Jacob

The beaming lights on the second floor flickered angrily as I stared down on my bed. My textbook was drenched in water and dropped on my bed. The pages were bloated. Ruined.

Someone had taken their time to scrawled the word "charity kid" on the wall.

My hand was shaking as I reached for the wet book. The moment I tried to pick it up, the door flung open behind me.

"Trouble, dear cousin?"

Kenny's voice tinged with what sounded like concern but I knew better. I didn't need to turn to know Kenny was silently dying of cheer joy over my little predicament.

"I'm fine Kenny" I managed to mutter as I picked up the drenched book. Water dripped all over my clothes and the floor.

Kenny stepped behind me, stretching his neck a little. "Damn Couz, they really got you good this time huh?"

"Do you know who did this, Kenny?"

"I think they left you a note," Kenny said, pointing at a piece of paper in the tousled sheets.

The moment Kenny walked out the door laughing, I picked up the semi wet paper and unfolded it with trembling hands.

"Meet me at my locker before first period. Don't be later. D.C."

It was only a few minutes before first period so I picked up my bag and ran.

Daniel's locker was at the end of the hallway. It was surprisingly the only locker without stickers or photos. It was spotless. His expensive cologne filled the hallway, as usual.

I got to the end of the hall, almost out of breath.

Daniel was leaning calmly on the locker, sipping on his coffee from a paper cup that looked absolutely out of place in his rough hands.

"You're late, scholarship boy," he said without lifting up his face to look at me.

"I had to clean up a mess someone was kind enough to make in my room," I said as I lifted the drenched book, water still dripping on the marble floor.

Daniel finally glanced at me, but very quickly, his eyes flickering with amusement. "I thought kids like you don't mind the extra work."

He reached into his pocket, brought out some money. "Go get me a pen at the store. Lost mine this morning."

"No! That wasn't part our deal. I'm not your little errand boy."

"Deal?. Why would I make a deal with someone like you?" Daniel's laugh was short and cruel. He stepped closer, until his head was touching mine and the heat from his body radiating through his uniform.

"Just because I talk you doesn't mean we're friends. You do as I say and keep your spot at the school." Daniel said, shoving the money into my palm hard enough, that I almost fell. "Don't make me wait, pretty boy," he said with a small slap on my cheek.

By the weekend, I had written all of Daniel's homework, delivered coffees and everything Daniel would complain that I'm trying to murder him by getting him tasteless coffees.

He would ruin my shirt or shoe with the coffee whenever he didn't feel like drinking it.

I would always let Daniel copy whenever we had a quiz and Daniel would always return the Favour by kicking my feet under the table for being too slow.

Daniel's eyes would always darken whenever he humiliated me. Something could almost mistake the expression for 'interest.'

I finally snapped and decided to corner Daniel in the Spanish classroom.

"We had a deal," I hissed. "You said you'd tell me what the fake blood on my locker had to do with Mr. Richard."

Daniel froze, and for a split second, I saw something flash across his face—something fresh and raw, and then it was suddenly replaced with that familiar expression.

"So you question me now too, pretty boy." He stepped forward until my back hit the cold wall.

His fingers gently caressed my face. "You're just the help."

Daniel walked past me as the bell rang, but not before muttering, "Be in my room by eight tonight and bring my homework."

Later that night, as I lay in bed staring mindlessly at the ceiling, my cell phone buzzed. I picked it up. A text from an unknown number. My hand hovered over the notification, my mind contemplating whether to open it or not.

I finally opened it and loaded the image.

A gasp escaped me.

It was a photo of me sleeping, in my dorm. My hand was curled under my chin like a baby and my mouth, was slightly open.

Whoever took the photo must have been in the room. This was a violation and I wouldn't stand for it.

My phone buzzed again. It was a message.

"You look so cute when you sleep."

I flew from the bed. My body was cold and trembling. My eyes wandered across the room, out the window, the closet, and even the bathroom.

I wanted to make sure no creep was hiding in my room.

My hands flew across the screen. "Who are you?"

A reply came instantly. "You left your window open. I can't wait to see you tonight."

"See me tonight. What does that even mean."

I knew very well, that Daniel loved to torment me but he would never go this low. Besides, it hadn't been that long since I left his room.

Could it be one of Daniel’s dumb stupid friends. They always think it’s fun playing with anyone who they framed weak.

And Kenny. One thing Kenny loved more than his pretty face and his expensive shoes and perfumes, was his beauty sleep. He would never sacrifice it for anyone or anything.

Not even for tormenting me. The only thing that could wake him from his sleep would be a world war three or a zombie apocalypse, but with the way he could sleep through a storm. I even doubt that would have any impact.

So who could this be and what exactly do they want from me?

I stood there, frozen as it dawned on me that someone was not just watching me. They were entering my room and they could even be here, tonight.

  • Jacob Hale: Enemy’s Secret Toy   Chapter 50

DanielThere was this persistent ache in my chest when I woke up. It could be from the weight of everything that happened in the last few days. The hiding, lying to Sarah… and getting back with Jake after everything. The pain and the thoughts pressed down on me as I lay on the bed, my eyes focusing on the ceiling of my room. The morning lights flicked through the fabric in the window, casting gold lines on the walls. It was a new day. Another day to be in school, see those familiar faces… see Jake’s face.Rolled to the other side of the bed, reaching for my phone on the nightstand. Notifications light up my phone. A message from Sarah… and my mom, but nothing from Jacob. Not that I was expecting anything. Things between us had been more complicated, but I thought that forgiving him would change things a bit. Ever since Mr Richard got in the picture, it’d been from one fight to another. I’d thought of breaking off the contract if that would make him happy, but since the whole issue

Classmate: WillThe sound of my heart beating hammered loudly in my ears when I suddenly saw Jake burst into the room. His face was flushed with something I hadn’t seen before. Something more interesting than the usual composure I’d always seen. It seemed like fear… uncertainty. Maybe desperation. I knew that look too well. Seen it before. The difference was, it wasn’t directed at me back then. I was nothing more than a passing shadow, a nameless classmate whose note held no value. He’d tossed it inside his bag, but never acted on it. He didn’t even spare me a second glance since then. I bet he didn’t even remember. But now… no, he was here, in the same room as me, breathing the same thick air that suddenly felt suffocating. Close enough that if I reached out, if I tried just a little, I could… No. It was too soon, and doing anything now could mess up everything.I’ve had so much patience until now. Just a little more wouldn’t kill me.I knew why he was there; the rumors about Dan

JacobI should've felt relieved. After everything I did. The lies, the sneaking around, and the betrayals, Daniel was still willing to continue with the contract. But did I? Hell no. I didn’t feel a single relief. The only thing I felt was fear, like everything would come crashing down right in front of me any second now. Daniel didn’t rip our contract to shreds. But he should have, then I wouldn’t feel like a total crap of a human being. After everything? After my epic fail? He could've, he should've. The terms were crystal clear. No other guy, as long as the contract was valid, no drama. And what did I do? I broke every single rule. And yet, he let it slide. Or maybe he pretended. It didn’t matter what it was, really. The most important thing was that Daniel still wanted to talk to me… touch me. Every time I tried to make amends, to apologize for my mistake again, he’d shut me down with a casual wave.It could be fake even though it didn’t look that way. It looked and felt l

SarahThe penthouse located in the heart of New York City had a faint scent of expensive bourbon and a heavy aura of regret.Sitting on the edge of the bed, I pulled my dress over my head as my phone buzzed with a message. It was from the last person I’d expected. Daniel’s teacher from school.Mr. Richard. The man who was seated next to me, whose name was either Aiden or Andrew, mumbled something about getting dinner, but I was already responding to the text. The message was short but very concerning. "Your brother is driving off the edge."I knew what the whole thing was about. Daniel had screwed up again. But it had never been a problem, because Daniel’s screw ups was always bullying, which wasn’t serious and I seriously think he did that for attention. My brother had never been one to cause trouble unless it was a cry for help. Just like when our parents… Dad especially sent him to that awful boarding school. He never wanted to go. To be away from Mom… from me, but Dad had said

RichardI couldn't help but obsess over him.Jacob.It wasn’t love or anything like it. It was something much more stronger than love. The memory of his lips on mine, how they'd been hesitant at first, then greedy, as though he'd been yearning for the taste of my lips. The way his chest had risen and fallen rapidly as my fingers explored the curves of his body beneath his shirt, tracing the sharp ridges of his hipbones with an hungry touch. The way his gaze had burned when I'd whispered against his mouth, “I want you."And then Daniel had pushed open the door.Just great.I hadn't planned it, but the moment Daniel's shadow fell inside the room, I'd seized the opportunity. Drawn Jacob closer, deepened our kiss until it was seamy, until there could be no doubt of our sins.It felt good that he witnessed it. Felt the sting of betrayal.Because Jacob wasn't truly his.And after that, all that show, I was sure Daniel would concede defeat. But then…The next morning, I’d come early to c

  • Jacob Hale: Enemy’s Secret Toy   Chapter 45

DanielCouldn’t sleep or do anything really. Even with everything that had happened these past few weeks. Jacob was betraying me every chance he got. Being locked up in a room with that fucker, and doing God knows what. He was still all I could think about. I’d sworn never to forgive him… to never speak to him again, but somehow my stupid heart always found a way to betray me. It was almost midnight when I decided to text him.“Well, fuck it,” I said to myself. “It’s not like what we had was real or anything.”So why end it over something so insignificant as this? I would keep seeing Jacob until graduation, and then we would both go our separate ways after that. That was the plan. Always had been and it was a perfect plan, and I’d be damned if I let someone like Richard ruin it. The hallway outside Jake’s dorm was disturbingly quiet. Like the whole place was holding its breath, just waiting to see if I’d come close and what I’d do. And I did.My hand hovered over the door, t

  • Jacob Hale: Enemy’s Secret Toy   Chapter 44

JacobI found Jacob in his room, dancing to the music that was playing loudly on his phone. He looked like he didn’t give a damn care in the world. It was also the first time I’d seen him like this. Which meant this was bad. It was all levels bad, and it was all my fault. I stood in the doorway, watching him. Scared to go in. Terrified to call out to him… to touch him. This was the biggest mess up in all histories of… mess ups and I didn’t know what to do. Or how to fix it. Managed to summon some courage to walk in. “Hey,” I said, tapping him on his back, and when he turned to look at me, my heart almost stopped.“He..hey. Is it my turn now, pretty boy?”What? What the fuck did he mean by that? “Can we talk… please?” Picked up his phone from the bed and paused the music. “Damn Jacob. What the fuck do you want from me man.” He snorted. “You can go be with Mr Richard… or whoever else you decide to cheat on me with.”My face was shades of confusion. ‘Cheat?’ Wouldn’t it be only

  • Jacob Hale: Enemy’s Secret Toy   Chapter 43

JacobDaniel looked at me like I had just betrayed everything we had, when Mr. Richard came strutting back into his room. His body tensed, like he’s got the weight of the world on his shoulders, but determined to hide it away in his perfectly ironed shirt. The air suddenly became thick and awkward… again. Unspoken words hung in the air, eyes rolling at each other. He shot Daniel a quick glance, like he was checking to see if the coast was clear. Then he turned and said to me, "We need to talk. Alone, if you don’t mind."Daniel looked at me, shaking his head, “No.”His face suddenly went all pale when I spoke. “Just a few minutes.”Didn’t expect him to give his permission or understand, but the look on his face broke my heart. He looked like he'd seen a ghost or something. He was playing with the bedsheets, not looking at either of us, but I knew he was fuming inside like a ball of fire.I felt like crap already. I knew I shouldn't have to break my promise, but Richard has this way

  • Jacob Hale: Enemy’s Secret Toy   Chapter 42

Jacob“Mr Richard!” Our voice echoed in unison. “You weren’t in your room, Jacob.” Mr Jacob said, eyes glancing from me to Jacob. “It would be really nice if you could learn how to knock… or they didn’t teach you that in college?” Daniel snarled at him. But Mr Richard ignored him. His eyes still scanning the room. Daniel's fingers were still lightly around my neck, just tight enough to make it a little hard to breathe… or even move. But I guess that was his plan. He knew he had me under his control, and there was no way for me to escape or run to Mr Richard. Before Mr Richard interrupted our little game. Daniel had one hand propped up on the headboard of the bed and was kind of smiling down at me after I promised to stay away from my favorite teacher. "Say it again," he muttered, his voice all low and threatening, but in a fun way, I suppose. With Daniel, sometimes you never know."Make me," I shot back, smiling up at him.He squeezed just a bit more, but only for a quick secon
