Seth POV
Before losing consciousness, the last thing I remember is the rogue with his red eyes staring at me filled with hatred. He muttered something under his breath and then pulled out a gun, aiming it at his own jaw and pulling the trigger. After that, my world plunged into darkness. I thought my life was over, until I woke up again, in excruciating pain and completely drained of strength. Standing by my side was a female werewolf with a round face and a curious expression. Her face was inches away from mine, but she seemed startled and kept stepping back. Almost at the same time, I heard the clear voice of my wolf spirit behind my ear. "She is my mate." But at this moment, I had almost no strength to assess the situation in front of me and I passed out again. When I opened my eyes again, I found myself lying in a hospital bed, with the strong smell of disinfectant making my head throb. I turned my head slightly and saw my mother with a sorrowful expression on her face. "You finally woke up, I was so worried," she said. "Mother, I'm sorry for making you worry," I weakly replied. "Fortunately, you made it through, and this time we really have to thank Lorena," my mother wiped her tears. "Who?" I was confused. "To save you, we found a Dark Moon Pack girl and bonded you as mates, enhancing your power through the mate connection," my father, who had been silent, suddenly spoke up. It took me a while to understand the meaning of this sentence. I remember the Dark Moon Pack, a powerful tribe that once helped my family a great deal over ten years ago, but unfortunately declined mysteriously under the current Alpha. I had also met that Alpha before, and his extreme flattery towards me was in stark contrast to how he treated his Luna, which left a bad impression on me. But now, they want me to become mates with someone from that family? I can't accept it. Besides, I already have a loved one. My mother explained, "Before, you stayed in the intensive care unit for half a month. The doctors said there was no hope and asked us to take you home to prepare for the worst. But the witch doctor told us that a mate bond is our last resort, so we found a werewolf to perform a ceremony with you." After listening, a grimace appeared on my face. "Mother, I am already in a relationship. How could you casually find a girl from that tribe?" "Are you still bringing up your lover? Since your accident, we have lost contact with your girlfriend. Her family even directly rejected our request for her to come and help you." I was speechless. This situation was something I hadn't anticipated. I could only respond coldly, "I couldn't even survive according to the doctors' diagnosis at that time. Why would the Alpha of the Dark Moon Pack agree to let his daughter do such a thing?" "We considered that they wouldn't agree, so no matter the outcome, we promised to provide them with material compensation. We won't let them lose out." "No wonder," I couldn't help but sarcastically remark. "You don't need to be so verbose, she is somewhat your savior." My father interrupted me sternly. Then I turned my head and saw a petite girl hiding at the door. "Lorena, why are you standing at the door? Come in quickly." My father waved at her with a friendly smile. She had to come in, seeming somewhat reluctant. I observed Lorena from my sickbed. This was the first time I had seen my mate. I wasn't sure if the mate bond I had felt before losing consciousness again was because she was indeed my mate or because of the ritual. She was still wearing the ceremonial robe, her oval face with a hint of baby fat, and her innocent eyes resembling a young deer. Her appearance should have been pure and lovely, but under the dark clothing, her fair skin looked as white as snow, like a rosebud waiting to bloom. I had to admit she was quite beautiful. But I had seen plenty of beautiful women before. "Mom and Dad, could you please step outside? I have something to say to her," I said coldly. "Do not bully Lorena, or else I won't recognize you as my son," my father warned before leaving with my mother. I chuckled. The more innocent and unsuspecting her eyes looked, the more cunning she seemed. "Did you agree to this just for money or something? I'll give you fifty million, and once I recover, you'll accept my rejection," I said impatiently. "Alright," Lorena blinked her eyes and nodded. Upon hearing her response, my contemptuous gaze intensified. "I guessed right. You're just a money-oriented woman." Lorena showed a surprised expression. "Even dead men would open their eyes wide when they see money. It's not like I'm dead." "Deceptive and unpredictable," I grew even more displeased. Lorena was speechless. "Is there something wrong with your head?" "What did you say?" My pale face suddenly turned dark, like a harbinger of a storm. "Did I say something wrong?" Lorena's dark eyes revealed confusion. "I've never seen you before, and I don't know you. When Alpha King proposed that you become my mate, almost everyone in the tribe knew you were doomed. I'm so young, and I don't even like you. If it weren't for the benefits, who would agree?" I angrily exclaimed, "You!" "Or maybe you think you're a shining star, and I'm supposed to fall head over heels in love just by hearing your name." Lorena poured more fuel onto the fire. I was so furious that I wanted to stand up, but as soon as I sat up a bit, my head started spinning. "Take it easy, after all, you're a patient." Lorena kindly came up to help me. I angrily pushed her hand away, "Get lost, don't let me see you again." "Well then, I'll leave first. Take good care of your injuries and try not to get angry too often." I couldn't help but feel sarcastic. I really don't understand how the Alpha of the Dark Moon Pack raised such a materialistic daughter. After Lorena finished speaking, she didn't care about my pale face and walked away without hesitation. Of course, after she left, everything in the room was shattered on the floor. Wesley, my beta, entered and saw the mess on the floor, which made me sigh. I immediately gave him a stern look, and he promptly smiled and went out again to call the caretaker to clean up the scattered things. "Do you know about this?" I asked in a sinister tone. "Yes," Wesley said, still smiling. "You also know about me and Nola, so why didn't you go find her?" My anger grew stronger upon seeing his smiling face. "Miss Barlow has been completely unreachable since your incident. She was also firmly rejected when your father tried to communicate with the Alpha of their tribe. I believe there is no need to get entangled. Besides..." "Besides what?" "Besides, I believe Miss Jones is not a materialistic person. She might be a good match for you." "Shut up." My emotions calmed down slightly. I knew Wesley wouldn't have anything nice to say. "There's one more thing," Wesley spoke up as if just remembering, "King said before he left, if you dare reject Miss Jones, he will kick you out of the house."Lorena POVThe next afternoon after finishing my last class, I headed straight to the supermarket. It was my first time cooking lobster, so I needed to prepare the necessary ingredients. However, I had no experience in the kitchen and it was quite challenging for me to take on such a difficult ingredient, especially since I had to cook for Seth, who loves to challenge me. Of course, I wasn't completely unprepared. When I returned to the apartment, Shana had been waiting at the door for a while. Yes, Shana is my strongest support. "Shana, why did you come so early?""I didn't have anything to do today, so I came early." Shana took things from my hands and asked me to open the door first. We put the ingredients in the kitchen, tidied up a bit, and started preparing dinner for tonight. While preparing the meal, I couldn't help but ramble on about my experiences during this time with Shana."Even though you've said so much, is that Kit guy interested in you?" Shana asked."Kit is a nice p
Lorena POVIn that moment, I wished I could just dig a hole and disappear. There's nothing more embarrassing than getting caught lying on the spot.Seth, the subject of the conversation, leisurely walked over with his long legs."Seth, I don't believe you would really kiss her. She must be bragging. Haven't you always liked Nola?" Rosanne wanted to expose my lie right then and there. "Nola is talented and knowledgeable. You can't compare to her even in a single strand of hair.""It's none of your business, Rosanne."Seth ruffled Rosanne's hair and held my wrist with his other hand. My body stiffened, and I looked up at the man beside me. His handsome face was lowered, with his gaze as deep as jade. As our eyes met, my cheeks blazed with heat, and I quickly looked down like a quail.Rosanne was defiant. "Seth, I'm an adult too, just like Lorena.""But you haven't found your own mate yet," Seth said nonchalantly, and he pulled me away from Rodriguez's house. In the old mansion of the Ro
Lorena POVTonight's dinner was really sumptuous, just as Seth mentioned. We had fresh Australian lobsters flown in, and there were four of them. We also had French grilled lamb chops and leg of lamb. The fresh ingredients were cooked by a five-star chef, and as soon as the dishes were brought out, the aroma was so enticing that I could feel it in every part of my body.Unfortunately, I was already full after having that cup of mocha earlier. So now, I can only eat half of a lobster and one grilled lamb chop.King noticed and asked with concern, "Why aren't you eating? Are you feeling unwell?"Rosanne sneered, " I bet you've never had anything like it in your life. You should eat more.""I do want to eat more, but I had a large cup of mocha on the way here. If I had known there would be so much delicious food, I would have drunk less." Faced with her sarcasm, I chose to explain gracefully.Rosanne scoffed, "Hick, we eat things like this all the time."I smiled slightly, "Is that so? S
Lorena POVIn the evening, the car drove into the old Rodriguez mansion. As I looked at this ancient mansion at sunset, I couldn't help but feel a sense of indescribable oppression. As Seth and I walked inside, something came to my mind, something that had been troubling me for a long time, so I finally asked, "Is your sister studying abroad?""No, she goes to the same university as you. She went overseas for an exchange program during the summer," Seth replied as we walked. The Rodriguez house seemed quite lively today. We hadn't even reached the front door when we could already hear Luna and Ruby's laughter from inside. My mind wandered. Seth's sister goes to the same university as me? A bad premonition welled up in me, and I think I knew who it was.In shock, I looked into the living room and immediately saw the young girl sitting next to Luna. She had curly hair, was dressed elegantly, and had a delicate, beautiful face that exuded confidence and charm.Suddenly, I remembered the
Seth POVThe Rodriguez family mansion.I finished breakfast and planned to go to work. It has been a week since the incident at the hotel, and I haven't contacted her for many days. I wanted to chat with her, but every time I tried to speak, I didn't know what to say and gave up.Just as I pushed the chair back, my father called me, "Wait, I have something to tell you.""What is it?" I turned around, not paying attention to the coldness on my face.My father looked at me and said, "Tomorrow, your sister Rosanne is coming back from England. Bring Lorena back and have a reunion dinner, let them get to know each other."My mother was in a good mood, "It seems that Rosanne and Lorena are about the same age, both still in college.""Yes, they should have things to talk about." After my father agreed, he suddenly noticed that I was still cold-faced and silent. "What's wrong? Haven't you apologized to her?""I did apologize." I didn't know how to explain, but I really don't want to see Loren
Lorena POVI hesitated for a moment, but deep down, I really wanted to agree. The look in Seth's eyes was incredibly sincere, and the fire in his eyes almost engulfed me. However, I knew that my status was insignificant to Seth, and if it wasn't for that accident, our paths would never have crossed. As for me, I wasn't sure if the current attraction was due to the pheromones between mates or if we truly were compatible."I'm sorry," I lied after a moment of consideration, "even though you are exceptional, I also desire a genuine emotional connection. My previous idea was that if you were to pass away, I could avoid offending the King and also receive a large sum of money as a widow before seeking true love. I am still young and I want to experience what it feels like to be loved."Seth didn't say anything, but he just looked down at me with his cold, thin lips pursed from above."Very well," he said coldly after a few seconds, as he buttoned up his shirt, "I thought you were a smart w
