Chapter Twenty-One

Harken drags his feet the entire way to class after dropping Noel off at hers, rushing off in excitement that soon vanished once she was gone. He has quickly realized her presence is the source of his peace, the only thing that can keep him grounded. Whenever she is around, he feels like he has control over his raging emotions and can better keep himself in check.

When she isn’t there, he can’t shake the edge to his irritation, quickly lashing out at the smallest things and taking on a whole new personality of anger when pushed far enough.

The moments when he blacks out, his inner demon consuming him, spitting through his mouth words he never knows he has spoken until it is too late, attacking anyone he feels is a threat. When he comes too, everything is a blur, and he is left to deal with the after math.

I never want her to see me like that. Who knows what I’m capable of during those times if she is around.
