"Come in," Trevor responded after we heard a knock on the door. I had already stepped down from the bed and was sitting on the sofa.
The door was pushed open and the soldier whom we were now acquainted with walked into the room. He smiled and Trevor and I reciprocated the smile.
"Should I punch it?" he joked while pointing his tightened fists toward Trevor's injured shoulder.
"You can as well try." Trevor replied. They both laughed and the soldier sat beside the bed. He was wearing casual outfits and was looking cheerful.
"You are a man indeed. You are looking totally fine."
"I'm glad I am responding to treatment."
"I just came from the doctor's office. I was sent by the office to settle the bills and find out if you need anything." the soldier reported.
Trevor and I exchanged glances. "I'm g
Now that they are out of the hospital...what next?
We stepped out of the hospital and inhaled the fresh early morning air. We were out of there for good. Trevor heaved a deep sigh and led me into a taxi. "Where did you get money from?" I asked after we stepped into the taxi. "Shouldn't you be asking me how we were able to come by taxi at such an hour instead? Aren't we lucky people?" he replied. "This isn't some remote village. Cars can operate 24/7." I retorted. "Behind the hospital is an A T M machine." began Trevor. "Where to?" demanded the taxi driver while adjusting the mirror. "Take us to the farthest hotel from here." Trevor told him. I pulled his arm and let go of it immediately he groaned. "Sorry. Farthest hotel?" I whispered.
I opened my eyes and rolled over to the side Trevor laid earlier. He wasn't there. I sprung out of the bed and heard the splashing of water from the bathroom. Trevor was taking a bath. I heaved a deep sigh and sat by the edge of the bed. Trevor walked out of the bathroom with a towel tied across his waist. "You are awake." he hinted and opened the small luggage back. "Good morning." I greeted and stretched my arms. "It's a few minutes to 6 am and seeing that you were having a sound sleep, I decided to get ready before waking you up." Trevor told me after pulling on trousers and a brown tee-shirt from the bag. "I'll freshen up." I said and headed to the bathroom. When I returned, Trevor was already dressed and a food tray was set on the bed "Here." He said and flung the bag at me. I grabbed it and returned to
"Is everyone on board?" came the driver's voice after he horned. He was ready for take-off and the passengers were beginning to settle in the luxury bus. I was seated next to the passenger who was seated next to him. No one spoke. "I guess all passengers are already on board and ready for taking off." he concluded out loud. Then someone from behind moved to where the driver was and soon, they were talking in low tunes. "Let me clear some issue with my friend here. We will hit the road shortly." the driver apologised and turned off the car engine, bringing the already warmed up car to a stand. The impatient passengers began to murmur. I counted the thousand naira notes Trevor had earlier given me to feed and there were ten of them which was enough to feed me for a week. Then thousand naira. I smiled inwardly and thanked the stars for con
The luxury bus Trevor and I boarded to Greenland left the park past 8 am. Trevor had stated that the journey was to last for six hours so, by 3 pm, I was hoping we would be in Greenland. I slowly opened my eyes and sat up. Trevor woke up earlier than I. He smiled as I rubbed my drowsy eyes with the edge of my palms. "Why is the bus not moving?" I asked after stretching my arms. "Hope everything is okay." I sharply added. Trevor chuckled. He knew my concern over the bus not moving was justified. "Everything is fine." he replied. "You guys have ten minutes please, so hurry and return else I'll leave. I don't mind leaving some of you behind." the driver maintained with a scream. All of these luxury bus drivers possess the same attitude I thought.
The driver drove into the park after reducing the car's speed. He carefully climbed the interlocks leading into the spot luxury busses were parked and safely parked the vehicle. "Finally!" I exclaimed and smiled brightly. The supposed 2-day journey which lasted for a week finally came to an end that afternoon. The passengers began to make their way out of the bus. Some who stayed behind were trying to pull out their items of luggage from the compartment where luggage was kept inside the bus. Trevor and I had no luggage so we stepped down hand in hand. I was holding the small luggage bag in my arms. We stepped out of the bus and when our feet touched the ground, I felt the cold breeze. "This is 3 pm and it's cold here," I commented. Back in Numan, I was certain the unruly sun was still at work. "This is Greenland. Everything here seems to be different." Tre
Trevor and I stepped into PLOT 22. My left hand was locked up in Trevor's so I could feel how it was trembling. "Relax!" I whispered into his left ear. He heaved a deep sigh and knocked on the large brown gate. "Who is that?" came a husky voice just when Trevor was about to knock on the gate the second time. A huge man with a scary face lifted a square little opening via the gate from the inside and placed his eyes via the opening. He gave us the look that says 'I don't know you . The man opened the gate and was soon standing before us. "Who are you looking for?" he asked in what seemed like a rude voice. I gaze up at his intimidating figure. He was physically built and could pass for a 40-year-old man. He was black. "I.....we...Is Mr King?" Trevor stammered. Not a good start for someone who wan
After Stephanie hung up the call, I moved to the bed and began opening the shopping bags Clara had earlier dropped on the bed. There was a bag full of clothes and when I took the clothes out, I was amazed that they will all fit in even though I was yet to try them on. The other bag was loaded with simple shoes while in the third bag, there was a cream, lotion, some cosmetics and other things ladies will require. I smiled and pulled out a blue gean trousers and a blue polo shirt from the first bag. After getting dressed, I wore black flat shoes which matched my shirt. I rolled my hair in a ponytail form and stepped out of the room. "Come in," Trevor responded after I knocked on the door to his room. I carefully pushed the door open and stepped into the room. Trevor was dressed in a fine grey sweater over black gean trousers.
Trevor and his father were back in the living room staring at each other without a word. Trevor decided to break the awkward silence between them. "How is your health?" he asked after clearing his throat loudly. "Well, as you can see," the old man replied pointing to himself. "I'm alive and breathing. That's all that matters." he added with a smile. "What do the doctors say? " Trevor further inquired. "They want me to undergo a kidney transplant by the end of the month. We are still looking for a match." he replied slowly and tried to stretch his hands. "I wish you all the best." Trevor replied and lowered his head. "How's your mother?" "She's fine. She's doing good and she sends her regards." "She still works at the Lifeline clinic?" his father a
