CHARLOTTE'S POV
I stared at the man who walked in in shock. How did he find me? And why was he here? Mr Sam is going to hurt him! He looked at me with a shocked expression and I shook my head at him as I tried to tell him to leave. Mr Sam got up and walked to him and I panicked. I can't endanger a stranger that saved my life. I got up and held Mr Sam's hand, stopping him from moving forward. “He doesn't know anything about this. Please let him go. He has nothing to do with me at all. He's probably in the wrong house. You can do whatever you want to me just- just let him leave first. Please.” I pleaded with him and a smirk formed on his face as he yanked my hands away from his and pulled my hair tightly. “Let her go! Why are you doing this? What has she done to you?” The stranger asked and tried to come closer and I knew I had to do something. “NO! Go away! Just leave and never come back! You were never welcome here anyway. This is all your fault! If you had left me to die yesterday, then none of this would be happening! Just get out!” I yelled at the top of my voice and the hurt expression on his face broke my heart but I had no choice. I had to make him leave so he wouldn't get hurt. Mr Sam laughed as he flung me towards the bed and walked to him. “I love this drama, can I have more of it? Listen to me ugly face, I don't know who you are and I don't care-” “I'm her husband.” Mr Sam looked at him confused and he repeated it. “I'm her husband. You asked who I was and I'm telling you now that I'm her husband and she's my wife.” I stared at him with my mouth wide open and Mr. Sam looked more surprised than I was. It took a while for him to process what he had heard and when he finally did, he burst into laughter, holding his stomach as his body wracked. “You? Her? Husband and wife? Pfft please!” He continued laughing and the rest of his gang joined him, laughing their asses out. To my surprise, he looked so calm and waited for them to snap out of their laughing state. “She's my wife and I've come to take her home with me. Do you have a problem with that?” He asked, with a brow raised and I could swear he looked so attractive doing that. Mr Sam's expression changed and in anger, he ordered one of his men to hold him down. No no no, this was what I was trying to avoid! I appreciate him trying to save me but these men will do anything to destroy his life! I tried to get up but I fell back down immediately as my head pounded really hard and my vision got blurry. The huge man walked up to him and tried to pick him up but he sent the huge man flying in a split second. My brain immediately came to life and I stared at him in shock. What just happened? He cracked his knuckles and rolled his head slightly as he flexed his arms. How did he do that so effortlessly? “Who's next?” He asked with a smile and it only made Mr Sam angrier. “Get him! And make him kneel before me!” His minions went after him and he took them out one after the other. My house was a huge disaster with dents and cracks everywhere. With all his minions knocked unconscious, Mr Sam got scared and looked around for something to defend himself. The strange man walked to Mr Sam and raised his arm like he was about to punch him and when Mr Sam flinched in fear, he laughed and flicked his forehead. “I don't know why you're treating her like this... But this is not the way to go about it. This is considered assault and abuse and you could spend the rest of your life behind bars.” He shook his head in disappointment and walked towards me with a smile on his face. “I-” He didn't let me speak as he picked me up and took me to his car. When he made sure I was well tucked in, he looked at me and I knew he had a lot of questions to ask me. “What's your name?” I asked him and he looked shocked, not expecting that question from me at all. “Owen.” He answered and he stared at the road with his hands gripping the steering wheel. “You can ask me anything. I'll answer. You've saved my life twice now and I owe you big time.” A look of relief washed over his face and he turned to look at me. “Why did you run away from the hospital?” That was not the question I was expecting him to ask, he surprised me a lot. I looked down at my hands, not knowing how to answer his question. I played with my fingers and he seemed to notice how nervous I was. “If you don't want to answer then it's fine. You don't-” “I don't understand why I left either. But I wasn't comfortable there. And I felt like I didn't deserve the treatment or your kindness. All these things happening to me are my doings. I wouldn't want to bother anyone or be a burden.” I looked up at him with tears welling up in my eyes and I felt nothing but gratitude towards him. “I'm extremely grateful that you came for me. But what happened today should never happen again! What if they had killed you? What if you got injured because of me? What if-” “But I'm fine right? And I was able to get you out of there safely. I don't get into what I know I can't handle. I have a black belt in karate. Who were those men by the way and why did they do this to you?” He asked as he finally turned on the car's engine and drove us to the hospital. “They're loan sharks. My parents took a huge loan from them and when they died, I had to take the responsibility of paying it up. Whenever I couldn't pay up, they did this to me. Beat me up and abuse me badly. I got fired from my job yesterday and that was why I decided to commit suicide. But you ruined everything.” I explained with a small voice and he sighed, running his hand over his hair. “Should I be sorry I saved your life? Because I'm not. You did nothing wrong! Why should you suffer for what your parents did? It makes no sense!” He complained and I almost smiled at his expression. He drove into the hospital and when he got out, he picked me up like I weighed nothing. I tried not to think too much about it but it felt nice to be carried. The nurses looked surprised to see us again and he spoke to them harshly because of their lack of security. He made sure that they all kept their eyes on me and checked up on me every now and then so I wouldn't run away again. He also generously donated some money for getting more security in the hospital. Which, of course, made them all very happy. When he walked inside the room and made sure I was feeling comfortable on the bed, I looked at him nervously and he raised a brow at me. “You want to ask me something?” He asked and I nodded slightly. “Well go ahead, stop staring at me like I could bite you or something.” I sighed and played with my fingers, anxiety, and worry taking over me. “Can you... help me? With my debt I mean. If I leave here now, Mr. Sam will find me and I don't know what he'll do to me again. You look very rich and I'm sure you'll need a worker or something so what I'm saying is... Can you help me? I will work for you until I'm able to pay it all up.” He stared at me like I was stupid and I almost slapped myself for bringing up such an idea. “So you want me to help you with your debts while you work for me until you're able to pay up? Why would I wanna do that?” He asked nonchalantly and I wracked my brain for an answer until I got one. “Be-because you said you're my husband and therefore you need to take responsibility for your wife.” I stuttered and mentally facepalmed myself as he stared at me in amusement. What stupidity did I just let out? “Because you're my wife huh...” He looked like he was thinking of something and suddenly he looked at me with a mischievous smile. “Alright, I'll help you. But I have a condition.”OWEN'S POVMonths had passed since my parents’ death and Caleb's cruel execution. One that he deserved. I couldn't help but remember him every now and then. The happy times we shared, the bliss and excitement that we experienced together… How could it all be a lie?“Snap out of it, Mister. The brides will be here any minute.” Ethan said as he helped me straighten my bow and suit and I rubbed my hands nervously.“Tell me the truth, Ethan, do I look good enough?” I whispered and he hit my shoulder as he fixed his bow too and stood beside me.“Don't you know that you have the limelight on you? I'm in the shadows here, Sir.” He said with a chuckle and I chuckled too as the priest walked up to the altar.“Can you believe it? We're both getting married on the same day to inseparable friends. This is called what, fate?” I mumbled and he shook his head in amusement as we turned to look at the entrance.“Damn it! The rings!” I exclaimed in horror and he slapped the back of my head as he took i
CHARLOTTE'S POVI took deep breaths as I stood in front of the beautiful gates and Owen took my hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. I lifted my head to look at me and he had a small smile on his face as he rang the doorbell twice. We waited in silence, my breath held in nervousness and after a while, someone pulled the door open. I plastered a smile on my face and when the man looked at me then at Owen, a warm smile formed on his face as he opened the gate wide open for us to come in.I was surprised at how he treated us but then, who wouldn't treat Owen right, knowing who is? We walked inside hand in hand and the man guided us inside the house and told us to wait while he called his bosses.I glanced around and the beauty of the house took my breath away. It was magnificent and luxurious. It reminded me of how I felt when I first stepped into the Walkers’ house.“Are you okay?” Owen asked as he rubbed my hands gently and I nodded.“Just a bit nervous. That's all.” I said with a ner
CHARLOTTE'S POVI wasn't just nervous, I was panicking. The anxiety threatened to swallow me whole and sweat kept running down my face, ruining my makeup for the fifth time.“Char, come on! It's not even hot yet you're sweating so much. You know what, you don't need makeup. You're already so pretty on your own. Just stop being so nervous and scared. They're your parents, not God.” Rose said as she took out another wiper and started to wipe my face clean.I knew she was right but I couldn't help the fear that clawed at my throat, threatening to end me.“You don't get it, Rose. This isn't just anybody. These people are almost on par with Owen! How am I supposed to feel knowing that my biological parents are important figures in the country and I lived my whole life running from debt? Make it make sense, Rose!” I exclaimed in frustration as I collapsed into the chair.“We should have gotten this over with a month ago but they just had to leave the country at that time. Now they're back a
OWEN'S POVThe day was finally here. The day of judgment for Caleb.Charlotte and I stood hand in hand in the crowded courtroom, the tension in the air thick enough to slice through with a knife. My grip on her hand tightened and she looked at me with a reassuring smile.I turned and my eyes met Caleb's, who stood at the defendant's table with his expression showing that he was unbothered. He looked like he was ready to face whatever came his way, like he didn't care and none of this mattered to him.For a man who had caused me so much pain, he was very calm, which disturbed me greatly.I clenched my fist as the weight of everything he had done began to press down on me so much that it almost suffocated me.My parents... Charlotte’s parents... Beatrice… those innocent lives that he took. How could he stand there without a sign of remorse? The judge finally entered, and the room went silent. Everyone stood as we waited for him to take his seat. My heart pounded harshly in my chest as I
CHARLOTTE'S POVI stared at Owen in confusion and he ran a hand through his hair as he took a seat beside me and held my hands.“I'm serious. Caleb found out first, then Ethan found out and he told me. That's what we were discussing that day. I know it's hard to believe but I have evidence and proof. You are the legitimate and missing daughter of the Davies.” Owen explained and I just stared at him like he was cracking a joke.“Don't you think this is a very expensive joke? What do you mean by I'm the daughter of the Davies? Like ‘The Davies’. Are you trying to mess with me right now?” I asked in annoyance as I got off the bed and Owen sighed as he stood up with me.“He's right, Charlotte.” Ethan butted in and I glanced at him in confusion.“Hold on…this isn't a prank. You're actually serious about this.” I clarified and my heart sank when they nodded in affirmation.“How is this possible? I grew up with my parents. All my childhood memories that I can recall were with them. They neve
OWEN'S POV“What was it?” I asked in confusion and he sat up as he leaned towards me.“A bulletproof.” He replied and my brows creased in confusion. What did he mean by that?“What do you mean bulletproof? How would that have saved my life?” I asked and he let out a chuckle.“Well, it saved mine. Without a second thought, I went to the store room and grabbed the only one that was available there. I remember when you told your father that it wasn't needed and that he shouldn't get it. It eventually came in handy.”“I was supposed to take it to you so that you could escape unscathed but I was too late. He already held you at gunpoint so I had no choice but to wear it under my clothes and act as your bulletproof. The first shot actually hit me. Right here.” He pointed at his lower abdomen and my eyes widened in realization.“That's why there was blood everywhere and it made my fake death even more believable. The rest of the bullets bounced off and didn't touch me. I had no idea that Bea
