After taking care of everything, Raina stayed by Gale's side a while longer to make sure he was stable. Only then did she go to call Leif upstairs.

Leif's expression was grim, but he didn’t say anything. He stepped up the stairs, one foot at a time. The moment he reached the top, his eyes fell on the white bandage wrapped around Raina’s left hand.

He stared at her hand. Though his face didn’t change much, Raina suddenly had the feeling—maybe it was just her imagination—but it seemed like… he was really, really upset.

After a long moment, Leif spoke, his voice calm but heavy:

“What happened to your hand?”

Raina hadn’t thought much of the injury herself. When he asked, she instinctively hid her hand behind her back and replied nonchalantly, “It’s nothing. I just accidentally cut myself earlier. I’ve already treated it, it’s fine. Let’s—”

But before she could finish, she stopped abruptly—because the look on Leif’s face made her flinch. She instinctively took a small step back, unable to

The others didn’t know why Briar had left only these few people behind, but as always, they obeyed without question. As soon as Briar gave the order, the rest quickly dispersed. As the crowd streamed away like a receding tide, Briar asked, “Who prepared the ginger soup last night?”Though the remaining people all wore expressionless masks, their confusion and puzzlement were evident beneath them. One person stepped forward and said, “Master, it was me.”Briar gave a slight nod. “Very well. You may leave.”The person hesitated for a moment, still dazed, but obeyed the order and departed. That left four people, each still standing in the same spot as before.Briar glanced at them and asked in a sharp voice, “Does anyone wish to confess that it was you who put something in the ginger soup last night?”The shadow guards were instantly dumbfounded. After a brief silence, one person lifted his chin and asked, “Master, are you suspecting us?”That question was practically a challenge. The sh

His serious apology left Raina completely at a loss for words.Fortunately, Leif didn’t seem to expect her to respond. But when she noticed him looking back, she quickly turned her gaze away. She didn’t dare meet his eyes, though she couldn’t resist wanting to know what expression he was wearing. The whole thing was driving her nuts. But to Leif, her strange behavior meant something else entirely. While wrapping her arm in gauze, he suddenly asked in a low voice, “Does it hurt a lot?”“Ah—” Raina blurted out. “It’s okay. Not that bad… Uh, Mr. Vexley, are you alright?”Whether it was the terrifying man from business rumors or the man she had been around these past few days, Leif

Raina pressed her fingers to her forehead, momentarily speechless. What was wrong with this kid? Why couldn’t he just let it go? She had already tried so hard to change the subject, and yet he still insisted on dragging it back. How could Leif have such a blockheaded subordinate? At that moment, Leif finally couldn’t help but speak up. He said, “It was me.”Rael: “…”Ha. Men!Just as he was about to say something, a loud bang rang out behind them. All three instinctively turned—only to see that Gale had somehow fallen from his chair. His face had gone deathly pale, and his small hands were clutching his throat tightly, as if he were choking—or worse, trying to strangle himself. The veins in his arms were bulging, and his bloodshot eyes were filled with pain and terror.Raina sprang into action. She yanked her bag open and pulled out a small emergency kit, her voice sharp and urgent:“Something’s wrong—his Velvet Mercy symptoms are flaring up!”But… this didn’t make sense.Gale had bee

Raina quickly lowered her head and picked up her spoon again. The dark cloud that had hung over her earlier miraculously lifted. She laughed, “Oh, I’m eating—hahaha…”She’d always been like this. No matter how big the troubles, no matter how upset she was, once food appeared, her mood would instantly brighten. Even though doubts and problems kept piling up, right now, her heart felt surprisingly light.Leif lowered his eyes slightly, his voice still soft: “No talking while eating.”Raina swallowed a snowy white wonton in one bite, smiling: “No talking while eating? We’re sitting together, eating. How boring would it be if nobody said a word? Come on, Mr. Vexley, talk to me…”She said it on purpose. After spending a few days around him, Raina found Leif really interesting. She liked teasing him every now and then—it was too much fun. So when he said no talking while eating, she deliberately pushed him to talk to her. Most of the time, it was just for her own amusement, and Leif didn’t

Raina shook her head firmly. “I want to do it myself.”Leif didn’t insist and went to get some hot water. Raina carefully cleaned the blood off Mr. Shaw little by little. When she finished, she realized that Mr. Shaw wasn’t actually very old, but his face was now deathly pale.Leif stayed quietly by her side, not intervening. When she was done, he asked, “Should I have someone move him somewhere to rest?”Once someone’s dead, that’s it.Raina still clutched the blood-stained towel, now half-red, and sank to the floor. Dust and lime powder covered her clothes, but she didn’t care. Staring at Mr. Shaw’s face, her voice hoarse, she said, “Alright… wait—”She suddenly realized something. She hadn’t noticed before, but there was something in Mr. Shaw’s mouth!Leif asked, “What is it?”Raina stood up quickly, dropping the bloodied towel, and pointed at Mr. Shaw’s mouth. “There’s something in his mouth!”Without hesitation, she crouched down to retrieve it.At that moment, a hand with clearl
