Chapter 3

ผู้เขียน: Candied Moon

He grabbed the ring off my index finger and yanked it off.

The cheap band snapped, leaving a deep slice that oozed blood down my skin.

"The necklace I bought you," he barked.

With a single jerk, Lawrence snapped the thin chain around my throat. The wire cut into my skin, dripping dark drops onto the floor.

"The clothes I bought you."

He ripped my blouse down the middle. Cold air slapped my bare skin, leaving me shuddering as the men in the room ogled me without shame.

I wrapped my arms around myself, hollowed out by the sheer contempt in his eyes.

Every gift he had ever given me was a cheap knockoff of what he bought my twin. The lowest quality, the trash material.

"Fakes belong with fakes," Lawrence sneered. "This garbage is all you're worth."

Everything on my body wasn't even worth fifty bucks combined.

What the hell did I actually owe him?

I stood there, weeping in silence. Lawrence reached out and caught a single tear on his fingertip, only to flick it away as if it burned him.

"You're the one who wanted to leave with nothing," he spat. "What are you crying about? You think you can use that face to play hard to get?"

He pulled a young woman into his lap.

She shared a faint resemblance to my sister, maybe sixty percent, but she was younger and unblemished.

"Serena Lucas looks like her too," he murmured, staring right through me. "Younger. Fresher. You're the veteran here, Clara Hall. Why don't you give her a live demonstration on how to serve me before she takes your place?"

Before I could react, he grabbed my wrists and pinned me down onto the leather sofa.

The men in the room burst into dark, drunken cheers.

"Lawrence, man, you doing a live show? That's fucking wild!"

Lawrence didn't say a word. He ignored my thrashing and pulled down my shoulder strap with a cold, mechanical movement.

"See this?" he told the girl, keeping me pinned beneath him. "This is the style I like."

One hand gripped my thigh, forcing my leg up. "And this is the position I like."

My arm swung on pure instinct. The crack of my palm across his face echoed through the entire room.

Dead silence fell.

Lawrence's eyes flushed instantly crimson. He glared down at me, his jaw trembling with rage.

"Who the hell are you playing pure for?" he growled through his teeth. "When you drugged my drink and crawled into my bed, you were burning for it, weren't you?"

I dug my nails into my palms until the skin split, my entire body shaking out of control.

Lawrence shoved me off him with an expression of pure disgust.

"Boring as hell. She's all yours, boys. Have fun."

He wrapped his arm around the young girl and walked out without looking back once.

He left me half-naked, trapped in a room full of dangerous, intoxicated men.

---

"Lawrence Peterson!" I screamed, my voice shredding from my throat. "Lawrence Peterson... don't leave me here! Lawrence!"

The door slammed shut. He didn't turn around.

"Lawrence doesn't want you anymore, sweetheart," a heavy man slurred, stepping toward the sofa. "Why not stay with me? I guarantee I'll treat you better than he ever did."

I spat directly into his face.

His expression twisted into rage. He threw a heavy, ringing slap across my cheek, sending my head snapping back.

"Stop acting like you're above everyone!" he spat, wiping his face. "You're just trash who drugged a guy to get into his bed. Lawrence got sick of you and threw you out. I'm doing you a favor by touching you."

I bit my lower lip so hard the taste of copper filled my mouth.

Years ago, someone had spiked Lawrence's drink at a corporate gala.

I had chased off the people trying to take advantage of him, but in his delirium, he had pulled me into his arms.

His kiss had burned against my skin. I knew I should have pulled away, but I let myself drown in it.

When he woke up the next morning, he convinced himself it was all my sick trick. He forgot that he was the one who refused to let me go that night.

"What's the matter? Guilty?"

Seeing me freeze, the man assumed he hit a nerve. He pinned my shoulders to the cushions and fumbled frantically with his belt buckle.

"Stop it! Hold on, stop!" another man called out, shoving a glowing phone screen into his face.

The man's face turned completely dark. He glared down at me, his breath hitching in sudden frustration.

He hauled off and cracked another hard slap across my face.

"Lawrence is playing us for fools!" he cursed, spitting on the carpet. "Who the fuck does he think he is?"

He threw two more slaps across my mouth for good measure.

"Just a used-up bitch anyway," he muttered bitterly, stepping back. "Like I would actually want your trash."

He turned away, but right before he left, he turned back and kicked me hard in the ribs.

When he finally woke up, Lawrence found himself trapped in a pitch-black room. The wound on his neck had been carefully bandaged. He was kept in total darkness for what felt like days, his stomach twisted with excruciating hunger. When food was finally brought in, he devoured it frantically. But within minutes, severe allergic hives flared up across his skin, and his throat began to swell shut.Realization dawned on him. This was Arthur's punishment, forcing him to endure every single agonizing torment I had suffered at his hands.Over the following weeks, Lawrence was fed trigger foods daily. Whenever the reaction turned life-threatening, medical staff stepped in to treat him just enough to keep him alive. They stripped him bare, allowing heavy, intimidating men to mock and touch him freely in the dark.By the time the guards finally dragged him out, Lawrence had been broken down into a hollow, skeletal husk of a man."Get up," a guard snapped, throwing a clean coat over

"If that's what your cheap love looks like," I said, my voice dropping to a whisper, "then I'd rather have nothing at all!"Not a single spark of affection remained in my eyes. I looked down at him as if he were a complete stranger.Lawrence opened his mouth, but no sound came out. He couldn't force a single word to defend himself.Yet his ego refused to surrender. He looked up, his raw voice choked with desperation."You loved me for so many years... how could you possibly change your mind so fast?"A bitter laugh escaped my throat."I never actually loved you, Lawrence."Lawrence snapped his head up, his bloodshot eyes wide with sheer terror."Vivian and I shared a rare, sensory connection," I said flatly. "My feelings for you were never mine. “Her intense love for you bled into my mind, tricking me into believing I was the one falling for you."I took a slow breath, stepping closer to Arthur."The only thing I ever wanted was someone who loved me wholeheartedly and uncon

Lawrence sprinted straight to the hospital ward, only to find the bed empty. The nurse told him I had already been discharged.Desperate, he tried calling his close friend who managed airport logistics, standardly known among their group as Liam Reed. The call went straight to voicemail.Lawrence had no choice but to head to the private club where their circle usually gathered. The moment he stepped into the venue, a valet mentioned that Liam Reed and a few others had just walked toward the back lounge. As Lawrence approached the doorway, the sound of laughing voices leaked through the heavy mahogany door."Lawrence is out looking for you, Liam," someone sneered."Looking for me for what?" Liam snickered. "He's not actually pissed because I kicked that girl in the ribs, is he? She was the one who—"Before the sentence was finished, Lawrence smashed the door open and hit the room like a sledgehammer.Chaos broke loose. After beating Liam Reed until his face was bloody and swo

"Please, Lawrence. "Clara!" he called out, his voice choked with instant excitement. The moment he got a clear look at her face, his expression hardened into stone.Serena Lucas stirred awake under the bright lights. Seeing him back, she scrambled up and threw her arms around him, her face lit up with delight."You're home?"Lawrence pushed her off without a trace of warmth."I told you to leave," he said, his voice dropping into a dangerous quiet. "Why the hell did you come back?"Sensory shock rippled through her. Serena instantly squeezed out tears, gazing up at him through a wet blur."You saved my life," she whi

When I calmly told him I no longer loved him, Lawrence froze. It took him a long moment to force out a response."Are you angry?" he rasped. "Because I didn't get you out first?"I stayed silent. Taking my silence as validation, he scrambled to explain."I only carried that girl out first to protect Vivian's necklace," he stammered, stepping forward. "The second I handed her off, I ran straight back to find you! I—""So my life isn't even worth a necklace?"Even though my heart was completely dead to him, a cold shudder ran down my spine as those words hung in the air.Lawrence went entirely rigid. He parted his lips, but no sound came out.I let out a long, exhausted sigh. "Lawrence, let's just end this miserable marriage. Stop torturing both of us."I never expected that the moment the words left my mouth, tears would spill from Lawrence's eyes.---The last time Lawrence had ever cried was at Vivian's funeral.Back then, he had wept profusely, losing every ounce of his

Darkness pressed in from all sides. I had no idea how long I had been trapped beneath the rubble. The frantic shouts of rescue teams leaked through the shattered concrete, faint and muffled. I parted my lips to call out, but my parched throat couldn't force out a single sound. It seemed I really was going to die here."Clara! Clara Hall!"A raw, agonizing scream pierced through the cracks in the stone slabs, accompanied by the frantic barking of a search dog. Piece by piece, the heavy debris above me was hauled away until a beam of sunlight broke through.I squeezed my eyes open and caught sight of a tear-streaked face.I had to be hallucinating. Arthur Daniels was supposed to be overseas. How could he possibly be here?An icy tear fell onto my lips, tasting deeply bitter."Over here! There's someone alive down here!""Clara Hall! Don't you dare close your eyes! Do you hear me?!" Arthur barked, his voice choked and hoarse. "You still owe me!"Heavy footsteps converged a
