CHAPTER FIVE: A Shocking Revelation

Jack's Pov.

I alighted from the car that wet night and walk inside.

There's no one in sight so i just ascend the stair to my room. I was halfway to my room when i heard whispers.

I creases my face and stop walking.

The whispers was coming from the kitchen.

I retraced my step and walk down the stair to stood in front of the french door of the kitchen.

I heard the whispers again and i shrug, Laura and Maureen are both female so they're probably catching up for the lost time.

I was about to go into my bedroom when the urgency in Maureen voice halted me.

" No way, you can't tell him. Jack's going to kill me if he ever finds out. " My eyes wide in surprise.

What's must she hiding from me? I ask myself with confused mind.

Laura voice interrupted my thoughts.

" No Maureen, you're living in his house now. One way or the other he's going to find out " i couldn't wait at all to know what's going on.

I pushed open the door and walk in, i stood at the entrance my face held surprise.

" What's going on ? What shouldn't i Know about ? " I asked Laura.

My voice quiet.

Maureen face was white with shock and I'm worried she would pass out.

She has become the shell of herself.

Maureen has been an elegant, graceful lady but now she's just...

" Jack... " Maureen answer instead interrupting my thought.

I look at her for the first time since i walk into the kitchen and I'm kind of confused in her mode of dressing. I have known her to be an elegant  lady who prefer a Short revealing dressing even in the cold weather but now i couldn't understand why she was wearing a  dress that covers all her body. i lean against the wall and cross my arms on my chest waiting for her to continue.

" Jack i..." She stammered.

I fist up my hands and lost my cool.

" Will you say something for God's sake ?" I yell at her and she step back.

Laura was about to intervene when i held up my hand towards her.

" Stay out of it laura " i said to her quietly and turn to Maureen with a fury expression. " I'm listening " i told her in a dead calm voice.

" I'm ... Pregnant " She mutters.

My  face turn white in shock, i stare hard at her and eventually look away.

Did the man use her and sent her packing?.

I ask myself.

No way, this isn't happening. It's probably a bad dream or something.

She can't possibly be pregnant for a man whose father  killed our father.

I turn to her and noticed she was shaking.

" Who owns it ?" I asked calmly.

" It's ... It's Zach's " 

I look at her for a long time trying to understand what she just said.

" What ? " I asked tilting my head in surprise.

" You have the nerve to get pregnant for that ... " I couldn't finish my sentence before signing to calm down.

I turn to Laura.

" Please call Dr sally to come over and check on her. She doesn't look well. " I said and walk out slamming the door behind me.

If for anything, Maureen made a terrible mistake by getting involved with that evil man's son in the first place.

I walk into my room and sat down on the bed, taking off my tie.

I stare into space for a long time before signing deeply.

I stood up after a long while and strip myself off my clothes dropping them on the marble floor before stepping into the bathroom.

I turn on the shower and allow the cold water to splash on my face.

When I'm through i get dressed up in a black T-shirt and a baggy short that fell just above his knee. I was busy drying my hair with a towel when i heard sally, the doctor's voice.

I laid down the towel and walk out to meet the doctor.

" Good evening Sally " i greeted her from behind and she turn around to look at me.

She wore a smart crisp beige linen suit.

She had her dark hair made in a ponytail.

She smile at me and i smiled back.

She stare at me lustfully and i got the answer that she's still under my charm.

Not that i care, i have made it known to her a long ago when she was taking care of my sick father that i feel nothing for her and she has smile wanly and walk out on me that day.

The last day we met was at my dad's funeral. Four years ago such a long time.

I wouldn't have call upon her if she wasn't the family doctor for some years now and if anything, i want to keep my sister pregnancy a secret for now.

" You're still as handsome as before, if not more " She said smiling.

I nodded once but she laughs.

" Still that cold attitude, i wonder who will have your heart with that attitude of yours " she said before smiling politely.

She look pass me and her face creases, i turn to see Maureen. 

" What's going on ? " Sally asked me.

I understand she definitely doesn't know fully well what's going on and i don't want to expose anything... For now.

" Something comes up, i would like you to attend to her " i said to Sally.

I walk away to the kitchen to meet Laura and i stop shortly and turn to Sally.

" Don't ask her any questions, just do your job. If you got any questions i will be in the kitchen to answer it " i said and walk away.

I open the kitchen door and saw Laura cooking.

She stop what she was doing and look up at me.

" Tell me what you Know " i said to her silently.

She look at me and sighed.

" You have been hard on her jack. This isn't how you behave to her four years ago " She said and i stare at her for some seconds before looking away.

" She should have known better than running off with Zach Mike. He's the son of my father's enemy... Remember? . You , yourself Know who he is. Mayor's family and Mike's family are literally enemies. He's the prime suspect of the murderer of my dad  " I replied her with a clenched teeth.

" We are not sure jack . " I gaze at Laura for sometime before titling my head in confusion.

" Sure of what? " I asked wanting to understand.

" That Mike is the killer " 

I Know but i ignore it.

She continues interrupting my thoughts.

" Speak to her jack, be nice to her. There are things she finds out from the Mike's son. " 

I creases my face in surprise. Worried lines appear on my forehead.

" You mean, Zachary. The heir of Claw foot club ? " I asked shock.

" Yes, she said his dad isn't the murderer " 

" Well if he isn't, then who ? " I asked her confused.

She sighed deeply and stare into my eyes.

" I think that remains a mystery for now "
