It was silent since our visit to the South. Irritatingly loud silence.

The matter hung over our heads like a sword, and the lack of a plan about our next move was causing me so much distress, but Nicholus stayed determined to wait for a move from Father before jumping to any conclusions.

I had no idea what was going on in Father’s head, but this stretching silence from his side told me that he must be cooking something rotten.

That night, I was strolling on the lawn when I spotted Darius dashing out of the castle.

“Darius?” I approached him with hurried footsteps as he turned toward the woods.

He whipped around, surprised to see me there this late at night, “Ember? What are you doing here?”

I shrugged, “Just strolling around, inhaling some fresh air since Nicholus is busy with work.”
