***AURORA***

The rain was relentless now, washing the dark blood-red lipstick from my mouth and plastering my silver-blonde hair against my neck. I kept my palms flat against the rough, freezing brick wall, my chest heaving as I tried to force air into my collapsing lungs. Everything I'd just done had all been a mask. Now, in the dark, empty VIP alleyway of the Moonspire Hotel, the mask was gone. I was just a ruined girl in a shredded white dress, drowning in the wreckage of my own life.

Suddenly, the air grew violently heavy.

A sudden, suffocating pressure slammed into the alley, so massive and dense that the noise of the city rain seemed to mute instantly. My inner wolf, usually quiet and restrained, let out a terrified whimper and instantly dropped to its knees in my mind.

It wasn't just a generic Alpha aura. It was a dark, ancient, and absolute territorial weight that felt like an iron boot pressing down on the back of my neck.

Through the thick curtain of rain, a midnight-black luxury sedan idled quietly at the mouth of the alley, its headlights cutting through the dark mist. The heavy rear door opened, and a towering, broad-shouldered figure stepped out, bypassing the umbrella-wielding valets entirely.

He wore a flawless, custom-tailored charcoal three-piece suit that clung to an immense, lethal frame. His dark hair was lightly dusted with rain, and as he stepped into the dim glow of the alley's light, his eyes caught the reflection.

Molten silver.

My breath hitched in my throat. Every muscle in my body locked up in terror.

Ronan Blackthorne.

He was a ghost story told to misbehaving pups, the undisputed king of Nocturne City’s underworld, and a man whose vast empire kept the entire Alpha Council under his thumb. But worse than his reputation was his bloodline connection.

He was Cassian’s godfather, so I was really cooked if he was here for revenge against what I just did to his godson.

He closed the distance between us with a single stride. The Council elders I had just insulted inside were powerful men, but compared to Ronan, they were nothing but children playing in a sandbox. He stopped just a few feet away from me, his massive silhouette completely blocking out the streetlights.

He didn't look at me with hatred or pity, like I expected. He evaluated me, his silver eyes tracking the rain dripping down my bare shoulders, the frayed edges of my wedding gown, and the defiant tilt of my chin as I forced myself to straighten up against the wall.

"You have a wild tongue, little one," Ronan murmured. His voice was a deep, resonant baritone that vibrated straight through the concrete beneath my heels. "And a thoroughly reckless streak."

"Are you here to execute me on behalf of your godson, Lord Blackthorne?" I snapped, my voice trembling despite the venom I tried to inject into it. I refused to cower. I had already lost my future, my family's estate, and my reputation. There was nothing left for him to take but debts.

"My godson is an arrogant boy who doesn't know how to value a true asset," Ronan said coldly, his expression entirely unreadable in the shadows. He stepped closer, the rich, intoxicating scent of cedarwood, expensive tobacco, and winter rain completely overwhelming my senses. "He thought he was discarding a broken toy. He didn't expect you to turn his multi-million-dollar alliance gala into a public execution. You played a highly dangerous game in there, Aurora."

Drunk on pure rage, exhaustion, and the lingering sting of the champagne, something inside me snapped. The survival instincts that had kept me submissive for three years vanished, replaced by a self-destructive fire.

I took a step away from the wall, bringing myself directly into his space. I had to crane my neck just to look into his face, but I didn't back down.

"If you think that was dangerous, Lord Blackthorne," I whispered, a dark, breathless laugh escaping my lips, "imagine the look on Cassian's face if I married the most powerful man in the city instead. It would kill his entire bloodline."

The alleyway went dead silent.

I held my breath, realizing the insanity of what had just come out of my mouth. I had just dared a monster to destroy his own family.

Ronan didn't move. He didn't blink. For three agonizing heartbeats, he simply stared down at me, his silver eyes darkening until they looked like a stormy sea. Then, he stepped closer to me, his massive chest nearly brushing against my damp body.

Before I could flinch, his large, scarred hand shot out. His long, powerful fingers wrapped firmly around my chin, forcing my head back. His grip wasn't painful, but it was completely unyielding, an absolute demonstration of dominant possession. His thumb brushed against my lower lip, wiping away the last trace of the smeared red lipstick.

He didn't laugh at my threat, nor did he scold my insolence. He simply leaned down, his hot breath brushing against my ear as his inner Alpha flared, sending a shiver straight down my spine.

"Then let’s see if he survives the shock," Ronan growled, his silver eyes locking onto mine with terrifying intent. "Get in the car, Aurora.”

***AURORA***A blinding ray of morning sunlight pierced through the curtains, hitting my eyelids.I groaned, a wave of intense nausea rolling through my stomach as I shifted against the impossibly soft mattress. Every muscle in my body ached with a deep, heavy soreness. As my mind slowly fought through the brutal haze of a champagne hangover, the vivid memories of the previous night came rushing back. The altar. The live broadcast. The shattering glass at Cassian’s feet. And then...the alleyway. The heavy scent of cedarwood and winter rain. The cold, unyielding press of a massive, scarred hand lifting my chin in the dark.My eyes snapped open. I sat up quickly, my heart hammering against my ribs as I scanned the room. The suite was vast and bathed in a luxury. It wasn't my bedroom at the Vale estate. I looked down at myself, the shredded, ruined white wedding dress was gone, replaced by an oversized black bathrobe that swallowed my frame. On my left hand, weighing down my ring finger,

***AURORA***The door of the luxury sedan clicked shut with a dull thud, completely cutting off the roar of the downpour.Inside, the space was vast, dark, and suffocatingly quiet. The scent of rich leather, expensive tobacco, and Ronan’s overpowering Alpha pheromones filled the enclosed cabin, settling over my skin. I sat frozen against the leather seat, my damp white dress clinging miserably to my thighs. My hands were shaking, but I clamped them tightly in my lap, refusing to let the man sitting across from me see a single trace of weakness.Ronan didn't look at me. He sat in total, unreadable silence as the car glided smoothly away from the hotel. The blue light of the dashboard illuminated his sharp profile; the hard, chiseled line of his jaw, the slight break in his nose from some long-forgotten violence, and the massive breadth of his shoulders beneath his charcoal vest. He had tossed his wet suit jacket onto the empty middle seat, rolling up his shirtsleeves to reveal thick, h

***AURORA***The tires suddenly screeched as Ivy slammed on the brakes, bringing us to a sudden halt directly in front of the Moonspire Hotel. The luxury venue was crawling with life. Valets in pressed uniforms scurried around fleet after fleet of black sports cars and high-end SUVs, shielding wealthy pack members beneath massive golf umbrellas. Paparazzi flashes exploded like a storm near the grand glass canopy, throwing blinding white light over the heavy rain."Aurora, wait," Ivy pleaded, her hand shooting across the center console to clamp firmly around my wrist. Her eyes were wide, constantly scanning the chaotic entrance. "Look at the sheer amount of press out there. The moment you step out of this car, they are going to tear you to shreds. They are waiting for a sobbing, broken woman. Don't give them the satisfaction.""They aren't getting a sobbing woman," I said, my voice eerily steady.I detached her fingers from my wrist with gentle but unyielding strength. Turning to the v

***AURORA***"Just a touch more gloss on the lower lip, Miss Vale, and you will be absolutely perfect."The makeup artist smiled warmly, stepping back to admire her work. She picked up a large, fluffy brush and lightly dusted a shimmering setting powder over my collarbones. "I have worked with a dozen brides this season, but you? You are a true classical Luna. The Mooncroft pack is incredibly lucky.""Thank you, Maria," I replied, offering her a soft smile through the mirror.Every detail in the cathedral bridal suite was immaculate. The room smelled of fresh white roses and expensive French perfume. Strands of my long silver-blonde hair had been pinned up in an elegant twist, leaving a few soft curls to frame my face.I looked exactly like the woman I had spent three long years training to be.After my father died and my mother fell into a permanent coma, our old, respected Vale name was the only currency I had left. I had used that name to clean up Cassian's public image, soften his
