, though the weather was mild. Her mind replayed every word from their conversation from the confession to the truths, the pain in his eyes, and the weight of her own. She had come seeking answers and had received them. But answers didn’t undo hurt. They didn’t erase betrayal. They didn’t make her trust him again. In thst lake house she has almost let her guard down and wanted them to go back to how they were before everything but she couldn’t still get past the betrayal and the lack of trust in her in not allowing h

  • In the name of vows   CHAPTER 83

Chapter 83AdrianThe door closed behind Christine, soft but final. Adrian stood there long after she disappeared into the early morning darkness, his chest tight and his breath uneven. He didn’t move. He didn’t speak. He just simply stared at the empty doorway where the last piece of her warmth had slipped away. Her words still clung to the air like cold smoke.“You don’t get to buy forgiveness with truth. You’ll have to earn it. Slowly.Without control. Without games.”He had never been spoken to like that not by anyone and especially not by her. Not with such quiet certainty. Christine wasn’t angry. She was resolved. And that terrified him more than her anger ever could. For the first time in a long time, Adrian felt completely powerless. The lake house was silent around him, the kind of silence that made a man confront every thought he had avoided. The faint glow of morning light pushed through the windows, washing the room in pale gold. Nothing felt real. Nothing felt steady.Adria

  • In the name of vows   CHAPTER 82

Chapter 82Christine Christine’s boots clicked softly on the wooden floor as she stepped into the lake house. The place was all too familiar. The walls smelled faintly of pine and old wood, the kind of smell that pulled memories forward before she was ready for them. Her arms were crossed over her chest, not to keep warm, but to keep herself steady. She was here for one reason only that was answers. Not forgiveness. Not reconciliation. Answers. The room was dim, lit by the dying embers of the fire Adrian had carefully prepared. He stood near the fireplace, his posture rigid but his face softer than she remembered. He looked up when she entered, and for a moment, the years they had known each other, the years of friendship and tension and love, pressed into the space between them.“Christine,” he said quietly, almost as if saying her name alone could make everything right. She didn’t answer. Instead, she let her eyes travel across the room, noticing the way he had arranged the chairs,

  • In the name of vows   CHAPTER 81

Chapter 81AdrianThe road to the lake house was quiet. Too quiet for my liking. Adrian drove slowly, his hands firm on the steering wheel, his jaw tight. The sun was already soft and low, turning the sky a pale gold that gently touched the tops of the tall trees. But nothing inside him felt calm. Every turn, every curve of the narrow forest road made his chest feel tighter. He could hear his heartbeat faster than usual. He was not afraid of the road.He was afraid of what waited at the end of it.Or rather, who might not be there. The lake house sat deep inside the woods, a place that held more memories than any other part of his life. A place that once felt safe. A place that once felt like home because she had been part of it. Now he did not know what it would feel like. He only knew he needed to see her. Needed to talk. Needed to finally tell the truth without hiding behind pride, control, or power. He slowed the car when the house came into view. The wooden cabin stood near the e

Chapter 80 Christine The world always seems to find out before I do.By the time I reach my office that morning, the headlines are already everywhere in the company flashing across news feeds, investor bulletins, social media threads that dissect every word like blood in the water.“Brian hale exposed; Financial sabotage within Dreamspace uncovered.”“Whistleblower inside source; Christaina Paige’s husband company Adrian kellerhams Adove protect Dreamspace assets . Is this declaration of love ?”“Christine kellerham formerly Paige ; The woman at the center of corporate scandals.” My name again. Always my name.Angela comes to her office she looks pale as she sets a stack of newspapers on my desk. “I tried to stop the reporters, Christy but they’ve been calling nonstop since sunrise. They’re saying—”“I’ve seen it,” I interrupt softly, fingers tightening around the paper. “Thank you, Angela. You can take the rest of the day off.”She hesitates, worry clouding her eyes. “Are you sur
