Chapter 385

Author: Maureen Green
At the same time, Colin sat in his office, looking at news reports about Aspen on his computer screen.

"Colin, what are you looking at?" Gwyneth asked curiously when she entered carrying coffee and saw Colin staring at the computer screen.

Colin quickly closed the computer and turned to face Gwyneth. "Nothing, just browsing some news."

Gwyneth nodded as she moved closer to Colin. She gently embraced him, asking softly, "Colin, are you still troubled about the investor conference?"

"It's nothing." Colin shook his head. "I just think your coffee tastes really good."

"Really?" Gwyneth smiled. "If you like it, I'll make it for you every day."

"Of course." Colin nodded and drained the coffee in his cup.

"Colin, could you... call me the way you used to call Aspen?" Gwyneth suddenly asked with a hint of pleading in her voice.

Colin's eyes snapped open as he looked at Gwyneth, his gaze filled with shock and confusion. He didn't know what to say. He hadn't expected Gwyneth to make such

"Mr. Miller," Aspen called out behind him. "Please tell Mr. Jefferson Senior that Fuller Group is not a chess piece, and I'm not a player to be manipulated."John paused without turning around, nodded slightly, then opened the door and left. Aspen stared at the doorway for a long time, seemingly speechless.John's visit was like a bucket of ice water poured over her head, turning her vague suspicions into harsh reality. She walked back to her desk and picked up a document, only to notice her hands trembling slightly."How did it come to this?" she whispered to herself.Setting down the document, her gaze fell on the cooperation agreement at the corner of her desk, Aetheris Group's logo particularly glaring.Out of professional habit, she began carefully examining the signatures and seals on the document—her usual cautious practice. Yet in this casual moment, a detail caught her attention. In the authorized signatory section at the bottom right, Aren's title read "executive direct

Aspen's eyes darkened slightly, though her expression remained composed. "Please continue.""This is our internal assessment report." John pushed the document across the desk."Mr. Jefferson's relationship with you has caused obvious deviations in work allocation and resource deployment. The 300 million dollars invested in Fuller Group has seriously delayed our Southeast Allana project."Aspen reviewed the report impassively. "So the Jeffersons are here to demand accountability?""Not at all." John raised his hand diplomatically."We simply hope you can appreciate the Jeffersons' position, Ms. Nicholls. Mr. Jefferson is the family's sole heir, and he carries the responsibility for our entire future. He must prioritize the Jeffersons' interests."Aspen closed the document, a faint cold smile playing at her lips. "So what exactly do the Jeffersons want me to do?""Ms. Nicholls, you're a smart woman." John looked directly at her. "For the long-term benefit of both parties, we hope

"Aren, you've disappointed us deeply." Mason shook his head. "The Jeffersons have raised you all these years, groomed you as our heir, and now you're opposing the family for an outsider?""I'm not opposing the family." Aren's voice was low but firm. "Everything I've done is for the Jeffersons' long-term interests. Fuller Group's technological breakthrough will completely reshape the industry. Withdrawing now means handing it over to our competitors.""That's Fuller Group's business. What does it have to do with the Jeffersons?" Cameron said coldly.Aren looked around the room. "If you're all only focused on short-term gains, then I have nothing more to say. But remember—miss this opportunity, and the Jeffersons will fall completely behind in the new energy sector.""The family has decided." Carlos tapped the table. "If you insist on this course, we'll have to invoke Family Rule No. 7."The meeting room fell silent. Rule No. 7 was well known to everyone present. It meant total remo

Aren returned to Aetheris Group as the phone's ring broke the silence."Mr. Jefferson, emergency family meeting in the main conference room in 30 minutes.""What's so urgent?" Aren frowned."Mr. Jefferson Senior's direct orders. All core members must attend." The tension was clear in Eric's voice.Aren set down Fuller Group's international technology transfer proposal he'd just finished. He'd planned to deliver it to Aspen personally in the morning, but now his family was creating complications. The meeting room atmosphere was heavy. Carlos sat at the head of the table, his expression grave. The moment Aren entered, a dozen pairs of eyes turned toward him, most carrying disapproval and reproach."Aren, you're here." Carlos gestured for him to sit. "I've called everyone together tonight for an important matter concerning the future of Aetheris Group."Aren calmly scanned the room, catching a hint of satisfaction on Mason's face. He knew this meeting was likely about his involveme

Aspen shook her head. "I just don't want to be kept in the dark. Your family opposes our relationship, and you've remained silent this whole time.""My family's opposition has nothing to do with you or my feelings for you." Aren stepped closer. "They're worried about Aetheris Group's interests, while I care about you.""That's just talk." Aspen smiled bitterly. "How am I supposed to face board members tomorrow who have already been lobbied by your family?""With facts." Aren's tone was resolute. "My identity might win you temporary trust, but what will truly make you invincible is your capability and Fuller Group's performance.""You still haven't answered my question." Aspen looked directly at him. "If you could go back in time, would you have told me your identity from the beginning?"Aren was quiet for a moment. "No.""Why not?""Because I wanted you to see the real me, not Aetheris Group's heir." Aren's voice was low. "I'd rather have you trust me because of who I am as a pe

Aren tried to take Aspen's hand, but she pulled away."Aren, I need to understand exactly what I'm fighting against." Aspen's voice trembled slightly. "I'm already dealing with board skepticism and public attacks. If you're keeping secrets from me too...""I've never doubted you, Pen." Aren's voice was low. "But there are some things I genuinely can't tell you right now."Aspen took a deep breath. "Fine. Then we should keep our distance for now, at least until after the board meeting.""You're pushing me away.""I'm protecting both of us." Aspen's voice carried exhaustion. "The board is already wavering. I need to completely focus on tomorrow's meeting. If they use our relationship as grounds to strip me of my authority, I won't be able to save the new energy project."Aren's expression was complex. "You're willing to sacrifice our relationship for the board's trust?""Not sacrifice—postpone." Aspen turned to face him. "I need you to understand that Fuller Group is my responsibi
