Signed Over

I lay back on the bed staring at the ceiling and imagining different scenarios as a knock sounded on the door.

A knock?

I sat up immediately, my mind pondering as the knock sounded again and the door opened a little, and Elda's neatly packed head pushed in.

"Hello Miss", she announced, entering properly and closing the door behind her.

I stood, "Let me out".

"Unfortunately I can't do that", Elda said defiantly, smiling up at me. "I am to inform you that you'd be having dinner with the Master and his guests and to dress appropriate."

The gull, I seethed.

He had the fucking gull.

"I'm not eating anything from you or anyone", I screamed, directing my anger to the walls. Knowing he could hear me.

"There's a variety of dresses in the closet", Elda informed, talking on like she was a robot and I hadn't spoken.

"And the bathroom", she continued, pointing with her eyes to a door as identical as the maroon walls, "is over there".

"Dinner is by ten", she finished, smiling curtly before opening
