Jake's sacrifice

' Hunter!' As though they had the same thought, they both shared a glance with a short expression of shock on their identical faces before frowning as they hurriedly looked around in thought of where to hide.

Realizing that the light came from behind them and was drawing near the more they stood around, they both shared an expression of fear and bewilderment before they hurried their pace and delved deeper into the woods.

' Dammit, I couldn't help but jinx it!' Jake cursed in his mind. He forgot about the pain from his wounds as he pushed himself to run with Erik's support.

They both knew the crazy hunter had followed them and was in pursuit. One thing remained in both brother's mind, " Run!"

Erik and Jake had both experienced the cruelty of the hunter. He'd killed their friends back in the city earlier, and they had only been able to escape due to the numbers. Jake got injured as a result of this as he was shot by the same hunter. They thought that was all and had thanked their fate that they were able to escape. Erik and Jake went to hide at Paulo's pub for a while to gather their thoughts as to what to do next before they came up with the plan to move into the woods and find a safer place to hide. Who knew the crazy hunter would come after them still!?

Erik and Jake's heart raced wildly as they rushed through the woods, causing dried leaves to rustle and twigs to snap beneath their feets. They wouldn't dare to face the hunter knowing they would most definitely lose their lives. They could only run and hope to escape, there wasn't any other option!

" Run brother! Run!" Erik urged with alertness!

However, the flash of light kept getting closer the more they tried to escape and it was evident that little remained before they were found.

" It's that fella isn't it, he's-- He's tracing us!" Jake let out in an angered tone as they rushed forward. He was injured and thus, their pace was greatly reduced because of him. He was frustrated at himself and he feared that if the hunter caught up with them, he'd be the cause of their downfall.

' Ah fuck! I have to do something. At this rate we'll we'll... That's right!'

" Brother, he can't keep following for long. Let's just keep going at this pace and hope he turns away from us" Erik stated without putting a stop to their run, his feet crushed several tree twigs and he brushed past several leaves and bushes as he hurriedly dragged Jake along with him with every ounce of strength he had left in him in their dash forward. His face was as pale as a sheet and he was in an obvious state of panic.

" Stop!" Jake suddenly pushed Erik and though, he struggled to balance and staggered, he still managed to stand.

Erik who had just caught hold of himself from the sudden push, quickly rose and roared in fury ,

" What the hell is wrong with you, we'll die if-"

" Not anymore brother!" Jake shook his lowered head. His tone seemed broken and hesitant, yet resolute

" Not at this rate... we'll both die!" Jake's tone shook as he shot his hanging head up, staring the obvious in a panicky tone.

It was no telling that they both weren't getting anywhere near escaping the hunter.

Both brothers stared at each other, the panic in their eyes were unhidden from themselves even in the darkness.

Erik was well aware of what Jake meant with his words. He became silent and fell in contemplation , unsure of what to do or say. He was stuck between staying with his brother or leaving him. He understood that the latter was what Jake wished, but how could he?

" We can't just stand here and wait for death to come, we have to keep going at least!" Just as he motioned to say this, Jake stated in a very low tone,

"Go!"

Erik opened his mouth in shock at his brother's sudden statement. Not because he was shocked that Jake would say this but at his mind which screamed to listen to his brother at the moment. Was it due to his fear of death that he was willing to dump his brother?!

Erik wouldn't be hypocritical and say that it was rather his instinct and not him. In the first place, the thought should have never crossed his mind. ' What if it had been me in the place of Jake, would Jake have left me?'

Erik fell in thought as his fear overwhelmed him. He feared leaving his brother to death, and he feared staying to die with him! Erik didn't know what to do!

" No!" Erik shook his head and exclaimed to get these thoughts off his mind. His reddened eyes shook in desperation with tears threatening to break loose out of them.

" You have to understand there's no hope for me, Erik! Leave now, and live..." Jake moved near him in a stagger and grasped Erik by the neck as he stated in a hoarse shaky tone, looking straight into his brother's eyes.

They had both always been together, ever since they became orphaned. Jake being the elder was protective of Erik, as a result, he couldn't bear to see him die. That too being his fault as he was unable to escape with him due to his injury.

"N-no, I can't possibly-"

" Leave now!" Jake roared and forcefully threw Erik by the collar.

The latter who quickly rolled up after crashing on the ground was left stupefied amidst his scare. He stared at Jake with a gaze full of doubt and extreme fear as he slowly stood up. His whole being trembled as tears rolled out of his eyes.

He didn't want to leave Jake!

However, when he saw another flash of the bright light that seemed very close, his body reacted in a tremble as he rushed through the woods in an insane sob.
