Mag-log inWhen Dexter Welch, a security guard who works in the residential area, sees me driving my pink Toyota Corolla everywhere, he's very certain that I'm a sugar baby who's being backed by her own sugar daddy. On the first day, I see one word getting carved into the car hood. It says "bitch". I merely give the hood a wipedown without uttering a word. Later on, I swap out the current SD card of my dashcam to an SD card that has a 512 GB memory. On the second day, my car windows get smashed in. When I go over to the property management office to check the security footage, the front desk agent tells me that the security camera overseeing my car "happens" to be broken. Dexter leans against the desk with a grin on his face. "If that car of yours is ruined, then so be it. Tell your sugar daddy to buy you another one." I crouch down and take a picture of the damage. Then, I save it into a folder called "evidence" in my phone. On the third day, two of my tires have gone flat. When I bend down to pick up a spare tire, Dexter hugs me from behind all of a sudden. He murmurs into my ear, "What's so good about sleeping with an old codger? Why don't you date me instead? I'm young and strong—" That's when I grab a wrench and smash it right into his arm. As Dexter nurses his injured arm, he glares at me. "How dare you lay a finger on me! Go ahead and lodge a report, then! My uncle's the property manager here! What can you do about me, hmm?" I silently note down Dexter's work ID without saying anything. On the fourth day, I drive another pink car back to the apartment. As soon as Dexter notices the flash of pink in its usual parking slot, he smiles as he exits the guardhouse. Then, he pulls out a key from his pocket and scratches my car with all his strength. An older gentleman who happens to be walking his dog nearby freezes in his tracks. He sounds so startled that his voice actually cracks. "Have you gone nuts? Do you know the model of the car you've just scratched? That's a top-tier Rolls-Royce!"

Raina's POV I kept my head down as I walked through the main doors of Frostvale Academy, but my mind was completely focused on the secret I had been keeping for months, because Damon and I had been seeing each other behind everyone's backs for a long time. Nobody in the pack knew about us because his father would lose his mind if he found out his son was messing around with a girl who couldn't even shift into a wolf, but whenever we were alone, Damon was totally different from the cold guy everyone saw at school. I really believed he cared about me, so I kept telling myself that tonight at the ceremony would finally be the moment we didn't have to hide anymore. "Look at what you're wearing, Raina," Mira said as she stepped right in front of me in the hallway, and before I could even move away, she deliberately spilled her drink all over the front of my dress. "Why did you just do that?" I asked, and I stepped back while trying to wipe the liquid off my clothes. "Because you look ridiculous trying to dress up for a ceremony that doesn't even concern you," Mira laughed, and she pointed at the wet spot while her friends laughed right along with her. "You don't even have a wolf, so you shouldn't even be allowed in the building tonight." "I have every right to be here just like you," I said, but before I could say anything else, my brother Ethan walked over from the hockey lockers and shoved his way between us. "Stop making a scene and embarrassing me in front of my team," Ethan said, and he glared at me like I was taking something away from him just by standing there. "Mira just ruined my dress on purpose, Ethan," I said, looking at my brother while I tried to keep my voice steady. "I don't care about your dress, Raina, because tonight is about the hockey team and the pack's future," Ethan said, turning his back on me to fix his jacket. "You always try to steal the attention from me, but nobody cares about a girl who can't shift and can't even play the game." "If you cared so much about the game, you'd fix your defensive line for the championship match," I said, stepping closer so only he could hear me. "Your team is leaving the left side completely open during power plays, and any smart captain is going to exploit that within the first five minutes." Ethan's face went red, and he shoved me back by my shoulder before I could say another word. "Keep your mouth shut about hockey, because you don't know anything about this team," Ethan snapped, and he walked off toward his friends without checking to see if I was okay. I cleaned myself up as best as I could in the restroom and then walked down the quiet side hallway toward the equipment room, because Damon had sent me a text to meet him there before the main event started. I pushed the door open and stepped inside, and Damon immediately grabbed my waist and pulled me into the corner where nobody could see us from the glass window. "Are you crazy coming down here where someone could see us?" Damon whispered, but he didn't let go of my waist, and he leaned down to kiss my neck. "I came because you texted me, Damon," I said, placing my hands against his chest while I looked up at his face. "Mira ruined my dress, and Ethan was being terrible to me out there, so I just needed to know if things are going to change tonight." "Nothing can change tonight, Raina, and you need to listen to me carefully," Damon said, and his hands tightened on my waist while his jaw set firm. "We cannot let anyone discover our relationship, especially not my father, because if he finds out about us right now, it will mess up everything he has planned for the pack." "We've been hiding for six months, Damon," I said, looking right into his eyes while my voice shook a little. "If the Moon Goddess picks us as mates tonight, we won't have to hide anymore, because not even your father can argue with a fated bond." "Just don't do anything stupid out there," Damon said, and he kissed me quickly on the lips before he pulled away and walked out the door first so we wouldn't be seen together. An hour later, the entire academy was gathered in the main hall for the Moon Bond Ceremony, and I stood near the back wall while everyone talked loudly about who was going to get paired up. The heavy doors opened, and Damon walked in with his father, Alpha Marcus, right behind him. Damon looked straight ahead as he walked to the center of the floor, but as soon as he took another step, his entire body went completely stiff, and his eyes snapped directly to mine across the crowded room. A sharp pull hit my chest, and the scent of pine filled my head as Damon's wolf pushed right to the surface, making his eyes turn a glowing gold. The whole room went totally silent because everyone could feel the mate bond snapping into place between us, and my heart started beating fast because I thought my dream was actually coming true right in front of everyone. Damon took a step toward me, but then he suddenly stopped, and his golden eyes went completely cold as he stared at me like he hated my guts. "Damon, what is going on?" Alpha Marcus asked, stepping up beside his son with a frown on his face. Damon kept his eyes locked on mine, and he didn't even hesitate as he raised his voice so every single person in the hall could hear him clearly. "I reject you, Raina," Damon said, and his voice was completely flat without any emotion at all. I felt like all the air had been kicked out of my lungs, and I took a step forward while everyone around us started gasping and whispering. "Damon, what are you doing?" I asked, and my voice cracked because I couldn't believe the boy who had been kissing me in secret an hour ago was standing there acting like I was a stranger. "You know this isn't right." "Look at yourself, Raina," Damon said, glaring at me like I was something disgusting. "You are a powerless girl from a broken family who can't even shift into a wolf, so there is no way I am ever going to take you as my Luna." "My son speaks the truth," Alpha Marcus added, stepping forward with a cold look on his face. "A future Alpha cannot be tied to someone so weak, so this bond is officially broken." Ethan walked out from the crowd, and instead of standing by me, he laughed along with the other hockey players while people started pointing at my wet dress and making fun of me. My chest hurt so badly I couldn't even breathe, so I turned around, shoved my way past the doors, and ran out into the night as fast as my legs could take me. Damon stood in the center of the hall and watched the doors swing shut behind me, and he quietly tightened his hands into hard fists at his sides, knowing that his father's scheme was finally moving forward and giving them the exact chance they needed to get rid of the girl who threatened their entire dynasty.I glanced at the flood of pleading messages on my phone screen and immediately left the group chat without saying a word.At 2:00 pm, the resident who had led the charge in posting my photos and spreading rumors in the group chat was in a meeting at his company. The attorney Jared had sent personally delivered a sternly worded legal letter to him in front of his manager and all his colleagues. The meeting was cut short on the spot, and his department manager called him into the office for a private discussion right away. Their conversation lasted less than ten minutes. He ended up resigning voluntarily on the grounds that the company couldn't keep an employee who posed serious legal and ethical risks.Meanwhile, the permed-haired woman who had stuck that filthy note on my door and torn my blouse was at a card club, bragging to her friends about how she had taught the troublemaker in the building a lesson. Two officers pushed the door open and walked straight up to her. "Are you Ba
Jared pressed a button on the remote control, and a clear audio recording began to play.It was exactly what Jim had told the police when they came to mediate a few days earlier. "She seems mentally unstable… The surveillance cameras just happened to stop working…"Jared closed his laptop and said coldly, "Mr. Griffin, you abused your position on multiple occasions to cover up criminal acts committed by your subordinate, including provoking disturbances, intentional destruction of property, and sexual assault."You also deliberately shut off power to the surveillance system. When the police came to gather evidence, you provided a fabricated statement in an attempt to mislead them. Your actions already constitute obstruction of justice, abuse of authority, and aiding in the concealment of criminal acts."Jim looked at the evidence on the screen, then at Dexter, who was still kneeling on the ground and clearly terrified out of his wits. He suddenly rushed forward and kicked Dexter.
Suddenly, the women screamed from the balconies above, followed by the sound of cups shattering onto the ground.Dexter, kneeling on the ground, suddenly clutched my heels with both hands and wailed, "Ms. Stanton, I really know I was wrong! It's all my brother-in-law's fault! Jim was the one who told me to do all this!"He said you were just a woman from out of town with no connections and that I could bully you however I wanted. He said if I drove you out, we could buy your apartment at a low price. Please let me off just this once! I have a wife and kids to support! I'm begging you!"As he cried, he slapped himself hard across both cheeks over and over. Sharp smacks rang out, and blood soon seeped from the corner of his mouth.I pulled my foot back in disgust and took half a step backward. "When you threw my takeouts in the trash, why didn't you think about your wife and kids? When you led people to pound on my door in the middle of the night, and when you pinned me against the w
The baton in Dexter's hand hit the ground with a loud clang. His knees buckled, and he collapsed onto the floor. He shouted incoherently, his eyes wild, "1… 120 thousand dollars? Are you out of your damn minds? That's just a beat-up Corolla with some pink film slapped on it! You… You're all working together to rip me off!"Jared Richardson, the legal director, adjusted his glasses, pulled a damage assessment report stamped with an official seal from his briefcase, and threw it straight at Dexter's face.Jared said, "Read it carefully. One scratch costs 120 thousand dollars. Based on the complete surveillance footage we obtained, you caused a total of five scratches. Add to that the two custom puncture-resistant tires you slashed, the soundproof glass you shattered, and all the other damage—"Jared looked at him and stated the final amount, "The total compensation comes to 4.12 million dollars."Dexter snapped his head up and stared at me. The arrogance and smugness in his eyes had
I watched the young guard walk away and noted down his badge number. The next day, the property management office posted a public notice on the bulletin board. The heading was printed in large red letters that read, "Notice of Mandatory Removal of Residents with Misconduct Records."Their stated r
Before the officer could take the memory card, Dexter lunged forward and snatched it away, hurling it down onto the concrete floor. He crushed it under the heel of his leather shoe until the plastic casing shattered into pieces.Dexter shrugged. "What memory card? I didn't see anything."Jim immed
I tore off the note, turned around, and headed downstairs to the property management office. "I want to pull up the hallway surveillance footage and find out who stuck the note on my door."The receptionist rolled her eyes. "The hallway cameras aren't under our control. They've been broken for two
Walter Lambert, an old man walking his dog nearby, called out, "That's a Rolls-Royce Phantom! There are only a few in the whole country!"Dexter Welch, the security guard at my apartment complex, froze for a moment before bursting into laughter. "Are your eyes failing you? A Rolls-Royce? In pink?"
