Chapter 7

Margot watched the two people in the living room.

She hated Tammy and did not want to spare her a single glance, but she couldn't sit still and watch Tammy try to steal her husband away.

Margot would not allow Tammy to take Curtis away—not on her watch.

Margot was clad in a thin sleeveless nightgown as she walked down.

Curtis watched as the petite Margot slowly descended. She looked delectable in her sensual nightgown.

His narrowed eyes focused on her nightgown. He frowned and reminded her unhappily, "Why aren't you wearing a jacket?"

Margot ignored him. She tried hard to control her anger as she walked toward Curtis.

Tammy watched as Margot approached them. She noticed Margot was wearing just a nightgown and had a pitiful expression on her face.

She suddenly realized she might have to put in more effort to deal with Margot.

"Curt, I'm not feeling well."

Margot stood beside Curt and pushed herself into his embrace.

She sat on his lap and stretched her arms over Curtis's neck as Tammy watched.

Curt wanted to pull away. But when he saw Margot's thin clothes, he decided to carry her.

He looked at Tammy and said, "She's still young and doesn't know better. Don't mind her."

While carrying Margot, he took a jacket off the coat rack.

Margot's petite body clung to Curtis as she rested her chin on his shoulders. She looked provocatively at Tammy. Tammy's expression was full of hate and jealousy.

Tammy always believed Curtis was indebted to her. Anything she wanted, Curtis would give her.

Even if she asked him to divorce Margot and marry her, Curtis wouldn't refuse.

But as she watched Curtis carry Margot to look for a jacket for her, she couldn't help but feel that she was wrong.

Why was Margot here? Did she come to watch them flirt?

Suddenly, Tammy felt a sense of shame and embarrassment.

Curtis found a jacket and helped Margot put it on. He looked at her and said, "Go back to sleep first. Don't make a scene."

Margot ignored him and tightened her arms around his neck. "I can't sleep. I want to cuddle with you."

"I need to talk to Tammy."

Curtis tried to pull away from her grasp.

"No!"

When he tried to pull away, Margot started muttering. She sounded like she was about to cry.

She whispered in his ear, "I don't want to, Curt. I won't disturb you two. Just let me hug you as you talk to her, alright?"

"That's not proper."

"How is it not proper? I'm your wife."

Curtis was speechless.

Everyone would describe Curtis as cruel and vicious. But no one knew he could not stand it when Margot whispered into his ear.

He could not let go of her. So, he carried her back to the sofa.

Margot noticed Curtis had relented. She lay on his shoulders and pretended to fall asleep.

Tammy never expected to see Curtis help Margot wear a jacket. She also did not expect him to carry her back.

She watched with a sharp gaze as Curtis held Margot in a tight embrace.

"Tammy, why don't you return to your room first? We can talk in the morning. She's been down with the flu recently, so she's quite clingy."

Tammy was speechless.

Could anyone understand her feelings now? Did she come over to get humiliated? No!

Curtis was her man. He was supposed to spend his whole life paying off his debts. Why was she destined for loneliness while he could get a wife?

Tammy could no longer bear a child. Therefore, Curtis had to also stay childless and accompany her.

Tammy gritted her teeth. She felt like she was about to go crazy from the hatred she felt.

But her rationality made her swallow her anger. She pretended to be the bigger person and said gently, "Alright, I'll go and rest. But Curtis, we will be husband and wife in the future. I hope you two will not act like this in front of me again."

She was slightly pissed as she followed Doris upstairs.

Margot glared at Tammy as Tammy walked up the stairs.

Tammy had said she and Curtis would be husband and wife in the future. Those words had hurt Margot deeply.

She angrily left Curtis's embrace and sat on the sofa.

Curtis stood in front of Margot. He was slightly exasperated as he said, "Margot, don't do such a thing again in the future."

Margot looked at him with teary eyes. She retorted, "What did I do? You are my husband. She's the mistress here. And also …"

"She is not."

Curtis interrupted Margot and sat down with a hardened expression.

"I owe her too much. I promised her the position of my wife a long time ago."

Margot felt like he had stabbed her in the heart. She tried hard to hold her emotions in. Her voice became low and hoarse.

"What do you owe her? Were you two in love back then?"

"It has nothing to do with love."

Curtis tried to change the subject. "It's getting late. Go back to the room and rest."

Margot was stunned.

It had nothing to do with love?

Was there never love between Curtis and Tammy in the first place? If there wasn't love between them, what did Curtis owe her?

Margot couldn't think of anything that could make Curtis do something he didn't want to.

But knowing Tammy was staying the night, she felt like she had eaten a piece of shit.

She looked at Curtis and asked, "So, was that how you planned on dealing with her? Did you even think of me when you asked her to stay?"

She didn't care about her identity, nor did she care if Curtis would marry her. Margot could not accept the fact that Tammy was staying here.

Who did that bitch think she was? How dare she act out in Margot's home?

Curtis looked at Margot in exasperation.

He sat beside her and said, "It's too late now. I'll ask her to leave tomorrow."

"Then, you are not allowed to contact her in the future. You promised you wouldn't divorce me."

Margot had always believed Curtis. She believed him unconditionally.

As long as he kept his promise and maintained his distance from Tammy, she would not throw a fit.

Curtis didn't know how to deal with her. He just answered, "Alright. I'll clear things up with her tomorrow."

Margot heaved a sigh of relief.

She wriggled into his embrace.

"I know you've given me enough. I shouldn't be greedy. I just want a proper family. I just want …"

She just wanted to give him a child and live happily with him.

Curtis held her in his arms. He was gut-wrenched as he listened to her sob while she spoke.

After a moment of silence, he carried her up the stairs.

"Alright, that's enough. Stop overthinking. Let's go back to our room."

Margot held his neck out of habit and lay her head on his shoulders. She replied shyly, "Okay."

Curtis woke up early the next day.

Tammy did, too.

There were only the two of them at the breakfast table.

As they were eating gracefully, Curtis began to speak.

"Since our agreed time is two years, I'll fulfill my promise two years later. During this time, don't bother me anymore!"
