°Cassie POV°

"What do you think you're about to do?" Jerald shouted, his deep voice filling the suddenly quiet hall. Even the music that had been playing earlier stopped.

Layla’s eyes widened in shock. She opened her mouth to speak, but before she could, Scott quickly stepped forward. "I apologize on her behalf, Mr. Lewis."

Jerald’s gaze shifted from her to Scott, his expression turning cold and sharp.

"Sorry?" he repeated, his tone low but dangerous. "You think a simple sorry covers the disrespect she just showed my wife?"

"Your wife?" Layla’s face turned pale in confusion as her gaze drifted toward me.

Jerald took a step closer, his presence dominating the space around them. "Yes, she is my wife. And you don’t walk into an event hosted by the Lewis family and try to humiliate my wife in front of everyone," he said, his voice steady but filled with restrained anger. "Now apologize to her, and I'll look past all this."

Layla gasped, confusion flashing across her face, but the real ent

  • It's Too Late Now   Chapter 9

•Scott POV•The little girl in front of me stared up with wide, curious eyes, gray and bright, almost piercing straight into my soul.I smiled. There was something about her energy, so full of life and innocence, that reminded me painfully of Cassie’s old dream of having a child. She used to talk about it almost every day. The memory made a sharp pain shoot through my chest. And seeing her today, with that man by her side, made me realize just how foolish I had been back then.“Mister, is something wrong?” the little girl asked softly, tilting her head as she studied me.I forced a small smile. “No, angel. I was just thinking about the right answer to your question.”She bounced lightly on her toes, excitement dancing across her face. The cool evening breeze brushed her cheeks, sending strands of her golden-brown hair fluttering. Without thinking, I reached out to tuck one behind her ear, but before my hand could reach her, someone pulled her away.“Mommy!” she squealed, and my heart

•Cassie POV•In the midst of two men talking cheerfully, dressed in a familiar blue suit, was Scott. My eyes widened in shock as they landed on him, and my heart thudded hard against my chest.Seven whole years, and I had hoped never to see him again. Yet, here he was. How could he be at this party?I forced my gaze away from his direction and focused on the man and woman in front of me. They gave me a polite smile before excusing themselves, but my mind was far from calm."Mr. Williams, this is a big moment for us. The first ever Lewis design of a Mercedes-Benz," one of the men Scott was speaking with said proudly."Yes, and all I need now is for Mr. Lewis to agree on—" Scott began, but his words faded.I didn’t wait to hear more. My legs moved quickly before I could stop them, weaving through the crowd. I just needed to be anywhere—anywhere else where I wouldn’t have to see Scott. My heart pounded so hard it felt like I had just run a marathon. I hated this. Hated how seeing him aga

SEVEN YEARS LATER•Cassie’s POV•“Cara, sweetheart, where are you?” I called out as I walked up the stairs toward my five-year-old daughter’s room. My eyes drifted to the diamond watch on my wrist, I had less than thirty minutes before I’d be late for my husband’s launch party.“Cara!” I called again, pushing open her door. I stopped by the doorway and smiled. She was standing in front of her mirror, struggling to fix a pink bow on her ponytail.“I’m coming, Mommy. I just need to put this on properly,” she murmured, not realizing I was watching.I walked over and knelt beside her. She turned around, her big gray eyes widening in surprise when she saw me. “Baby, let Mommy help you with that bow,” I said gently. She lowered her gaze but nodded. I carefully took the bow from her tiny hands and lifted the pin, slowly fixing it into her neatly parted ponytail. “See? It’s easy-peasy when Mommy helps.” I kissed her chubby cheek, and she let out a small giggle.“Thank you, Mommy,” she said, t

•Scott POV•I stared at my phone screen, restless, as I dialed Cassie’s number again. The call went straight to voicemail before disconnecting. My chest tightened. She must have blocked me.“Damn it,” I muttered, shoving a hand through my hair. A rough breath left my lips. What have I done? This wasn’t how it was supposed to go. I had spent months planning how to tell her in a way that wouldn’t break her, but it didn’t matter. No matter how I said it, she would still end up hurt. “Scott, is this resort better or should we look for a different place for our honeymoon?” Layla’s voice broke my thoughts. She leaned against me on the couch, her head resting on my shoulder. Her perfume filled my nose, sweet but suffocating.“It’s not bad,” I said without looking. She raised her head, her eyes narrowing. “You didn’t even check to know the one I was talking about. What’s the problem, Scott?” She hissed and rolled her eyes. “Don’t tell me you’re still thinking about Cassie.”Her words stung.

•Cassie POV•Tamara rushed to meet me, quickly shoving her phone into her pocket. Her eyes darted over my face, wide with worry. “How could Scott be this heartless? Jeez, he’s Layla’s fiancé and worst of all, you’ve been planning the wedding for a month now.”My gaze dropped, and tears stung my eyes again. They slipped down my cheeks before I could stop them. I sniffled and wiped my face with the back of my hand. Tamara sat close, her arm brushing mine.“It’s fine, Tammy,” I whispered, though my voice shook. “I’m going to get over him.”She gave me a soft, almost broken smile. “I know you will. And when you’re over him, we’re going to sabotage their wedding.”I sniffled, Tamara’s words pulling a small smile from me before the reality sank in again. When I’d sent her a message earlier, I hadn’t shared much about what happened. Even when she asked, I just told her I’d explain once I got to her place. Thinking back now, I realized I hadn’t paid much attention to her mom’s sympathetic hug
