The second I got home, I didn't even pretend to act normal.

I kicked my heels off so hard one of them hit the wall. I ripped my dress off in two seconds flat and tossed it somewhere on my bed. My hair clip got yanked out and thrown across the room because I swear if I kept it on my head one more second, I was going to scream.

I stomped into my bathroom like a cartoon character who just got cursed.

Who the hell did Nico think he was?

I stood in front of the mirror still fuming, mascara smudg

PRESENT DAY I hadn't been home in a little while. The house felt the same when I walked in—quiet, sterile, too clean. Like no one really lived there, just passed through. My mother glanced up from her phone when I stepped inside. "Where have you been?" "With a friend," I said. She nodded once. No questions. No concern. My dad barely looked at me. "You staying long?" "I just need to grab some things." "Okay." That was it. No are you okay. No we were worried. Nothing. My chest ached in that dull, familiar way as I walked down the hallway to my room. I packed slowly—clothes first, then more clothes. I didn't say the word moving out, but my hands already knew. I knew, I wanted to leave. I realized something then, folding a sweater into my bag. I'd been happier away from them. Way happier. That thought scared me... and relieved me at the same time. I grabbed my laptop, zipped my bag, and left without anyone noticing. The front door closed softly behind me. No one stopp

FIVE YEARS AGO Nico walked me out of school for the last time. I had to admit. I was definitely sad. It was quiet in that strange way it gets when everyone else has already left. The sun was low, everything was too quiet. He had his hands in his pockets, shoulders tense, jaw tight. "You okay?" I asked. He nodded automatically. "Yeah," he said. "Just... tired." I knew better even then. We stopped near the steps, where we always did. My backpack felt heavier than usual, like I didn't want to take it off, like leaving meant something I wasn't ready for. "So," I said, forcing a smile. "You're done. Graduated. Big scary future." He huffed a quiet sound. "Something like that." He didn't look at me when he spoke next. "Things are gonna change for me," he said. I swallowed. "Change how?" He finally looked at me then. And for just a second, the mask slipped. "I won't be around much," he said. "Not like this. Not for a while." My chest tightened. I frowned. "Oh," I said sof

Nico wore me out, but I loved every moment of it. We were lying side by side, the room quiet except for the distant hum of the city below. Nico was on his back, one arm tucked behind his head, the other resting loosely around my waist. I was tracing idle patterns along his stomach, my fingertip following the lines of his abs. "Nico?" I asked quietly. "Mm?" he hummed. I hesitated, then asked the question that had been sitting heavy in my chest. "What... happened to your mom? You don't talk about her." His body went still. I felt it immediately—the subtle tension, the way his chest lifted sharply before he exhaled. He swallowed, eyes fixed on the ceiling, not really looking at anything. "She... uh... she ended her own life," he said quietly. My heart dropped, I didn't say anything yet. I lifted my head to look at him, but his expression was distant, like he'd slipped somewhere far away. "I was young," he continued, voice steady but hollow. "Really young. Sometimes

Mature Content Nico didn't say anything at first. He just looked at me for a second, jaw tight and eyes dark, then suddenly his arms were around me and my feet left the ground. I laughed softly, instinctively wrapping my arms around his neck as he carried me toward the bedroom like I weighed nothing. "Nico," I murmured. "You're not walking after that," he said calmly, like it was already decided. He laid me down on the bed gently, carefully, like I was something precious—but the look in his eyes said he was barely holding himself back. I propped myself up on my elbows, watching him stand there. Then I bit my lip. Slowly, deliberately, I reached for the hem of my shirt and tugged it up just enough for him to notice. Then I slipped it off. I wasn't wearing a bra. His brow lifted slightly. "Well," he said quietly, his gaze never leaving me, "someone's excited." I smiled sweetly. "Actually," I said, sitting up a little straighter, "I changed my mind." His body stilled inst

Slight Warning I hadn't gone home. A week passed, and I was still here. My parents called once. Just once. Their voices were polite. Distant. They asked if I was okay. I said yes. I wasn't. I didn't tell them anything. The only person I really spoke to was Lizzy. She was still with our grandparents, which meant she didn't have to see how empty I felt. She didn't have to worry about me being alone at home. The week I spent with Nico wasn't what people would imagine. It wasn't passionate or reckless. It was quiet. Some days I didn't want to eat. Some days I didn't want to talk. Some days I just stared at the ceiling, exhausted in a way sleep didn't fix. And Nico stayed anyway. He watched movies with me, even when I didn't really follow the plot. He sat beside me when I cried, never rushing me, never asking questions I wasn't ready to answer. He held me when the weight in my chest felt unbearable, his arms steady, like he was anchoring me to something real. He even asked En

The drive there was quieter than I expected. Enzo was in the backseat, legs stretched out, talking like he always did when he was nervous — which was constantly, apparently. "I swear I didn't fall asleep," he said for the third time. "I remember a wolf." I turned around in my seat. "There was no wolf." "There was," he insisted. "Big. Hairy. Angry." "It's vampire show," I said flatly. "I'm pretty sure it was a wolf and vampire in a love triangle." I sighed. "Enzo. That's Twilight." There was a pause. "...Okay," he admitted. "Maybe I wasn't paying full attention." "Yes because you totally fell asleep!" Nico groaned from the driver's seat. "You're both giving me a headache." Despite myself, I smiled. It helped. Just a little. Enzo chuckled, and teased him. "Relax, Nico." But the closer we got, the tighter my chest felt. The 'alley house' sat hidden between abandoned buildings — a massive, empty warehouse that looked like it hadn't been used in years. No si
