"Is something wrong?" Vanessa asked, noticing the brief change in his focus.

"No," Jason said, flashing her a quick, easy smile. "Just enjoying the drive."

They drove for a few blocks, and the comfortable silence from lunch settled between them.

Jason made a left tune turn smoothly. A few seconds later, he checked the mirror. The black SUV made the same turn.

He kept driving, seemingly relaxed. He made a right turn at the next light. And after a few seconds, he looked through the rearview mirror and saw that the SUV followed them still.

A small, quiet chuckle escaped him. He wasn't just being paranoid. He definitely had someone following him. Maybe they weren't just after him, could well be against Vanessa too or just her.

Vanessa looked over at him, her brow furrowing. "Okay, what's wrong? You've been acting strange since we left. And now you're laughing at nothing."

"Nothing," he said again, smiling at her. "Just realized I forgot something."

She gave him a look, "Weirdo." But the

Jason's smile returned, more guarded now but still friendly. He had thought she would have stopped asking him about himself by now. Still, he had to admit it was only fair. If he was going to ask her questions and try to know her, then she had just as much right to do the same. Besides, what did it matter? If everything went according to plan, she would soon be his wife. And she deserved to know the real name of the man she was going to marry.‘Soon, I will tell her,’ he thought. He leaned forward slightly, his eyes holding hers with an intensity that made her pulse quicken. "Right now?" he said, raising his glass of water in a mock toast. "I'm having lunch with a brilliant woman who deserves better than corporate small talk. And for today, that's more than enough."The deflection was smooth, practiced, but Vanessa was not satisfied with that answer. Why couldn't he tell her anything about him, just anything? It didn't help that he was deliberately so mysterious. ---As their meal

“It’s not a date,” she snapped back without hesitation. But then the thought lingered, catching her off guard. Why couldn’t it be a date? Did it even matter if it was or not? He was her fiancé, after all, so there was nothing wrong with them going out on dates. She exhaled, the fight slipping from her shoulders. “Call it want you want. But i wanted to thank you, Jason.” The words came out uneven, almost stammered, like gratitude was a language she was still struggling to learn."For what? Agreeing to eat?""For the Sterling Enterprises deal," she replied, holding his gaze with an intensity that made something shift in his chest. "For saving Smith Royale from bankruptcy and financial difficulties. For saving my family.""It's thanks to you that I can afford a place like this again. That we can afford anything again."And then it happened. It wasn't a polite press of the lips or a calculated smirk. It was a rare, genuine smile that lit up her features and reached her eyes, transformin

The meeting had gone well, and Jason had been part of it. It was something that the smith family would never allow normally. But now that they knew he was probably a rich person, they had no issues with him. Hell, lady Smith even asked him if he wanted to have a position in the company, as one of the shareholder. Jason turned her down, since he really didn't see any use in that. He was already rich, and getting shares in smith royale seemed like a waste of time he didn't have in his line of work. Jason and Vanessa walked back into her office after leaving the meeting. Vanessa let out a long sigh as she slumped back into her chair for just a second. Jason, who had been a quiet observer by the door, finally moved forward. "Well," he said, breaking the silence. "Your family seems to now approve of us." Although he already knew the reason behind their sudden approval, Jason didn’t want to dwell on it. All that mattered was fulfilling his master’s wish. For that, he was willing to for

All he could see was Jason’s calm, victorious smirk. All he could hear was the thud of his own knee hitting the carpet and kneeling on Jason's feet, In front of all those people. All he could feel was the burning shame of those whispers. He saw it out of the corner of his eye, a sleek, modern, stainless steel trash can, standing innocently by the elevator bank. It was a symbol of the very office, the very company, that had just watched him kneel."GGRRAAAH!” He let out a guttural groan from his chest as he ran at the trash can. He didn’t just shove it—he hauled his foot back and kicked with all his strength. If only he could kick Jason that hard; Charlie was dying to try. The heavy can went flying, smashing against the opposite marble wall with a loud, echoing CLANG. It vomited its contents, used coffee cups, crumpled memos, banana peels, in a disgusting spray across the pristine floor. The sound was shockingly loud in the otherwise quiet executive hallway.Instantly, heads popped up

Charlie’s hands, braced on the floor, were shaking with anger and shame. He pushed himself up, his movements stiff and uncoordinated. He didn’t dare look at anyone, not Jason, not his grandmother, and definitely not the board members. How could he look at anyone right now when he had been humiliated more than he had ever been in his whole life? But he could hear them. The second he was off his knees, the suffocating silence he’d been drowning in cracked and gave way to a low, infectious buzz of murmurs, whispers and stiffled laughs . It was the sound of a scandal being born, and he was its centerpiece."…good lord, did that just happen?""…never thought I’d see the day. Charlie Smith...""He actually knelt…""And called him 'Sir'! Twice!""My goodness, who is this Jason Wolfe?"Charlie’s face, which had been a dark, blotchy red, now felt like it was actively on fire. He could feel every single pair of eyes on him, not with fear or respect, but with a humiliating mixture of pity and
