Chapter 4

Author: Howl's Hamburger
"I'd like to see who dares!" Maybe my presence and tone were too imposing because, for a moment, no one moved.

At that, Candice dashed out of the class and started shouting at the top of her lungs, "Look, everyone! This is the freak parent who lets her daughter wear lingerie to school!

"She's causing a scene on campus and attacking teachers now. She's a menace to society, so we must expose her!"

It was nearly dismissal time, so some parents were gathered at the gate. Candice's yelling drew all of them over, along with the school staff.

"Seriously? How are parents with such low-class behavior in an elite kindergarten like ours?"

"Anyone who's been a teacher knows that you run into all sorts of freak and low-life parents in this job."

"Look at that little girl. She doesn't even look like a child; she's got the word 'manipulator' written all over her face. I bet she'll grow up to be a real piece of work."

With the crowd siding with her, Georgina regained her swagger. She pulled out her phone and sent a voice message in a sticky, sugary tone. "Honey… Someone's picking on me at school. Come stand up for me."

Less than ten minutes later, a Porsche screeched into the kindergarten grounds. The door opened to reveal Harvey, who stepped out in a sharp, tailored suit.

That Porsche was the birthday gift I had bought him just last month. Georgina fluttered into his arms and wept pitifully. "Honey! You're finally here!

"Look at my hand! That shrew scratched me so hard and ruined my clothes!"

Harvey held her protectively before turning to me with a furious glare. When he saw who I was, guilt flickered in his eyes for just a split second before he masked it.

In a reprimanding, lecturing tone, he snapped, "This is a school. It's not your home or a place for you to throw tantrums, ma'am."

Was he pretending not to know me?

Back when Harvey had nothing, he had knelt before Dad, crying and begging him to approve our marriage.

After a few years of living in comfort, did he think he had made it and was looking down on me? Did he think I was a hag who was only capable of house chores and wouldn't dare expose his lies?

"Harvey Hoffman," I said evenly. "Are you sure you want to take her side and mess with me?"

Harvey briefly froze, then sneered. "What nonsense is that? I'm the board's representative for this kindergarten, and Ms. Davies is my fiancee.

"Touching her means you're picking a fight with me and crossing the entire Hoffman Group."

Hoffman Group? I nearly laughed. When did my company change its name? Was this how he had always been, boasting and bragging to everyone else?

"Daddy…" Ava plaintively called out when she saw Harvey. "Daddy, Ms. Davies cut my dress and beat me up…"

To my disbelief, Harvey's face hardened before he stepped back in disgust. "Who are you calling 'Daddy'? Don't you dare associate yourself with me, you brat.

"Whose child is this? Stop trying to cling to my name!"

In that moment, the light in Ava's eyes completely went out. She stared blankly at Havey, who used to lift her onto his shoulders, but now looked at her like she was trash.

Heartbroken, I covered her eyes before taking out my phone to call my secretary, Landon Spencer. "Landon, I'm at Ava's kindergarten.

"Bring the legal team and all members of the board of directors here, now. Also, freeze all of Harvey's supplementary cards and reclaim his car. Terminate all his positions within the company."

I entrusted everything that followed to my lawyer. In the end, the court delivered its final verdict. Harvey was convicted of kidnapping and extortion, as well as large-scale embezzlement. With multiple crimes combined, he was sentenced to life in prison.I didn't attend the sentencing, and Landon later told me that when the gavel fell, Harvey collapsed onto the defendant's dock. He sobbed uncontrollably with tears and snot covering his face, screaming my name and begging for mercy.Unfortunately, affection that came too late was worthless. Besides, this wasn't affection—just terror at the thought of prison. The rest of his life would be spent behind bars, stamping license plates. As for Georgina, she received a 15-year sentence as an accomplice, along with previous charges of theft and child abuse. I heard that on her first day in prison, she threw a fit because she couldn't accept reality. She was promptly taught a lesson by the inmates' leader. The once arrogant "Ms. Davies,

"Call him back on video," Landon said quickly. "Act natural, but make sure he doesn't see the background."As he spoke, he quickly took off his dark suit jacket, draping it over my head and the phone to create a dark, enclosed space. I took a deep breath and tapped on the answer button with trembling fingers.Harvey's twisted, ferocious face immediately filled the screen. Ava was only half visible at the edge."Why is it so dark? Where are you? Aren't you at the office?" he roared, practically spitting through the screen. I forced down the wild pounding in my chest and struck first by yelling back at him, "The underground vault! Do you think a billion dollars in cash is kept in an office drawer?"I broke into Quantum Group's emergency reserve just to scrape your money together. It's fully sealed down here, and I didn't turn on the lights because it might trigger the light sensor alarms."If you keep talking nonsense and bring security down here, none of us gets the money!"He f

Calling the police was necessary, but now that Harvey was cornered, a desperate man like him was capable of doing anything. I couldn't provoke him now.He was an orphan. His hometown was a long-abandoned village in the remote mountains, and every property he owned in the city had been sealed. Where else could he possibly go?Suddenly, I thought of Georgina. When I dug into evidence of their affair earlier, I discovered that she owned an old farmhouse in a village on the outskirts of the city."Landon, immediately call the police, send them this address, and tell them that we're moving together. Ava's safety comes first!"By the time we arrived at the perimeter of the dilapidated farmhouse with the police, it was completely dark. To avoid tipping them off, the sirens had long since been shut off. The SWAT team captain signaled for us to stay in the safe zone, then directed his fully armed team to fan out and silently advance toward the farmhouse under the cover of the night. The

I scoffed. How was I so blind to miss how shameless and vile Harvey really was? He could spin his infidelity and cheating into a narrative so pure that it made me sick.I guessed it was true when people said that the only time a man was truly honest was when he was perfectly dead. With my free hand, I slapped him hard across the face and drove my knee straight into his groin. With a scream, he collapsed to the floor, clutching himself with colors draining from his face. The other men in the room winced in sympathetic pain and instinctively frowned, but I had to admit that the scream of a cheating jerk was music to my ears."Honey! Are you okay?" Georgina immediately threw herself over him and cried like her heart was breaking for him.I couldn't be bothered with the pair any longer, so I took Ava's hand and turned to leave.Harvey's voice, filled with pain and fury, came from behind me. "I'm your husband and Ava's dad, Madelyn! How dare you beat me up!"No matter how rich and pow

Landon led the group. Behind him were the head of Quantum Group's legal team and several board members who usually appeared only in financial news.Harvey's arrogance faltered the instant he saw them and was replaced by confusion. "Why are you here, Mr. Spencer?"As if struck by a sudden idea, he immediately put on a victim's act, pointed at me, and loudly complained, "Perfect timing! This woman is out of control! She's here to cause trouble and even had the audacity to claim she knows the chairman!"Trash like her is seriously damaging Quantum Group's reputation. Have the bodyguards throw her out at once!"Georgina quickly smoothed her rumpled clothes and sidled over coquettishly. "That's right, Mr. Spencer. I was absolutely terrified!"She hurt me, so you must seek justice for Mr. Hoffman and me.""Hear that? The real big shots are here!" Candice shrieked with glee. "You're just a crazy lunatic in cheap rags! Start counting the days until you're behind bars!"Landon swept a co

At my words, Harvey froze for a second before he burst into roaring laughter."That's hilarious! Did you just claim to have called my secretary, legal team, and board of directors? Have you been watching too many dramas that you lost your mind?"Georgina laughed along and swayed with glee. "Oh my, you scared me there. It seems like she's just a lunatic."Mental patients like her should be sent straight to the psychiatric hospital, Mr. Hoffman. We've got to make sure she doesn't traumatize the kids."Candice joined in the mockery. "Who are you trying to fool by putting on airs? If you're really that powerful, would your daughter be wearing knock-offs?"I coldly watched them perform. When I first built the kindergarten, I chose a location just a street away from Quantum Group Headquarters, just so I could conveniently drop off and pick up Ava from school. With Landon's efficiency, he should arrive in only five minutes. His arrival would serve as a hard slap in the faces of all the
