I pull out my mobile and send a text to Harlow.

Me: So, my room is next to jerk arse, Jax. He’s so intense all the time.

Harlow: Just keep your head down, do what they say and you’ll be out of there in no time. What the hell were you thinking going to that bar???

Three question marks, she must be annoyed.

Me: I didn’t know bikers run it, I just saw a bar and followed my Gin nose. In case you hadn’t noticed, I’ve been through a lot in the last few days! Do you think I’m allowed to have visi

  • Jax - Saved by the Biker President   Chapter Twenty-One

It is officially the longest day of my life. Everywhere I turn I get flashes of Sophia. It’s like a slow torture with the heat making my day just that little bit more gruelling. “Jax there’s a phone call for you,” she smiles, her head popping out of the office door. I make my way up and stop dead in the doorway. The once messed up office is spotless. All the piles of paperwork are gone. I can actually see my desk. “Wow, you’ve been busy,” I mutter, making my way around to my chair and sitting at the desk. She gives a satisfied smile. I pick up the telephone and begin chatting about some rare car parts for a Ferrari that a customer needs. Sophia stands to the left of me and leans over the desk to grab a folder of receipts. I breathe in her vanilla scent and almost groan. She remainsto my left, standing way too close to me, searching through the receipts. Tank appears in the doorway. “Babe, I’ve got to pick up a break down, you wanna come?” he asks her. She shakes her head. “I’m go

He breaks the kiss before it’s really begun and holds me at arm’s length, “Shit, sorry, I wasn’t hitting on you.” I chew nervously on my lower lip, I want to say I hated that kiss, but I didn’t. I give my head a shake. What the fuck am I doing, sleeping with his president, then kissing him right after he told me about the woman he loved. I push to stand. “Sorry I shouldn’t have let that happen.” Tank grabs a hold of my hand and turns me to face him. Even with him sitting, his head still almost reaches my chest. “We are gonna happen, Sophia, I just want it to be the right time for both of us.” He tugs my hand gently so that I am stood between his open legs and he places a large hand on my cheek, staring intently into my eyes. He’s different from Jax, gentler. He presses his lips against mine once more, our lips locked in a lingering kiss. He stands without breaking the kiss and runs his fingers through my hair, gripping it gently at the roots and angling my head so that he can dee

By the time I get to Pete’s I’m shaking with nerves. Every rumble of a motorcycle had me practically hiding behind parked cars. The house is in darkness and I breathe a sigh of relief. Once inside, I make my way to the basement. I can put them back exactly where I found them and get out of here before anyone’s noticed. I get to the bottom of the cold stone steps and feel around for the light switch. It flickers as it comes on and I scan the messy room. It’s clear someone’s already been here looking for the drugs because everything is a mess with drawers pulled out and contents tipped all over the ground. I take out the drugs and place them amongst the mess. Then I rush back up the stairs, crashing into a hard body. I look up into Jax’s furious eyes. His arms are folded over his chest and his jaw is clenched tightly. “I told you to stay put.” “I saw an easy solution, what was the point in having a big chat when I could just…” “I told you to stay put,” he roars, causing me to flinc

My heart slams hard in my chest as adrenaline is released into my body and I slowly uncover my head. “I thought . . . I just expected . . .” “I’d never fucking hit you, rabbit. I don’t beat on women.” He holds out a hand and I hesitantly place mine in it. He helps me to my feet. “Look, I don’t think you’re a risk to the club. Maybe you should go, staying here isn’t working out.” His words surprise me. They’re not what I expected and now a million thoughts race through my mind, my first being where the fuck will I go. I’d kinda gotten used to the idea of staying here. “I have nowhere to go,” I mutter, frowning. Jax shrugs, turning his back and walking over to his desk. “You’ll find somewhere. I’m sure you have a friend that’ll put you up for a few nights until you’re sorted. Maybe Harlow? And I can ask around my nightclubs to see if there’s any bar work?” When he looks back over to me, his eyes are empty, like he’s bored of seeing me and it sends an instant pain to my heart. The

Sophia “What’s up with your miserable face?” asks Harlow, placing a drink in front of me. I’d practised a bit more behind the bar after Jax left with Candy, but then Creep told me to chill for the rest of the night. I think my miserable face was putting the guys off. “I had sex today,” I say, unable to keep from sounding so glum about it. Harlow gasps in surprise. “With Jax,” I add. Her eyes widen and she leans closer. “I thought he scared the shit outta you?” she hisses. “Well he does, but things just happened really quick. Anyway, he instantly regretted it and basically told me to keep it quiet,” I say miserably. “He’s ashamed.” She rolls her eyes. “What did you expect? A lifelong commitment from the president of the Dark Souls? Take it as a win, Sophia, he’s hot, you’re both single and it’s a bit of fun. God knows you need it in your life after everything.” “You didn’t see the way he looked at me. I’ve never felt so . . . used.” I shudder as I picture Jax’s eyes and the look

I stare after her, watching through the window in the door, as she walks across the clubhouse to the bar. Tank is seated there and he turns as she approaches. He’s assessing her, occasionally glancing at the office like he’s expecting me to run out after her. Maybe he’s worked out what we just did. I groan, hating that I’ve screwed him over. I grab the keys to my bike and pull on my leather kutte. I need to get out of here and clear my head. I feel Sophia’s eyes follow me as I sweep through the club house and then I hear Candy’s heels click after me. “Jax, Jax,” she shouts, until I stop and turn to face her. “Fancy company?” I glance at Sophia who’s watching the exchange between us. An ache builds in my chest at what I’m about to do. I give a slight nod, then force myself to hold out my hand until she takes it with a huge grin on her face. Sophia turns her back, busying herself behind the bar, and I lead Candy out to my bike. I don’t want company. I don’t want to be around anoth
