Maya's POV

"Maya, I've been teaching for eight years. I've had hundreds of students, some brilliant, some beautiful, some both. I've never felt anything inappropriate for any of them. What I feel for you isn't about forbidden thrills or midlife excitement."

"Then what is it about?"

"It's about the way you see the world. Your courage, your integrity, your refusal to accept injustice even when fighting it costs you everything." He reached across the table and took my hand. "I love your mind, your spirit, your heart. I love who you are when no one else is watching."

Tears pricked my eyes. "But we can't be together. Not really. Your career-"

"Is already over," he said simply. "They'll never let me back into my old department. I'll probably never teach healing and herbalism again. But Maya, I need you to know that if I had to choose between my career and knowing you, I'd choose you every time."

I squeezed his hand, my heart breaking a little. "Ronan..."

"You don't have to say anything. I

Maya's POV The silence that followed was answer enough.Marcus cleared his throat. "Maya, if you refuse, the university has grounds to mandate a psychological evaluation. Given the reports and your current behavior, they could argue you're a danger to yourself or others.""I'm not dangerous," I whispered."Then prove it," Marcus said. "Take the leave voluntarily. Show everyone you're taking your mental health seriously."I wanted to scream. I wanted to rage against the unfairness of it all. But I could see the trap closing around me, refuse and be forced into evaluation, accept and prove Victoria right about my instability."Can I have some time to think about it?" I asked.Dean Matthews nodded. "You have until tomorrow morning to decide. In the meantime, campus security will be monitoring your movements for your own safety."The words hit me like a physical blow. "You're putting me under surveillance?""For your protection," Mom said quickly. "Just until we know you're okay."I stoo

Maya's POVI knew something was wrong the moment I walked into the dining hall for breakfast. The usual buzz of conversation died down as students turned to stare at me, their expressions a mixture of pity and concern that made my skin crawl. Some looked away quickly when I met their eyes, while others whispered behind their hands, their gazes following my every movement."Maya!" Quinn rushed over, her face pale with worry. "Oh my God, I've been trying to call you all morning. Are you okay?""I'm fine," I said slowly, confused by the panic in her voice. "Why wouldn't I be?"Quinn grabbed my arm, pulling me toward an empty corner. "You haven't seen it yet, have you? The posts?"My stomach dropped. "What posts?"She pulled out her phone with shaking hands, scrolling through what looked like a campus forum. The thread title made my blood run cold: "URGENT: Maya Cross Showing Concerning Behavior - Wellness Check Needed."I snatched the phone from her hands, my eyes scanning the posts with

Victoria's POV"Videos of her public breakdowns, witness statements from other students about concerning behavior, records of academic performance decline, evidence of increasingly poor judgment in her personal relationships." I was making half of it up, but I needed him to believe Maya was genuinely dangerous."I see. And you believe she needs to be removed from the university environment?""For her own safety, yes. And potentially for the safety of others. Maya has been making increasingly erratic decisions, targeting people she sees as enemies, building alliances with individuals who may not have her best interests at heart. I'm afraid she might do something she can't take back."The silence stretched so long I wondered if the call had disconnected. When Marcus finally spoke, his voice had changed completely. Gone was the concerned uncle; in its place was something cold and calculating."Miss Sterling, these are very serious allegations you're making about my niece. You're suggesti

Victoria's POVI paced across my penthouse dorm suite, my designer heels clicking against the marble floor with each agitated step. The private investigator I'd hired to monitor Maya's activities had just delivered news that made my blood run cold: Maya Blackwood and Lyra Brooks had been meeting secretly with Isabella Rodriguez, the meddlesome student body president who'd been asking too many questions about university finances. My perfectly manicured hands trembled as I scrolled through the photos on my phone. There they were, huddled together in the student government conference room with laptops and documents spread across the table. They looked like conspirators planning a revolution, which was exactly what they were doing."Damn it," I muttered, throwing my phone onto my Italian leather couch.Everything I'd worked for, everything I'd carefully orchestrated over the past months, was in jeopardy. I'd been so close to completely destroying Maya's reputation and clearing the path fo

Isabella's POV The room went quiet as the implications sank in. Maya stared at my laptop screen, processing what she was seeing."Why should we trust you?" she asked. "How do we know you won't just take our information and publish a story that destroys what's left of my privacy?"Fair question. I'd been expecting it."Because destroying you serves no purpose," I said honestly. "You're the victim here, not the villain. The real story isn't 'unstable students have breakdown’, its 'wealthy family uses university resources to systematically torment scholarship students.' One story makes you look bad. The other makes you look like a survivor of something horrible."Maya was studying my face, clearly trying to decide if she could trust me. "And what do you get out of this?""Recognition as a serious journalist who can handle complex investigations. A story that could win awards and launch my career. And," I paused, "the satisfaction of taking down rich bullies who think they can buy their

Isabella Rodriguez's POVWhile most students were still sleeping off last night's parties or cramming for finals, I was already three cups of coffee deep and halfway through reviewing the budget discrepancies that had been bothering me for weeks.Being student body president wasn't just about organizing homecoming events and mediating dorm disputes. Not for me, anyway. I'd run on a platform of transparency and accountability, promising to dig into the university's shadier practices. Most students had voted for me because I looked good on paper, first-generation college student, scholarship kid, editor of the campus newspaper. They probably thought I'd be grateful enough for the opportunity to keep my head down and play nice. They were wrong.I was knee-deep in financial records when my phone buzzed with a notification from the campus gossip app. Another video of Maya Blackwood, this time collapsing at the Spring Festival while three men fought over her like she was a prize to be won.
