Stones Industry. The perfectly sculptured name stared at me from the top of the building while my heart pounded in my chest.

I held on tightly to my purse chain, my feet glued to the floor for almost 10 mins now. I can't even lie that I wasn't scared, but I really didn't have a choice.….

Let's get this over and done with.

“You do know she might be here soon, right?”

“You do know you're pissing me off, right?”

The baker, really?

From the moment he got back from that bakery, Michael had been on about the baker, and everything about her got on Duncan's last nerve.

He has never been one who knew how to control his temper and Michael seemed to be pushing his luck with him.

“Duncan, just listen to her”

“You seem to really want this marriage more than My Father. Is there a problem?”

Michael let out a defeated sigh and almost immediately, there was a knock on the door.

“Come in” the harsh reply echoed round the room.

The door was slowly pushed open by the company's secretary who came into view with Tori trailing behind her.

“Good morning, Mr Stones, Miss Hills is here. I was instructed to let her in by Mr Gail”

“Do you work for him?”

The secretary looked like she could melt at any minute under Duncan's cold gaze and sharp tone.

“I'm…I'm sorry, Sir”

“Get out” was all he said before turning back to his computer and like a mouse running away from a cat, the secretary was out of the office.

“This is exactly what your father was talking about”

Duncan turned his gaze to Michael who held the same poker expression he had on his face.

With nothing else to say to his friend, he turned his attention to Tori who stood like a mannequin displaying an outfit—a terribly cheap outfit, Duncan thought to himself.

“Miss Hills, please, come seat” Michael tapped on the seat beside him. It was obvious his friend wasn't ready to offer the lady a seat.

“Thank you” she faked a smile, hesitantly taking a seat “Good morning, Mr Stones”

Duncan slowly took his hands away from his keyboard, turning his seat so he was facing the young lady who intended to sign the contract with him.

He leaned his back towards his chair, his elbow resting on his arm rest while he slowly examined the baker.

From the way her pale blonde hair sat in a bun to the way her emerald green eyes refused to meet his. The clearly uncomfortable way she shifted in her chair and the way she held on to her bag like he would have any need for it if he actually stole it.

The lady was nothing like the usual women he goes for, but, there was a part of him that pushed him towards accepting her, it pushed him a lot…..the part of himself he hated the most.

“Give me one good reason I should consider you for this contract?”

Tori finally locked eyes with him, straightening herself on her seat “it’s….it’s a contract marriage where both parties are meant to gain one thing from the other. I'm not getting in the way of anything you're doing. I won't interfere with your daily activities nor your way of living, I just need the money. I really really need the money.”

“What for?” He suddenly asked “if I'm signing a contract with you, I should at least know your intentions towards signing it”

She took in a deep breath, her shoulders dropping slightly “My father's dying. He has a stage 2 heart failure and he needs transplant so it doesn't get worse. I can barely keep up with his treatments and that alone is enough to worsen the situation. I need to help him”

The room was quite for what felt like hours. She looked up at her possibly husband-to-be, but there wasn't a single readable expression on his face. His grey eyes searched her face slightly while he was positioned on his chair, looking like a Greek god on his throne.

“Duncan” his friend called out to him, in a way trying to get through to him.

Duncan turned his gaze to his desk drawer, pulling it open and taking out the contract. He tossed it on the table, the document landing in front of Tori.

“I'm not doing this because I pity you, I'm doing this because you promised not to get in my way and I love my peace.”

She shook her head vigorously “I won't”

“Good. You've read it so you should know it's a 5 million dollars contract for a marriage that spans up to 6 months. My father wants me to get a wife before he can hand over the company to me, that's why this whole thing is on. Right after the fake marriage license is acquired, I'll finalize things with him and I'll give you 50% of your money. In order not to make things seem weird, we'll keep this up for 6 months and right after, I'll give you what's left and we'll end all of this. Understood?”

She nodded “understood”

He picked up a pen from his desk, pushing it over to her and without hesitation, she signed on the last page of the contract, handing it over to him and he as well placed his signature before closing the document shut.

“We're getting the fake marriage license tomorrow and you're moving in with me by weekend, get yourself ready.”

If only she knew he didn't just mean getting ready by packing up.

I gently wiped the lip gloss I had applied on my lip. My eyes darted to the mirror in front of me as I proceeded to wiping my eye liner as well.It was a long night.I let out a sigh and tossed the wipe away before washing my face and heading out the bathroom.I couldn't explain what annoyed me the most, the fact that I let that lady make me feel so uncomfortable, or the fact that I convinced Duncan not to do anything about it.It would have been bad if I had let him handle things the way he knew how to—with his temper. But, allowing him do things his way may worsen his Father's image of him and ruin the partnership along side.I pulled my hair into a pony tail and picked up my phone before heading outside the room.I placed a small knock on Duncan's door, slowly pushing it open and poking my head in as usual. My eyes landed on him standing in front of his drink table, holding a glass in his hand as always—also, he was very much shirtless.“I'm sorry, I didn't…”“You're not seeing me

Every second that passed by, Duncan go even more uninterested in the conversation he was forced to partake in with his father and his overnight business partners. He couldn't explain if he was overthinking it, but he could have sworn that he heard Tori calling for him—it was as though she wanted him to come back.He had heard it three times, but everytime he tried to speak with her through her thoughts, the music clowded his ability to concentrate.Every minute that passed made him uneasy. He glazed at his watch on his wrist and it was past 8 pm—perfect time to leave. He gave his father a light tap on his shoulder, leading him away from the rest.Steven excused himself and followed after his son, “what's the matter?”“I've been here long enough, I think it's time for me to leave.”Steven looked at his watch with a frown on his face, “it's still quite early, Duncan.” He turned to him, “you barely said anything all night. You didn't join in our conversation, you haven't interacted with

My ears were met with a calm fancy music, the ones usually played in occasions filled with wealthy people and well...fancy people. I let out a small gasp as my eyes scanned the large bright hall. it was lit with orange lights that bounced off the white painted wall, causing the gold designs around the room to illuminate perfectly. People were scattered all around, chattering and exchanging pleasantries. My jaw almost touched the ground as I observed different outfits that just screamed expensive without having to try. "I was starting to think you weren't going to show up." Duncan's father came into sight, his wife standing beside him looking as beautiful as she always did. "I didn't see a need to hurry." Duncan responded as we came to a stop in front of them. "oh Tori, darling, you look beautiful." She turned her gaze to me, a grin displayed on her face. "So do you Ma'am. I really love your dress." I confessed. She had on a gold flowing dress which sparkled under the light just

I had my eyes glued to my dinner dress for what felt like hours and every second that past, I lost more interest in going. The thought of being in the same room with people I knew nothing about, people I had no business meeting, and people that may or may not look down on me, made goosebumps form on my skin.I was seated in front of my dress table, my knee bouncing up and down in nervousness. A small knock on my door pulled me back to reality. I pushed myself up the chair and towards the door."You're not ready, dear?" Lydia asked the moment I opened up."I um...not...not yet."She let out a sigh, "what's the problem?""I don't... I'm not sure I want to go." I confessed."Why don't you just tell Duncan?""Because, I already told him I'd go." I hated going back on my words."Listen dear, you don't have to mingle, you don't have to try to fit in, you don't have to impress anyone. Just go there, representing yourself as Duncan's wife. No one has to make you feel out of place. Okay, Dear

“Um Lucy, let me…let me call you back.” I hung up the phone, my eyes still locked on Lydia. “Mrs Stones wants to see me?”She nodded. “You're who she came to see.”Okay, that wasn't weird at all.“O…Kay?” I pushed myself up the bed and followed behind Lydia as we walked out the room.Immediately I got down the stairs, her perfume hit my nostrils, the air filled entirely.A smile formed on her face as soon as she saw me. “Tori.”“Hello…Mrs Stones.” I made my way towards where she was seated. She tapped beside her and I took my seat. “How've you been? It's been a while since I last saw you.” She asked, a faint smile displayed on her face.“I've been just fine, Ma. We've both been busy, so it's fine.”“Exactly, my dear. How's Duncan?”It was really nice that she doesn't know how her was doing.“He's been fine. Was expecting you'd be back to check how he was recovering.” “Oh darling, I really wanted to. I had an early trip to make. But I made sure I called all the time.”I nodded with

  • LOVE, CONTRACT AND SECRETS   Chapter 55

My eyes kept scanning the bag, confused on which to open.I packed all the bags to my room because I somehow felt I was going to see something or things that would cause me to scream.I just trusted Duncan that much.I pulled one to the bed beside where I sat. I pulled out three large boxes that looked like shoe boxes.I let out a sigh before pulling one of the boxes open—my breath got stuck in my throat immediately.“Oh…oh my…” I stuttered, my finger tips hesitant to touch the stone encrusted shoe I was staring at.My eyes were hooked on it, words unable to formulate. I picked up one leg like I was holding a crate of eggs. “Holy shit.” I whispered. “Am I suppose to…how can he…”The covered toe heels had silver crystals all over it with a large clear crystal at the top like a brouch. “Jimmy choo?” I looked at the brand. “Oh there's no way.” I looked into the box and realized there was a matching crystal encrusted clutch as well.I quickly placed the shoe back and opened the rest and
