Vera’s Point of View
As I said, I went outside and kept scanning the surroundings. It was safe around here, no suspicious activities.
While I was gazing at the hospital entrance and exit, someone called my name, and I nearly jumped in surprise.
At first, I thought it was Ares, but as the person approached me, I felt my palms getting sweaty, not out of fear, but out of nervousness and inexplicable feelings. It was Alder, my friend who is also a doctor, and I just remembered that he works at this hospital too.
"Alder!" I greeted him with surprise, trying to calm myself.
"What are you doing here?" he asked, wondering. I quickly glanced at the car. The windows were tinted, but he seemed to understand what I was trying to convey.
"A new mission?" he answered his own question, and I nodded.
"Who?" he inquired further.
I jumped in surprise as our car honked.
I jumped even more when the window on Ares' side opened.
"Verania, do your job! Clara is here!" he called out, pointing to a woman walking towards the car.
"Oh? Ares is your job now, huh? Nice!" Alder said with amusement, and I just rubbed the back of my head.
"Yeah, we need to leave. Our appointment here has arrived," I said, smiling at him.
"Okay," he replied, waving at me, and I waved back before running to the driver's seat since Ares seemed to be in a hurry.
"Are you on time for work? Why are you flirting?" he said, sounding uncertain about what he was saying.
I adjusted my seat and glanced at the woman named Clara, who was sitting behind me.
"Sorry, it won't happen again. He's just a friend," I replied shortly, then looked back at Clara, who just smiled at me.
I slightly smiled back, returning her gesture, so she wouldn't think I'm snobbish.
"Clara, this is my bodyguard, nurse, and driver, Verania. You can call her Vera," Ares introduced me to Clara.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Isabella Clara Hernandez. It's up to you which of my names you want to call me," she said with a hint of shyness.
"Ah, okay, let's go with 'Doctor,’" I replied shortly emphasizing the word doctor, since I was busy watching the road. I can’t continue chatting with them or else they might witness an accident going to happen.
"Hehe, alright..." she chuckled, scratching her neck, and I didn't bother to reply further, especially since I do not need to, and I do not have the guts to reply too.
Ares knows I am his fiancee and he should see how unpleasant my actions will be if he’s with another woman, so he could at least believe me being his fake fiancee. We returned to Ares' restaurant, and they both started eating. Of course, I didn't want to be left behind, so I also started eating right beside their table. I didn't want to share the table because it wouldn't look good. Besides, it's their date, and I didn't want to be a third wheel, duh. While I was enjoying my Butter Honey Garlic shrimp, one of the dishes I ordered, Alder suddenly sat in the chair opposite me. What is he doing here?
"You're eating lunch here too!" he exclaimed in surprise as he placed his tray of orders on the table.
"And you're the one surprised? You're the one who joined my table," I replied, and he laughed.
"Sorry hehe," he said, glancing at the table beside us where Ares and Clara were sitting.
"Oh, are they together with Clara?" he whispered to me, making me look at Ares.
"Maybe? I'm not sure, but I heard that Ares is courting her," I replied.
"Ah, so it's a lunch date!" he concluded.
"Yup!" I answered, looking back at us, and Ares raised an eyebrow when he noticed Alder. I chuckled lightly at his reaction.
They know each other too since their dads are close friends. However, it seems like they only know each other and are not really friends.
"Anyway, are you really not planning to go back to working in hospitals? You'd rather stay in the army?" Alder started a new conversation.
"Yeah, if I were to decide, out of 100 percent, maybe only 12 percent of me wants to go back," I replied with a laugh, and he nodded.
Alder and I continued chatting, and we fell silent when we overheard Ares and Clara's conversation.
The two of us immediately turned our heads to the other table to witness what was happening. I think Alder and I seems to love gossips, I shook my head to prevent myself from laughing at my thought, then I finally turned to see Clara and Ares."I'm saying yes, Ares," Clara said happily, and I glanced at Alder, who raised an eyebrow at me.
"R-really?" Ares stuttered with widened eyes, and Clara nodded before standing up and hugging him.
I winced and looked at Alder when he offered me water.
"Water?" he said, and I quickly accepted it.
"Sure, I'll go ahead. It seems I took a while," he said, and I nodded.
But before he could stand up from his previous seat, Ares called him, raising my eyebrows. Why and for what?
"Bring your cousin with you," Ares said, making me look at him with an arched brow.
"Cousin?" I asked in confusion, furrowing my forehead.
"Yes, Vera. Clara is my cousin; her mother is my father's younger sister," Alder replied, answering my question. As our eyes met, I couldn't help but stare at his eyes for a moment.
I felt a shiver, somewhat reminiscent of the eyes of the person who shot Ares' car a few days ago.
"Alright, Vera, Ares, we'll go ahead," Alder said, smiling at me, and Clara followed him after kissing Ares on the cheek.
I shook my head at what I was thinking. It couldn't be Alder, it's impossible! It just can't be!
"Vera? What are you hesitating about? Let's go!" Ares called, so I quickly approached him to push his wheelchair.
"Are we going home?" I asked.
"Yeah," he replied shortly, with evident joy in his tone.
Though I found my thoughts about Alder impossible, I still needed to be cautious and investigate. I can't let my mind be occupied with too many thoughts. I'll start my investigation with Alder. Maybe I have feelings for him, but Ares is my job, and he's the one I need to protect.
--Third Person's Point of ViewThe time and hour of Ares' departure has indeed come. He was accompanied by his grandfather, Thaddeus Montero.Just like what Verania thought during the times she tried to convince Ares, he did not join her.Ares texted her that he'll wait at the airport for her before he finally leaves, but Verania didn't even think about going. She knows that she'll ruin everything again once she goes to him. That's why instead of heading straight to the airport, he went to Olivia's bar. It was noon, so there were no people inside, just Verania and of course Olivia, who was serving drinks to the young woman."I didn't think you would choose to drink rather than take Kuya home," Olivia said to Verania, who was playing with the ice in her drink. She's drinking non-alcoholic beverages, which is why she has the confidence to down each glass without hesitation."Is that a joke?" Verania raised an eyebrow when asked that.Olivia couldn't help but laugh when Vera asked such a q
Verania's Point of ViewIt has been a month since the culprit responsible for the harm to the lives of Tito Stan and Ares was caught.I also haven't really noticed the swift passage of the months. Even my feelings, I didn't notice the change.I have missed many things because of the amount of attention I give to what I'm doing, especially at work. Sometimes I fail, but I don't dwell on it and often use those experiences as motivation for what I'm currently doing and for what I will do in the near future.Of course, the elections just finished, and who won the governorship? It's none other than Tito Stan, and it seems that the one who took over the position of Congressman is also quite decent. He is often busy now because of the many things he has to take care of, but even so, his worries have lessened, especially since those who wanted to harm them are no longer free.As for Tita Charlotte, she managed their other sources of income while Olivia stayed in charge of managing their main
Third Person’s Point of View "Glad you asked me that, First Lieutenant," Sid said happily as he turned to Gustavo beside him. "Can I be the one to shoot one of them?" Sid said goodbye with a broad smile, while Gustavo grimaced at Sid's question. "Who among them?" Is Ares there? The tone of the Congressman’s question is lazy. "Oh, I wish it were possible." "Go ahead, before I change my mind," Gustavo responded lazily as he lowered his gun. Meanwhile, Sid tightly gripped the gun and cocked it. He slowly raised his arm and aimed the gun at Ares, startling Verania. Verania's eyes widened and her heart began to race. She didn't know what to do to stop Sid from going through with what he was about to do to the young man next to her. She wanted to run and approach Sid to snatch the gun from him, but with Ares's tight grip on her hand, she hesitated whether to leave his side. That's why, when she saw that Sid was ready to pull the trigger, she blocked her body in front of the young man
Third Person's Point of View"You are so many!" Gabriella's complaint is that she has already tied up and brought down quite a number of their opponents."Miss Gab, we still can't find First Lieutenant Sir Ares, and the same goes for Greg," Tristan said as he approached Gab, who was currently stretching."Search carefully, I know this place is big and has many twists and turns, but you will find them, just hurry up, it's exhausting to avoid the attacks from the enemies here!" The young woman complained, and Tristan quickly saluted and followed Gab's instructions; he informed his colleagues of the young woman's orders to speed things up."Second Lieutenant," called Josefa, one of Verania's group, to Gabriella, who immediately turned around. "Where is Captain Vic?" Ask him about this further."Maybe she was dealing with something more important, perhaps the alleged mastermind has escaped and that's what she's following now," Gabriella replied, forcefully bringing down a man rushing towa
Third Person's Point of View"You're being released," he replied curtly, Verania released a sarcastic laugh that echoed throughout the room."Are you kidding me?" Verania asked angrily, her sarcasm still evident."I'm kidding if I said I'm letting you go and then I tighten the bonds on you." Verania fell silent when she heard Cristoforo's reply, as if she had been doused with cold ice by what he said to her.She couldn't believe it, she didn't know why he would want to let her go when her father, Gustavo Donatelli, was on his side?Verania's mind started to think that maybe Cristoforo was going crazy."Why are you doing this?" Verania asked without restraint when he finally removed the chain from her foot. There were many padlocks there, so it was no wonder it took so long to remove."I'm a double agent," he stopped removing the chain to look up at Verania. "I am under my father but, I am also under someone from your side and I am more loyal to him than to Dad, who I know has only a f
Third Person's Point of View"Boss, someone found us!" a man shouted loudly to Gustavo, causing Verania's face to brighten, as whoever it was could surely save Ares."And how did they find us? Only we know about this place!" Gustavo held his grip firmly as he spoke, his eyes shifting back to the man who informed him of the situation outside."Create a distraction, block whoever they are!" Gustavo shouted again, and the man who had just been there quickly disappeared from sight."Don't let them get here!" he added, prompting the others who were just inside to quickly rush out of the room they were in, likely to confront the people outside. Now, Gustavo's gaze fell on his son, Cristoforo, so Vera did the same. She directed her eyes to Cristoforo."Ares and Vera, we'll take them to the other headquarters where our other comrades are," Gustavo calmly instructed his son Cristoforo, who quickly went to where Verania was sitting. The noise o
