Chapter 429

Author: Maureen Green
When Colin opened his eyes again, he felt like he was waking up from a long nightmare.

He moved his body slightly and immediately felt a wave of weakness spread throughout his entire being, his head heavy and dizzy.

He instinctively turned his head and saw Gwyneth sitting beside the bed, watching him tenderly. Her eyes had dark circles, and her face showed traces of fatigue. Yet, when she saw him wake up, she immediately broke into a gentle smile.

Gwyneth asked softly, "Colin, you're awake! How are you feeling?"

Colin looked at her, and in his dazed state, she seemed like his last lifeline. He reached out and gripped her hand tightly, saying in a hoarse voice, "Gwyneth, I feel much better—just a bit weak."

Gwyneth squeezed his hand back, her eyes filled with tenderness. "I know it's uncomfortable, but it's okay. Everything will get better, and I'll always be by your side."

Colin gazed into Gwyneth's tender eyes, feeling an overwhelming sense of reliance well up inside him. In

A young man wearing a white shirt and glasses sat behind the desk, looking down at his computer. When he heard the sound, he looked up and sized up Aspen."Hello, I'm Dr. Powell's assistant, Josh Burke. How can I help you?" Josh's voice was gentle with just the right amount of politeness. Aspen slipped back into character, assuming an anxious expression on her face. "Hello, Mr. Burke. I'm here to make an appointment for my husband. He's been having terrible headaches lately, and a friend told me Dr. Powell is excellent at treating headaches. I wanted to make an appointment with him."Josh nodded. "I've already heard about your husband's situation. Your friend is right—Dr. Powell does have a lot of experience treating headaches. But why do you insist on seeing Dr. Powell specifically? We actually have other doctors at our clinic." "The nurse already told me that, but my husband's condition is really urgent. He can't sleep at night from the pain and has no energy during the day.

Megan took the medical record and flipped through it. Then, she looked up at Aspen. "Has your husband been treated at our clinic before? Do you have a patient card?"Aspen shook her head. "No, this is our first time here. Like I said, a friend just recommended Dr. Powell, saying he's particularly famous for treating headaches." Megan nodded. "Dr. Powell is our specialist here, but it's hard to secure an appointment with him. Let me check for you."Megan immediately turned around and began working on the computer. Aspen took this opportunity to observe the clinic's front desk more carefully. The reception area wasn't large—besides Megan's workstation, there were several rows of waiting chairs with a few patients scattered about, all looking somewhat unwell. The clinic walls were covered with health promotional posters and some doctor profiles, including one of Stefan. The man in the photo wore glasses and looked scholarly—it was hard to imagine such a person would do those kinds of

Aren sighed. He knew Aspen all too well. Once she made up her mind about something, it was very difficult to change it.Aren's tone became serious. "Alright, I respect your decision. But you must promise me you'll be extremely careful. Your safety comes first."Aspen's tone lightened a bit as she tried to ease Aren's concerns. "Don't worry, I won't joke around with my own safety. I'll disguise myself so no one will recognize me." Aren insisted, saying, "I'll arrange for elite bodyguards to discreetly protect you. If anything seems off, retreat immediately. Don't engage in any confrontations.""Got it. Thank you, Aren." Aspen felt a warm surge through her heart. Having Aren by her side made her feel incredibly secure. "Silly, why are you being so formal with me? Just stay safe," Aren reminded her, his voice full of tenderness. "I will!" Aspen nodded firmly. ...To ensure everything went perfectly, Aspen made careful preparations. She deliberately applied makeup to create a

On the other end of the phone, Aren's voice became serious as well. "So soon? It seems they can't wait any longer." Aspen replied with a cold glint in her eyes, "We need to speed up. We have to get solid evidence before they close their net.""I understand. I've already arranged for the tech team to try hacking into the clinic's system. Hopefully, we'll find medication records and transaction information," Aren responded immediately."Make it quick," Aspen pressed. "We're running out of time."Hanging up, Aspen felt urgency seize her in a vise-like grip. Gwyneth and Zac were moving faster than she'd anticipated, leaving her with little time. ...Meanwhile, Gwyneth watched Colin with barely concealed triumph. Over the past few days, she'd clearly noticed Colin's mental state improving considerably. Although he still occasionally suffered from headaches and bouts of irritability, it was much better compared to his previous listless condition. "Colin, how are you feeling? Much

"Should we get closer to hear what they're saying?" Chester suggested. Aspen shook her head. "That's too risky—we'd easily be discovered."She analyzed calmly, adding, "Right now, we just need to confirm that they're up to something. Next, we need to find a way to get proof of their transactions." Just then, Zac and Stefan finished their meeting and left the alley one after the other. Zac got in his car and drove away, while Stefan returned to the clinic. Deep in thought, Aspen watched Zac's car disappear into traffic. She mumbled, "Zac is more cautious than I expected.""Yeah, it's almost like they know they're doing something shady," Chester agreed. Aspen stood up and took a sip of her coffee. "Let's go. We should head back. Now it all depends on Aren's progress."...Meanwhile, at Aetheris Group's executive office, Aren sat behind his desk listening to a report from his assistant, Shane. "Mr. Jefferson, our people found out that the doctor's name is Stefan Powell, and

"Ms. Nicholls, we've got a situation." Riley burst into the office, slightly out of breath.Aspen looked up from her documents. "What is it?"Riley said urgently, "Zac was at the clinic again today, and he made some kind of exchange with a mysterious figure once more."Aspen's brow furrowed. "Mysterious figure? Did you get a clear look at their face?"Riley shook his head. "No—whoever it was took precautions. He wore a hat and a mask—he's completely unidentifiable."Riley paused and pulled out an envelope from his briefcase. "But I did manage to photograph their transaction." He handed the photos to Aspen.Aspen took the photos and quickly scanned them. The images were grainy, only showing two shadowy figures. One was clearly Zac, and the other, bundled up, showed no identifiable features."Any idea what was exchanged?" Aspen studied the photos, searching for clues.Riley replied with a hint of regret, "They were too far away for me to tell. But the transaction took place in
