By the time they finally left the school premises, both Adeline and Aiden, who were sitting at the back, were already tired, and Adeline was already dozing off. Sophia glanced up at the rearview mirror to see Aiden, who was staring out the window while Addie’s head was resting on his shoulders.

Her shift for the day hadn't ended yet, which meant she still had to return to the hospital and wouldn’t be able to spend time with the twins. On such a rare occasion when Alex was there, she would have loved for them to spend some time together.

Sophia pressed her lips into a thin line and spared Alex a glance, and her gaze dropped to their fingers, which were intertwined with each other. She wasn’t sure when Alex had held her and intertwined their fingers, but despite his eyes, which were on the road, and his attention on driving, he was absentmindedly rubbing his thumb over her index finger.
