A Demon's Rage

Kate walked into the mansion, fascinated with everything she saw. The beautiful large fountain at the center of the compound, and the smaller one in the garden added to the beauty of the mansion.

The beautiful flowers and the well_trimmed fields that surrounded the fountain gave it a peaceful warm look.

Her head bobbled as she continued gawking at everything she saw. The mansion was beautifully carved with intricate designs.

The golden bull sculpture that stood beside the two tall pillars at the entrance of the mansion glittered as the light touched it.

Kate's joy was cut off when she was stopped by a middle-aged man. His stubble mustache and protruded stomach made him look like a blubber belly.

Kate bit her lips to stop herself from laughing at her wild imaginations. The man stood gauging at her from head to toe.

"I'm Patrick the butler of the house, how may I help you? Do you have an appointment with Madam?".

Oh, so many questions Kate thought "I'm Kate and I'm here to deliver this," she said raising the bag in her hand.

The butler stared at her before looking at her hand suspiciously "what's in there?"

Oh, these people have some trust issues, just because I'm not dressed in some fancy clothes "This is the linen Madam Castrol ordered to be delivered today" Kate said.

Patrick seemed to remember something as he turned around before saying "follow me."

The butler pushed the huge door open like it was cotton. Kate knew if she tried to open that door, she would use all her might to do so. Can someone old push that strong door effortlessly? Or maybe he's one of the night creatures! they were said to have immense strength.

Kate began to stay warry of her environment. But the man had black eyes and she didn't see any fang when he talked, could they be able to hide it?

"Wait here, I'll get the madam," Patrick said before turning to take his left. He took the huge stairs before disappearing into one of the hallways.

Kate took in everything she saw inside the mansion. The mansion was even more beautiful inside than outside, she thought. The black decor gave it a tenebrous eerie feeling, but somehow she loved it.

Soon she heard the sound of footsteps clicking on the polished marble floor. She guessed it to be Madam Castrol.

When the butler and the Madam came into view, she was stunned to see a beautiful young woman. She had expected to see some old shaggy woman. Oh yes the red eyes, the night creatures barely aged.

"You must be from Rosie's shop" the woman's voice came out to be sweet in her ears but she didn't miss the way her tone sounded prideful.

"Yes, I'm Kate" Kate bowed as she took a step back from the daunting woman.

"You brought the linen?" Madam Castrol asked sitting down on the sofa.

"Yes," Kate brought out the linen from her bag and gave it to Castrol.

Madam Castrol took the linen and examined it, feeling the texture "Fine linen I see. This is good" She seemed happy and satisfied with the linen.

"Tell her I would need more of this in the upcoming weeks, let's say by the end of next month"

"Yes, I will. Glad to hear you liked it" Kate said politely.

The woman smiled "Yes I do. Wait for your payment" Madam Castrol took the linen with her after instructing the butler to give her the money.

The butler returned after some minutes and handed her three gold coins and a silver coin "Madam said the silver coin is for the delivery"

Kate bowed "please extend my regards to her"

"Hmm" The Butler Patrick hummed before turning "let me walk you out"

Kate carried the bag she used to bring the linen and left with the butler.

Once outside the gate, she started walking in the direction she came from. Not seeing any carriage pass, she decided to trek to the carriage station where they usually took people coming from the town of Lockwood to her town.

The town of Lockwood seemed deserted as if everyone had gone to their place of work or were just resting at home. She continued walking as she hummed a soft tune to herself.

An owl howled from a distance followed by a cry. Kate's feet slowed down as she tried to have a clear hearing of where the cry came from but all went silent again.

Thinking it was from one of the animals in the woods she continued walking. The cry came again, much louder than before. Fear gripped Kate when she continued hearing the cry that came louder than before. And it seemed that whatever it was, was getting nearer every passing second.

Remembering what Madam Rosie said about the night creatures, she started running as fast as she could before whatever it was would have her for a meal.

Not running for long, she came face to face with a weird-looking person, half the face was rough like xerosis and the other half with scales. What in the world is this? And…and the hand? Looking like a snake's body. He also looked like a man. Fear gripped Kate as she slowly took a step back, maybe I should run back and get help from Madam Castrol.

Before she could take a step back, whatever was standing there suddenly moved to make her halt her steps. He started coming closer to her while observing her from head to toe. Kate didn't know why but her feet refused to move no matter how hard she tried.

"Don't force yourself"

What! he can speak, the voice so clear and sweet, never have I imagined that a hideous-looking creature could have a sweet voice.

A look of annoyance passed through his eyes as he charged towards her, panicking Kate screamed to get help but her voice got stuck in her throat. What! what is happening to me?

I need to get out of here, but how? Is this how I'm going to die? Oh, the goddess of the sun and moon please help.

The creature now came to stand in front of her, a look of amusement on his face "I never thought you would be so gullible, and you're calling the goddess of the sun and moon. Pitiful, after all, you've done?"

He can hear my thoughts? And what I've done? but wait…"What do you mean by what I've done? What are you and what is happening to me, what have you done to me" Kate forgot she couldn't talk as she tried to get out from the frustration of standing with an ugly-looking creature.

He gave her a sinister smile before turning away "One question at a time lass. Now, what have I done to you? I made you stop talking and stand still, so you should know how you call me ugly because I can kill you for all those years you came and destroyed our lives" This time his voice sounded angry not like the sweet voice he was using.

"Destroyed your lives? What do you mean?" Kate continued to speak from her mind. Since he could hear her thoughts then that's how they will be communicating.

"Don't act and look innocent now, you were just a kid, barely eight or so, but yet you ruined so many lives. I should have killed you at the beginning, but you went into hiding, but now?" He turned again facing her "I can kill you!"

Kate felt her head clouding, her head felt muddled up, she couldn't think or didn't want to think. What happened when she was barely eight? That was the time I lost my family. But what is he saying, I ruined so many lives? Could it be I killed them?

Kate didn't know what was happening to her but she started shaking terribly. All those years she had bottled those memories, it came crashing on her now.

The creature kept observing Kate as she started losing her mindset. He looked pleased with whatever was happening to her. He couldn't kill her and the only way to do so was by infiltrating her mind with negative thoughts. He had noticed that she couldn't remember her past, so the better way to kill her is by instigating it in her mind.

He continued watching Kate as she continued struggling to keep her sanity in place. She had started to lose consciousness, breathing became difficult for her. Seeing this, he started approaching her again, now it's the time he thought.

Stretching his hand so he could grab Kate, he stopped halfway as anger flashed through his eyes. His demeanor started changing to his real self. Horns appeared and his eyes turned pitch black, his nails came out long and sharp.

He turned now backing Kate "Show yourself!" His voice now sounded rough different from what he sounded like before.

"Tch tch. To think I would have the chance to see an ugly-looking demon makes my eyes prick." A man's voice spoke from the back making the creature turn abruptly to where he heard the voice from.

"Then I think you should be ready to be killed fool!" He spoke bringing out black smoke from its nostrils and ears.

"Say that for yourself ugly" The man taunted to see a sharp axe being thrown in his direction which he dodged.

"Is that all you got? Pitiful, after bragging to kill an innocent woman"

"Innocent woman?" The demon raged "You and I know what she had done"

"Do you think someone as small as she was, knew what was happening around her then? You speak as if you are clean yourself. You are too dirty that you can't transform yourself completely making you look hideous"

The demon was more enraged at being called hideous and ugly, he charged toward his intruder and started attacking the man relentlessly, throwing sharp knives and axe together with balls of fire.

The man continued dodging his every attack making the demon angrier. "You're still a weakling after being burned in the furnace of hell. Pitiful, now it's my turn"

Kate couldn't keep up as her mind was a mess, one minute she was alright and the next she started feeling dizzy, what is happening to me?. I don't want to die this way. She kept drifting away before she heard two voices, one taunting and the other angry. She couldn't make out what they were saying but all she saw was a man fighting with the hideous creature.

Not able to keep awake, she passed out leaving herself in the hands of the goddess of the sun and moon.
