Jacqueline’s POV

I sat down at the back of the car, with my eyes at the window. I watched the buildings and people we had driven past. I moved away from the door and leant against the soft seat. I turned to the side and glanced at the bodyguard, who was sat close to me.

Though he sat at a distance, but being close to him left like torture. A complete nightmare. I diverted my gaze to the window again. My eyes slowly began being teary. The thought of being close to that nut job, who calls himself my husband, frightened me even more.

I had no thoughts of getting married, especially not to him. A simple task has turned to an everlasting nightmare. Oh, great! I became someone’s wife within an hour. An hour! If I could turn the hands of time, I would’ve stayed home and preferred being insulted by my landlord again.

The car drove on a bump, which made me to jerk and hit my head on the headrest of the driver’s seat.

“Ow!” I moaned in pain, as I rubbed my temple with my fingers.

I turned to my side and caught the bodyguard looking at me. His facial expression was blank. He let out a sigh and shook his head. I wonder what he could be thinking of. The driver sounded the horn as we pulled up in front of a wrought gate.

The gate wasn’t that tall but overshadowed the building from the outside. Soon, it began to wheel open. The gate-keeper stood at the side, holding a remote. The driver switched gear and drove in. He drove towards the garage and parked right at the entrance.

The bodyguard seated beside me got out of the car. I watched him as he walked over to the other side and stood at the door. He pulled it open.

“Get out of the car!” He said coolly.

I sluggishly got out. I turned my head around and flashed a glance at the gate. It was still open. Maybe I could run away and finally be free from this mess. Maybe I could convince them that this is all a big mistake and I was misunderstood as someone else.

“Mrs Northman!”

The bodyguard’s voice snapped me out of the trance. I looked at him. He stared at the gate for awhile and signalled the gate-keeper to close it. I turned my head around again, watching the gate close automatically. There goes my escape plan.

“Follow me.” He said firmly.

If I had meant Rex, I would’ve mistaken for the boss. Both arrogant and cold people. I let him walked a few steps ahead of me while I walked behind him. He rang the doorbell and waited for someone to answer. I stood at the door and admired the building. It was a duplex, though some of the walls were glass.

The door creaked open and a maid stood close to it. She held it open and waited for us to enter. We entered and she closed the door behind us. The bodyguard stood and scowled at her.

“Have you lost your manners?” He asked her.

She furrowed her brow confusingly.

“That’s the boss’ wife.” He introduced me to her.

She looked at me. She scanned me from head to toe and guffawed. Usually, I would normally be upset but I’m already used to this. I like my body and clearly wouldn’t change because of peoples’ opinions. I rolled my eyes.

“Are you done?” The bodyguard said plainly.

The maid managed to control herself and replied in a nod.

“Show her to her room.” He ordered.

The maid glanced at me and sniggered. How many self-centred people live here? Isn’t there a normal person in this house? A normal and slightly kind person. Is it too early to request for a divorce?

I followed the maid. Though, I was a few stairs behind her. I had my eyes on the floor as I climbed up. I could partially see the living room, if that was it. We got to the landing. She walked towards a door and pulled it open. She stood at the entrance.

I stalled for a minute and walked in. It was dark, though the corridor’s light partially reflected in.

“It’s dark in here.” I said plainly.

“You’ve got hands. Turn on the lights yourself.” She scoffed.

Did she just—? I furrowed my brow surprisingly. I clenched my fist and bit my lower lip. I groped the wall, looking for the switch. I stumbled on a wooden shelf and knocked down something. It landed on something.

“Be careful not to break anything.” She replied.

It would have been a lot better if she had just helped. She is already used to being here. I finally found the switch and turned on the lights. The room looked a lot bigger and better than in the dark.

“I don’t want to be too nosy but…” She said.

I looked at her. She had a smug smile on her face. It was obvious what she was about to say would only piss me off.

“…you should try going to the gym. Maybe, lose a few pounds or more. That way, my boss will find you attractive. Just like his ex-fiancée, Samantha. I still don’t know why they broke up but she would’ve definitely been in the best position to be his wife.”

I wanted to give her a piece of my mind but a part of me held me back. She sniggered as she left the door. I quickly walked towards it and closed it. I turned the key in the keyhole until it was locked.

My eyes leaked as I let go of the key. Being forcefully married wasn’t enough, now I’m being insulted by some maid because of my weight. I never wanted this. Hasn’t life been cruel enough? First my mum left me, Dad died and I was forced to stay in an orphanage throughout my childhood. No one came to claim me, not even to adopt as theirs.

~Jacqueline’s POV~I clutched on to the seatbelt as Rex drove into the compound. He parked his car at the entrance of the garage. My blood suddenly turned cold as the engine stopped. Goose pimples were visible on my arms. I swallowed. Hell; I had returned there with more complications than when I had first arrived. He flashed a glance at me as he unfastened his seatbelt. He looked away and opened the driver’s door. He got out of the car and banged the door. The bang made my heart race. He was angry, I could tell. I watched him through the windscreen as he walked over to the other side. He pulled my door open.“Come out.” He said icily, holding the door open.I unfastened my seatbelt. I glanced at him. Our eyes met and he looked away immediately. I let out a sigh and got out of the car. I banged the door and locked the car. He walked ahead of me while I followed at a distance. He rang the doorbell and waited for someone to answer. The door opened.“Boss,—.” Cameron said as he opened t

8~Rex’s POV~I made a right turn and drove straight. I drove into the police station and pulled over at the car park. I turned off the ignition and unstrapped the seatbelt. I opened the door and got out to the car. I looked at the building opposite the car park.My phone bleeped. I put my hand in the pocket of my trousers and took it out. The time-out deactivated and saw a notification on the lock screen. It was a text from my lawyer.[I’m inside with the Inspector and your wife. Where are you?]I read it through the notification bar and left it as unread. I discarded my phone back into my pocket and let out a sigh. I walked towards the station. I pulled the door open and almost bumped into an officer.“Watch where you going!” He said coolly. He held an offender by the arm and pulled him. I had gaze at the two for awhile and got the distracted. Then it hit. I went inside. I scanned the reception. Officers on their feet, some in uniform while some in their casual. Some offenders sat

  • Jacqueline’s Dilemma: Chosen By The Tycoon   Chapter 7

Jacqueline’s POVIt has been a week since I got married and nothing has happened. No calls, no posters of a missing person, nothing. It almost feels like I have been easily forgotten. To top it all, I don’t remember where my phone is. How can I call for help?I am certain Bianca would be worried about me and probably be looking for me. She is the only I count on. I walked towards the window and looked through it. His bodyguards were outside, two though. Argh. I have to get out of here somehow. I left the window and paced up and down beside the bed. I caught a glimpse of the handle turning and stood still. It pulled open and that maid came in. She hung her head and avoided eye contact.“Good morning, Mrs. Northman.”Huh? That was strange. Usually, I would have been greeted with rudeness or a sarcastic remark but I didn’t get either of those. “Breakfast is ready. Would you like to be served in your room or downstairs at the table?” She asked, raising her head.I furrowed my brow surp

~Jacqueline’s POV~ Daisy held the glass in her hand and swirled the juice in it. She slowly drank it until it finished. I watched her while holding my glass. I raised the glass to my mouth and took a sip out of it. The boys had finished theirs as well as the biscuits they were given. Unlike my drink and every others’, Daisy had added a shot of tequila to hers. She didn’t want to create a bad impression for her sons. The twins sat tiredly on the chair, swinging their legs back and forth. I traced the mouth of the glass idly with my finger. “Jackie!” I raised my head and glanced at Daisy. I smiled faintly. “How many children do you and Rex want to have?” She asked playfully. Children? For him? I can’t see myself letting him kiss me not to talk of carrying his child. “Well, we—.” I mumbled, avoiding eye contact. “Uncle Rex.” Michael said happily. I turned to the side and saw him. He had his eyes on his phone. He had two boutique bags in the other hand. He looked away f

  • Jacqueline’s Dilemma: Chosen By The Tycoon   Chapter 5

Rex’s POVI had sat down in my office, with my phone in my hand. It would’ve been easier to watch them closely but my brother chose the wrong to call for an urgent meeting at the company. The video bluffed. Ugh! This too? How else am I supposed to listen to their conversation now? I flashed a glance at the door and noticed the handle turning. I activated my phone’s time-out and left it on my desk. I leant my back against chair and turn the chair side by side at intervals. The door pulled open. The last person I wanted to see, my brother. He scanned the office from the door before he walked in.“For moment, I thought I would see a lady doing the buttons of her shirt like I always do meet them.” He said ironically as he partially closed the door behind him. He walked towards the desk.“You guessed wrong, Alex.” I muttered.Alex hummed and had his hands in his pockets. He gazed at my desk. I furrowed my brow confusingly. What was he up to?“Mum told me you got married.” He said, after s

  • Jacqueline’s Dilemma: Chosen By The Tycoon   Chapter 4

Jacqueline’s POVSplash!I jerked up from the bed. I gasped for air. What was that—? I heard laughter and looked forward. The maid had a bucket in her hand and smiled at me smugly. “Good morning, Ma’am!” She said mockingly.I glanced at the empty bucket and my drenched clothes. I removed the duvet and let out a sigh. I stood on my feet and tried to wrinkle some of the water out of my top. “Breakfast is ready.” She said as she walked towards the door. She pulled it open and stopped.“You know, it would be best if you skipped breakfast this morning. You might even gain more weight.” She sniggered and left the room. She closed the door behind her. Great! That was one way to ruin the day. I scanned the room and had my eyes on the window. I walked towards it and opened the one of the panes. Behind the house was a swimming pool, close to an outdoor bar. The water rippled as the breeze blew and glinted as the rays of the sun reflected on it. The compound looked much bigger from here than
