"Cough cough… you…"
The boy stared at Sandhya while trembling in anger. The other boys who were with him were also terrified after witnessing their leader get defeated by an unknown girl.
The boy who was laying on the floor looked towards his subordinates for support saw them retreat a few steps and then run away. He was furious. He shouted, "You damn losers trying to ditch your leader? Just wait… you…"
"You done?"
He turned his head towards the voice and saw the girl standing there without the care of anything.
"You…"
Before he could finish an immense pressure engulfed him. As a demon beast is looking at him with cold hungry eyes. Then he looked at those dark eyes which were staring back at him. He felt like it's trying to devour him. He had never felt anything like that. He cowered backwards and ran away.
It was a good thing that the compound of the library was a less crowded area. So, there weren't many people. Those who were present didn't notice anything. Or else it could have been a piece of big news in the local newspaper for the next day.
Lola who was watching all of this quietly from a faraway place silently chuckled.
"Not bad. Didn't expect her to be able to frighten a person just by her mere gaze. What will happen after she awakens power?"
Then a thought crossed her mind.
"I think today is not a bad day for testing that out. I should take her there after this."
…
"Are you all right?"
Sandhya asked the little girl. The girl nodded and bowed to show her gratitude and ran away.
Sandhya was confounded. Is she looking that scary? She sighed and finally went to the library for which she was there. After she borrowed and returned the needed books, she went back to Lola.
"Let's go."
"Sandhya wait…"
She faced Lola and asked, "Yes?"
"Before we go home, how about you go to a place with me? I want to run a little test."
Sandhya was surprised. The time for the test hasn't arrived yet so what does she want to test?
In these four months, after Serena leaves her with Lola, she is giving her lessons on how to channel her magical energy through objects. Serena had experienced how Sandhya can transfer and channel her magic through objects. It's a technique which is for beginners and one of the fundamentals in the foundation of magic. Serena had handed the responsibility of the foundation of Sandhya's magic to Lola, who is performing this responsibility way too well.
She answered, "Okay."
From there they headed towards a small shrine. The environment of that place was good. After stepping into that place, the disturbance due to the earlier incident vanished and Sandhya felt calm. The air around the shrine was relatively fresher while covered with green trees.
Lola took Sandhya to a small hill behind the shrine. After walking some distance to upward they found a small open space on which there was a big rock on which a sword was stuck in it, its handle facing heavenwards.
Lola went up the rock and faced the sword.
"Sandhya, this is the holy sword of this shrine and also one of the few devices which can be used to check whether a person has a solid foundation or not. Since we have been working on your foundation from the last four months it's time I see if it has benefited or not. And if you are listening to my instructions and training."
Sandhya nodded in approval.
"As you can see this sword has lots of small and big markings like a ruler. You just need to channel your magic into this sword and try to lift it. When you feel that you have hit your limit and you can't lift the sword anymore tell me, I will check the marking."
"Okay."
Lola came down from the rock and Sandhya climbed up to the sword. As instructed by Lola, Sandhya held the handle by both her palms and took a deep breath to concentrate on it. She let loose her body and started to pull the sword by channelling her energy into it.
After some time, the sword moved a bit. Lola looked at the sword with anticipation. When the sword moved Sandhya channelled more energy into it and kept channelling more and more energy.
For a good amount of time, the sword didn't move after that but Sandhya felt like the sword in her hand which felt like an immovable object at first had turned lighter and gradually it felt lighter and lighter. And then Sandhya wasn't able to feel it's weight at all. That's when she lifted the sword into the sky at once.
Lola's eyes rounded in shock. When Sandhya wasn't able to lift the sword anymore after the first move, she had thought that her suspicion was right. But that thought completely crushed the movement Sandhya lifted the sword. It looked like that sword has exactly made for her and has been waiting for her to show up.
"Sandhya!"
Lola exclaimed and ran to her. Sandhya was still standing there holding the sword in the air and was examining it. Lola held both her hands which were gripping the handle and put the sword back into the place.
"Sandhya, stop putting your magic now!"
"Okay."
Sandhya listened to her and stopped giving her power to the sword. The sword slipped from her hands and went back into the hole with a loud thud and the whole place tremored. Sandhya and Lola lost their balance and fell back.
After Lola calmed down, she immediately stormed out of that place with Sandhya like their lives were in danger.
…
After they went away two boys came to that place running. Both of them were wearing some sort of uniform. One of them inspected his surroundings to find any person. There was no one except them. His sight then fell on the sword resting on the rock. There were small cracks on it beside the sword. He went and examined it.
"Someone was here."
He faced the other boy who was with him and said, "Looks like the person somehow managed to lift the sword but then that person's magic ran out, because of which it fell back into its hole creating these cracks. The loud thud earlier must be due to this. But there's no one to confirm my theory. What do you think?"
The other boy remained silent like it has nothing to do with it.
The first boy sighed, "Let's get back. And report about it to the chief."
…
Lola who was dragging Sandhya along with her finally stopped and breathed with relief. They have come far away from that place as much as they can to not get noticed by anyone. But she was still worried what if there would be a big commotion after they left? Will they try to find who did this? Will anyone report about the weird incident to anyone? Were there other people besides them?
She thought even if there were, it's fine as long as no one has seen them.
Now she is regretting running that test without telling Sere about it. What will happen if she knows about it? What will happen when she will know that her Sandhya has an exceptional magical affinity. Dammit! She should feel proud of it but she can't help but panic. She almost bit her nails but didn't eat it.
The impact was great. Sandhya’s eyes blurred and her head was dizzy. She slumped on the ground while holding onto the net. “Are you alright?”She shook her head and tried to get up. “Why didn’t you use your mana layer? I’m amazed you are still standing.” Demi said.A while later her dizziness subsided and her eyes cleared. She saw Demi resting near the post. “How much time did I take?”“10 minutes. Much faster than a normal person.”He gave her water to drink and replenish her energy. “There are 20 minutes left. Do you want to continue or want to get some rest?”“I will continue.”“Then you better use mana layer or else you won’t last.”Demi prepared himself to kick the ball. He gave a quick look to confirm Sandhya is alright and gathered all his energy on his foot. With a swing, his foot touched the ball sending it towards her. Sandhya took a deep calm breath and replayed all the moments where she had practiced with her magic. Regaining her strength and confidence she poured all
Sandhya nodded and watched the whole fight. The time they had for the fight ended and the result was a draw. Both of them were equally matched and both of them had sustained some damage. The fight ended and the crowd dispersed. Jazz and Sandhya went to them. Jazz handed both of them a healing crystal to treat the wounds.“That was a nice fight. Both of you must have enjoyed it.”“You were late though.” Said Wynn. Her eyes landed on her tag and her weapon.“You are a patrol member?” “Yep, just joined today. Sorry, I didn’t make it on time. But I enjoyed watching you two nonetheless.”Sandhya and Jazz went towards the playing grounds. On the way, they met some troublemakers but Jazz was able to pacify them. Sandhya watched and noticed how he was doing it so that she could apply those techniques. They were walking beside a football ground when a ball hit Sandhya with tremendous speed. Sandhya put up her mana layer but the timing was slow. She was pushed back quite some meter away. Wh
She said this loudly so that each and everyone present in the classroom could hear her. The student's jaws dropped after hearing this. They indeed had noticed it and they also knew the real incident but who could tell these mind-sick girls that are way head over heels about Kane. Some boys couldn’t stop their laughs so muffled sounds of laughter echoed in the room. Those girls glared at Sandhya and those boys who dared to laugh.‘Did she just call them crazy?’ Thought those girls in their mind. Those boys also stopped laughing instantly knowing that if they didn’t then it might become their last laugh.Sandhya waited for Kane to speak.‘Say something. At least say a word so that I can clean this mess up.’ Sandhya yelled at Kane in her mind. But when she didn’t even see a shift in Kane’s face, she decided to initiate it herself.“Is there anything between us, Kane?”She asked and slammed the desk to get his attention. Kane finally looked at her. He stared at her deep brown eyes who wer
Lola rolled her eyes. No doubt about it she is turning like her sly best friend. They are sisters after all. …. The next day Sandhya and lanlan were walking to the academy when Sandhya asked, “What happened about the duel between you and that girl named Wynn?” “We’ll duel in today's break at the practice ground before our lessons.” Said Lanlan. When they reached the entrance gate, they saw Wynn and her two friends standing there waiting for someone or maybe for them? “You are here.” She said looking at them. “I thought you may not come so I was waiting here to confirm but looks like you didn’t back off on your words.” Lanlan only returned it with a smile. “All the best to both of you.” Said Sandhya to both of them. “I was also waiting for you. I wanted to invite you to see the match.” Said Wynn. “Sure, I will be present there.” Wynn nodded and said to lanlan, “Let’s go.” Lanlan sighed and they went to their classrooms. “You came.” Sandhya turned her head and saw Aina st
Ren had a weird expression on her face when Sandhya showed her the medicine she was holding, “The wound looked deep so went to bring medicine. While returning I came across this stall who was selling these so I bought them.” Ren looked at Sandhya’s calm face as if it’s her daily job buying medicine and sweet potatoes. She internally facepalmed herself. “Well, come in.” Sandhya nodded and entered the house. The house was nicely furnished with just the daily necessities. The front door opens directly to the living area. She put the baked potatoes on the table and her bag on a chair while Ren went into the kitchen to wash her wound. Some time passed and Sandhya entered the kitchen. Ren was standing in front of the faucet with her eyes closed while trying to put her hand underwater. She looked like a reluctant kid who doesn’t want to take her injection. ‘It will take forever.’ She sighed and took a small cloth to clean the wound. Since Ren was busy deciding she didn’t notice Sandhy
Ren puffed her cheeks up while Sandhya shrugged her shoulders.“Shall we go now?”“Yeah…”When they got out of the academy building Ren asked, “Wouldn’t you like to visit the headmistress?”“Hm? Why?”“To tell her about this incident. Felicita and Luisa might try to smear your name. If you tell the headmistress everything beforehand then you may not get punished.”“I don’t think so.” Sandhya replied.“Why?”“First of all, even though they had initiated the fight and I was trying to defend, the classroom got damaged in which I was a part. So, technically I should be punished for this as well or students will take the rules lightly.Second, the incident happened during lunch break and no one was seriously injured so higher-ups may not put much stress on it. They may get it closed saying that this was just a small fe
