Adrian's POV

Tim's voice dropped. "Then what?"

I clenched my jaw. "Then everything I'm hiding comes out."

"What exactly are you hiding, Sir?"

I looked at him for a long time.

"Tim, you've worked for me for five years. Have I ever lied to you?"

"Not that I know of."

"Then trust me when I say this. There are things in this house that, if exposed, would destroy more than my name."

His eyes sharpened. "Scarlett?"

I said nothing.

He leaned forward. "Sir, am I allowed to ask what she has on you?"

Adrian's POVSince Isabella left, my mother has been disturbing me for four days now. She kept asking me whether I had found her.Found her?"Mother, we are divorced.""I don't care what the paper says."She walked away before I could answer. I sat there until midnight, staring at the wall. Now it was morning, and I still had no answers from Tim and Mark.I pressed the intercom. "Send in Mr. Tim and Mark Donald."They came in fast. Mark kept his eyes on the floor. Tim stood straight, but his jaw was tight. That told me everything before either of them spoke."Report," I said.Tim cleared his throat. "Sir, we are still working on it."“Working on it. For how long?”"I gave you an assignment. Find Isabella. How hard is it to find her?""She doesn't use her old phone, sir. No bank card. No taxi app. It's like she's trying to disappear.""She is not trying," I said. "She is succeeding. That is the problem."Mark shifted on his feet. Tim didn't. He looked at me for a long moment, and I kne

Isabella's POV "Which country did you choose?"Julian hesitated. "Japan. Tokyo first, then wherever she wants after.""No one we know is there."I couldn't stay quiet anymore. "Excuse me. Am I invisible?"Both men turned."You're discussing my life like I'm a parcel," I said. "You're picking where I go, when I go, and what name I use. Doesn't anyone want to ask what I think?"Julian's jaw tightened. "Isabella—""No. Let me finish." My voice shook. Do you ask me if I want to go?” Silence stretched between us.Uncle Cole set down his pen. He looked at me for a long time, and then, very slowly, he looked at Julian."You haven't told her?""Isabella, I'm doing this for your good.” Julian said."Wait until I accept before you proceed with the process.”“Don't worry, everything will be fine.” Julian murmured as he looked at Uncle.Uncle just nodded at him."Isabella, my dear. I heard about the divorce, and your brother is right in this decision.” Uncle said.My heart pounded. Right? I jus

Isabella's POV "You are." He insisted."I have things I need to finish here. I have—" I stopped. I had almost said it, Adrian. His name sat on my tongue like a stone. The pregnancy.Julian noticed. Of course, he noticed. His face went still."Isabella," he said quietly. "Everything you think you have here is not what it seems.""That's not an answer.""It's the only one I can give you tonight."I pushed back my chair. "Then give me a better one."He didn't move.I glared at him. He glared back. Neither of us blinked. Finally, he reached into the pocket of his jacket, which hung over the back of his chair, and pulled out a thin folder. He slid it across the table."Open it."My fingers were cold as I lifted the cover.Inside was a passport. My photo. My name. But the date of birth was not there. Of course, my father's name is correct.Underneath it was a flight itinerary, one way, departing in three days."Julian," I breathed, "whose name is this?"He looked at me with a face I had ne

Isabella's POVThe cream sweater felt like a lie against my skin.I walk to the living room for a few minutes.I stood there steady, staring at Julian, my brother who is on call. The long table was covered in food. Steaming rice, roasted chicken, soup in a silver bowl, fried plantains and a pile of warm bread. Amara moved around it, fixing a spoon here, a napkin there. When she saw me, her hands froze.I gave her the smallest nod. I won't say anything. Her shoulders dropped with relief.Julian stood by the window with his phone in his ear, his back to me. His voice was calm and low."Yes. I understand. No, tell Mr. Cole I will bring her myself."My feet stopped.Mr. Cole.Papa's lawyer. The man who sat at our dinner table every Sunday when I was small. The man who slipped me peppermint candy under the tablecloth when Mama wasn't looking. The only person Papa trusted with his signature."Thank you," Julian said. "I'll be waiting, Uncle."He ended the call and turned around. The moment

Isabella's POV "Drive," I repeated. The man stepped toward my window. His hand reached for the door handle. And then, on the pole behind him, the red light blinked.Once.Twice.Green.Julian didn't wait. He hit the gas, and the car shot forward like it had been thrown. The barrier arm swung up, the cones scattered, and the officer jumped back with a shout. I screamed as the engine roared and the road disappeared under us."GO, GO, GO!" I cried."I'm going!"In the mirror, the men were running to their cars. Headlights flared behind us, one pair, then another.Julian's knuckles were white. His eyes were wild. "How did they know?" he shouted. "I told no one! No one!"I gripped the dashboard, shaking. The car turned sharply behind a tall black gate. Julian parked without a word. The engine went quiet. My hands stayed tight in my lap, the way they had been the whole ride."You're too afraid," Julian said. He turned in his seat and looked straight at me.I almost laughed. "I'm not afraid

Isabella's POV "Julian, stop."My brother froze with my bag in his hand. The receptionist's words were still ringing in my ears: *He hasn't taken his eyes off the entrance.*"I'm not staying here," I said. "Not one more minute.""I wasn't going to let you." He glanced at the glass doors. "Stay behind me.""No." I caught his sleeve. "If Adrian sends anybody here, he knows where I am. If he knows where I am, he can walk in here any time. I can't see his face, Julian. I can't."Julian's jaw tightened. He looked at me for a long second, and the anger in his eyes softened into something worse. Pity."Listen to me," he said quietly. "I already dealt with that fool."I blinked. "What?""Adrian. I called him on my way here." He gave a cold little smile. "I told him that if he, his men, or his shadow near my sister again, he would learn what a brother can do."My heart pounded. "What did he say?""Nothing I wanted to hear." He shrugged, but his voice was shaking a little. "He said you were st
