Corwin and Fenn lay side by side on the wooden platform, wrapped in a cloth the color of a Jaguar's fur, reserved for fallen Sentinels.

All forty-eight surviving members stood in two rows before the pyre. Their faces were hard with grief.

I watched the flames climb higher, swallowing the cloth, then the wood, then everything else.

~Two good men. Gone because of one hound.~

Serena's POVI was heading back to the dorm after the morning drills when Vessa walked up to me."I can see you're eager to rest. Can I talk to you about something for a minute?" she asked."Sure." I flashed her a small smile."It's about Mira," she said, lowering her voice. My stomach tightened at the name. "What about her?"Vessa pulled out her phone without answering and held it up to me.I stared at the screen and my whole body went cold.It was a picture. Me looking over my shoulder. And behind me, Mira, razor in hand, aiming for my hair."What? Is this real?""Of course it's real. Someone who knows you're close to me took it and sent it to me." Vessa said. "I wasn't sure if I should show you at first. I didn't want to stir up drama between you and Mira. But you deserve to know what your so-called friend has been doing behind your back."I kept staring at the picture, my mind spinning.~She cut my hair. Without asking. I remember that moment now. She tricked me to look back.~"Wh

Grimshaw's POVI woke up to the smell of leaves. My whole body ached like I'd been dragged on the ground, through different terrains for days.I tried to sit up and a sharp pain shot through my side, right where the blade had gone in.~That's right. I was stabbed.~I lay back down, breathing hard, staring at a wooden ceiling I didn't recognize. The walls looked strange. Yeah, I had never been here before. The room was small and dim, lit by a single candle on a table crowded with jars and bundled herbs. A fire crackled somewhere close, though I couldn't turn my head far enough to see it. My shirt was gone. Bandages wrapped tight around my ribs.Memories of my battle with the witches flashed in my mind. I was looking for the last Guardian, and the peers of the archivist showed up to ruin things. The door creaked open and a woman walked in carrying a bowl. She was short and thin. If I had to guess, I would say she was in her late forties. Her black robes flowed after her as she walked de

Mira's POVI was still enjoying my sleep when something landed on my bed. I jolted awake, heart lurching. My hand already reached for the blade I kept under my pillow. Then I saw what was on my bed. A black attire packed in a cellophane wrap. What's this?I rubbed up eyes and grabbed the package. T
