"What are you doing on this territory!" His voice sends spikes of fear throughout me and I whimper, hoping he won't get any louder than he currently is. I have never liked it when people yell in anger, especially when the yelling is directed towards me. I try to move away but end up whimpering in pain.

"Shift!" The man demanded and the two wolves at his sides growl, warning me to do what he says. I tried to back up even more but a growl left the two wolves’ mouths again, putting more fear into me. I tried shifting but howled at the pain that went through my small body. I tried again but gave up once the pain increased.

When wolves are close enough they should be able to mindlink each other, regardless of their relation. However, when I try it seems like they can’t hear me. I’m injured, please help me. I repeat this over and over again but they don’t pick up on it. The wolves and the man looked at me in confusion but it was quickly replaced by anger towards me. I tried backing up again, in fear of what the beings in front of me might do (like kill me or something), but only experienced more excruciating pain.

Ancillary, help me! I pleaded but she still didn't answer me. I needed my wolf, I needed someone to be here and help me and she has always been there; ever since I had first shifted when I was fourteen. She had always had that bit of confidence that I lacked majorly because she was fifty percent confidence, twenty five percent crazy, and twenty five percent like a mother: always telling me what’s best and what I can do in times of need. Her crazy confidence tended to leak into the advice though, telling me that we should do something fun despite the fact that it could possibly get me in trouble. I never wanted to grow up because of how much these antics Ancillary came up with gave me some of the only fun in my life. Now that I am on my own, I am really going to need that. Unless these beings in front of me kill me.

"I said shift! You will do as you are told you filthy rogue!" The man demanded again, trying to put more authority into his voice than he actually had. He took a step forward and I whimpered. His steps got slower, he was taking cautious steps. Why? Did he actually care about me? I doubted he did, but why was he being cautious. The only people who actually cared about me enough to be careful around me was my mother and the pack elders. If anything he should be angrier. "Why aren't you shifting?" He asked softly to himself. He looked me over but shook his head, "I don't understand. You're just doing this to frustrate me aren't you?" The anger and authority was back in his voice and the fear was once again coursing through me, making me physically shake. The shaking only adding more ripples of pain to flow throughout my body.

I tried to hide my head, too scared to look at him. He growled at me, making the two wolves growl along. I flinched and I looked back up but avoided his eyes that danced with fire.

"What are you, stupid?" He growled out, once again trying to have more authority than he actually had, "I told you to shift! If I tell you to do something, you'll do it!"

I backed up further, hoping to disappear into the tree. Maybe, I thought, the tree will swallow me whole and I won't be here anymore.

"Do you hear me!" He yelled so loud I swore I saw some of the trees around us shake. He snarled in anger and turned to the two wolves that were still growling behind him.

The wolves eyes glazed over and I knew they were using the mind link. I remember I used to complain to my dad because I thought he was ignoring me whenever he was mind linking someone, usually my mom or our Alpha.

My dad. He's a topic I like to avoid. You see, my dad was my hero. He was a strong fighter, the beta of our pack, and over all he was the one who was there for me whenever I needed someone. Like if the older kids teased me or something. When he was gone I felt like it was over. I still had Mom but she was mourning and was depressed without her mate. Then when people started picking on me and pushing me around, she didn't notice. My hero was gone forever.

The two wolves grunted and turned to look at me, watching my every move as if I was just waiting for a moment to attack. The man had stopped talking to me but he still had frustration in his eyes that doubled every time he glanced at me.

Eventually the pain started to worsen and I cried out. I didn't understand what was going on with me. The pain was burning, throbbing, and any other thing you could think of. I started to whine in pain and I couldn't stop.

The man and the wolves looked at me but didn't do anything when they saw me in obvious pain. What kind of a person just sits there when someone is obviously in extreme pain and just watches?

"Hush you," the man snarled, "He's almost here." I bit my tongue.

He, I thought, Who's he? Panic coursed through me. What are these people planning on doing to me? Hurting me? Killing me? Death might be the easiest way to deal with this, I thought.

The man sat down on the ground and the wolves stayed put, making sure I didn't move from where I was.

As I laid down, I thought about my life. If I was going to die then I wanted my last thoughts to be about my family. Mom. Dad, I thought with all the love that I could possibly muster up in my heart, I think I'm coming to see you guys soon.

As I thought this I heard the snapping of twigs, making my eyes snap towards it. As the sound got closer I smelt the most amazing smell of coconut and fresh rain. I breathed in the smell deeply before a man came out from the trees. He took one look at me and growled out, "Mine!"

  • Innocent Little Runt    Epilouge

Celeste's POV A pained scream echoed throughout the pack along with the familiar wail that I hadn't heard in a few months. I sighed and pushed myself up but I was held down by Xavier's arms. "Don't go," he groans out. "He'll be fine." I roll my eyes at him. "Let go of me Xavier or else," I threaten. I gasp as I'm suddenly pinned to the bed, Xavier hovering above me with a smirk on his face. "Or else what?" I go to respond but before I could his lips are on mine. I shove him off of me with all of my strength and even though it doesn't compare to his he moves off of me. I walk to the door and smile when Xavier already has it open for me. It was a new door that Xavier had built to connect to the nursery that was also built while I was pregnant. I walk into the room to see the comforting yellow walls with purple animals painted throughout the room. I quickly run over to the crib and pick up my crying baby boy. His tuff of dark brown hair is a mess as usual but his green eyes

  • Innocent Little Runt    Chapter 76

Celeste's POV Xavier had me stay in our room while the pack was cleaned up. He didn't want me to see them burning the experiments bodies. That didn't stop the smell that drifted into the room. I just grabbed all of the scented candles that I have in the bathroom for when I want to relax and lit all of them. It wasn't exactly pleasant but it wasn't as bad as the smell of burning bodies. I turned on the television as I tried to ignore the sounds of the large fire that was going on not too far from the balcony. I wanted the memory of this fight gone. Everyone did. Jared seemed over protective of Zay now. It was understandable of course. His sister had died, like actually died. I remember his screams when he saw her. Everyone was devastated. I couldn't even look at her but Jared was the most heart broken, perhaps second next to Kaleshia. Thanks to Kaleshia though, she is back. Kaleshia says she is immortal now but that it was the only way she could save her. I don't know how Zay

  • Innocent Little Runt    Chapter 75

Kaleshia's POV I sobbed as I held Zay's body. She's gone. She left me. I tried to ignore the sound of the few remaining experiments pounding on the barrier I had put up around Zay and I. "Stop!" I screamed at them, "Go away!" I held her to me tighter. "Please go away," I whispered. They wouldn't listen of course. They kept pounding at the barrier, ignoring when their arms, hands, or feet would get shocked. I looked around the yard through blurry eyes. There was very few experiments that weren't around Zay and I and it seemed that the others were handling them just fine. Are we winning? No, we aren't. At least I'm not. I lost the moment I lost Zay. I screamed, forcing the barrier away from me at least a few feet. The experiments screamed as they fell to the ground, dying. I forced the barrier back to me, knowing I was using up all of my energy. Even if I can't die, someone could kill me. Using up my energy would make it easier for them. I didn't want to live anymore. Not w

  • Innocent Little Runt    Chapter 74

Lycer's POV I look around from the roof of the pack house. I can't tell who is winning this battle. They have more casualties than we do but they have so many people. No, they're not people. They're not even werewolves anymore. They're just experiments. In the end, no one is truly going to win I think. A bright blue light starts to come from one side of the yard and I quickly turn around to see what it is. Kaleshia is on the ground, a blue barrier seeming to surround her as she holds something in her arms. No, someone. I squint my eyes and anger surges through me when I see that it's Zay's non-moving form. I quickly go back to doing what I was doing before, looking for Malum. I spot Xavier who I knew was doing the same thing. He shakes his head, telling me he hasn't seen him either. I described what he looks like so Xavier can at least guess, not to mention he'd be one of the only ones to look normal who isn't from his pack. There might be a few experiments who look kind of

  • Innocent Little Runt    Chapter 73

Zay's POV I stared at Celeste, wide eyed. "What?" I finally spoke after what seemed forever of silence. "Please don't make me say it again. I almost threw up the first time." I nodded but I couldn't stop staring at her in shock. "How do you know?" I'm the pack doctor, she should have come to me when she thought of it even being possible. "I uh. . . I remembered that Lesa said she started to get morning sickness before she was even sure. I tried to keep it hidden from Xavier, thinking maybe I just got food poisoning. But after a few days I went into your office while Xavier was working and you weren’t there. I took a few of the pregnancy tests. When the first one said positive, I didn't believe it but the next two said the same thing." She put her head in her hands and let out a breath. "You haven't told Xavier?" She shook her head. "How long ago was this?" She looked back up to me, her eyes almost as worried as mine. "Less than a week ago I think. I mean, I have bee

  • Innocent Little Runt    Chapter 72

Zay's POV I stared around at the pack. Everyone was rushing around, trying to do whatever they could. Those who couldn't fight went to the shelters while everyone else tried to find weapons or something that could help them in battle. Even those who fight mainly in wolf form knew weapons could help. At this point, anything could help. My eyes dart to a blonde woman with purple highlights and a baby in her arms running towards me. "Lesa! What are you doing out here? Get inside!" Lesa was a great and gifted fighter, especially in human form. Her dad had taught her well but she wouldn't be fighting today. Her only job today would be to protect her son. "I was out visiting a friend when the sirens sounded. I got here as fast as I could." Wesley started to cry in her arms, his pale cheeks turning red. She cooed him and bounced him, trying to calm him down but the sirens that were still going off weren't helping. His hearing was a bit sensitive after all. "Well either go to my o
