Chapter 2

Author: Washing Wheat
My unease reached its peak the day I accidentally saw a blushing lady asking Nicholas for his contact information, and he didn't refuse.

I argued with him, threw tantrums, and demanded he keep his distance from other women.

At first, he just laughed and rubbed my hair. "Relax, don't overthink it. I have no interest in her. I only gave her my contact because there were too many people around at the time. I didn't want to embarrass her. After that, she sent me messages, but I didn't reply to even a single one."

He even opened the chat to show me that the lady had been talking to herself the whole time, and he hadn't responded once.

Still, I couldn't shake my worry. He gave away his kindness too easily to other women.

After I threw enough tantrums, he grew irritated and frowned impatiently. "Olivia, I told you I have nothing to do with them! Can't you just trust me a little? Stop acting like a paranoid lunatic all the time, okay?"

He could never understand the anxiety gnawing at me, or how terrified I was of losing him.

In a reckless moment, I used a pin to poke a hole in a condom. Naively, I thought that if I got pregnant, he would settle down, change his mind about marriage, and finally marry me.

I needed a marriage certificate as a guarantee of our relationship.

But reality had other plans.

When Nicholas discovered I was pregnant, there was no joy but only anger at being "tricked".

His gaze was icy as he said, "Olivia, don't think a baby will make me agree to anything. If you don't terminate it, we're done."

But Tracy stepped in, scolding him, "If you so much as hurt my grandson, you should just leave the Faulkner family!"

Tracy had always dreamed of having a grandchild and had long opposed Nicholas' childfree stance.

Nicholas couldn't refuse his mother.

Then, Tracy held my hand, soothing me.

"Olivia, just take care of the baby. Once he sees how adorable the baby is, he'll change his mind about having no children. I'll talk to him and make sure he marries you as soon as possible."

I truly believed there would be a turning point.

But then Amelia appeared in Nicholas' life.

The first time I noticed a kiss mark on Nicholas' neck, I sobbed and demanded an explanation.

He smiled contemptuously and said in a casual tone, "Weren't you always worried I'd cheat? If I don't prove it, won't you be disappointed?"

From that day on, Amelia became a frequent presence in my life. She sent provocative messages and flaunted herself in front of me.

Whenever I confronted her, Nicholas always sided with her. In a cold voice, he said mockingly, "If you want to stay by my side, you'll have to learn to tolerate Amelia."

Backed up by him, Amelia smiled triumphantly.

I trembled all over, feeling suffocated.

Then, just when I was on the verge of breaking, the chandelier above crashed down without warning.

Nicholas reacted instantly, pulling Amelia out of harm's way. I was slower, which caused my left arm to be scraped by the shards.

With the pain came overwhelming despair and regret.

Yes, I regretted it.

I shouldn't have foolishly tried to use a child to tie Nicholas down. It was my own stupidity that dragged me into this mess.

When I decided on the pregnancy termination, Tracy learned of it and counseled me not to do so. "Olivia, Nicholas wronged you, and I apologize on his behalf. But I've always treated you as my own daughter. For my sake, keep this baby, so I have a chance to hold a grandchild."

She continued, "Don't worry, you won't lose out. If you agree to have the child, I'll give you 20 million. And if you want to leave afterward, I'll help you."

I had completely given up on Nicholas.

Tracy and I agreed not to tell him about this arrangement.

After that, I stopped paying attention to Nicholas and Amelia.

Nicholas thought I had come to terms with everything. He even joked and said, "It's good that you know your place. Stay out of my business with Amelia, and just stay here obediently."

He didn't know that I no longer loved him.

Once the baby was born, I would leave.

Indeed, as Tracy had predicted, after Yves' birth, Nicholas' paternal instincts kicked in. He finally compromised and agreed to marry me for the child.

But I no longer cared for such a dirty man.

The day I left Waterton, I blocked all of Nicholas' contact information.

Goodbye, Nicholas.

I gently stroked his hair, trying to comfort him."Even if we don't live together, I'll always be your mom. If you miss me, we can video chat anytime."He sniffled, swallowing back his tears, and asked hesitantly, "During holidays, can I fly over to see you?"I smiled warmly. "Of course you can."Even five-and-a-half-year-old Yves had my best interests at heart and knew when to let go.But 30-year-old Nicholas was still clinging to me desperately and trying to change my mind. When I threw the roses he had sent into the trash once more, the sorrow in his eyes threatened to overflow."Tell me, what do I have to do for you to even look at me?"His voice was raw and fragile with desperation."Should I kneel before you?"Before I could answer, he actually went down on his knees."Olivia, just one more chance. I'll do anything. I'll even give my life to you."I hadn't expected him to go this far.But his actions didn't touch me. Instead, it made me recoil. "Do you even realize h

I smiled. "But I love Lucas. He shut things down cleanly, giving me complete peace of mind.I hated the smell of alcohol, so he went completely sober.I loved movies, so he built a full home theater with a starry sky ceiling for me.Even when he was swamped at work, he still found time every week to watch a couple of movies with me.There was a period when I couldn't sleep well. At night, I would get all wound up, and he worried I'd be bored. Even when he was exhausted, he stayed up with me, chatting all night. He went to all sorts of specialists to help me get healthy. That month,

Amelia was completely destroyed by that other woman. Not only did she walk away empty-handed, but she also ended up trapped in massive debt. She begged Nicholas to help her, but he didn't even care about her.In the end, she lost a hand and met a miserable fate.I didn't feel an ounce of sympathy. She brought it all on herself.Still, even if Nicholas never loved her, the fact that they used to be together was real. I could never forgive a man who had hurt me."Nicholas, when I say I don't love you, I really mean it. I will never, ever get back together with you. Stop dreaming!"His eyes welled up, and his voice was hoarse."You don't love me, but do you not love Yves too?"Cornered, he tried to pull at my heartstrings with our son."Yves is a good boy. Everyone who meets him says he's polite and kind. He's just like you. He loves cilantro, hates spinach, and always sleeps on the left side of the bed."He continued, "He often asks where his mom is. He wonders if you hate him,

Then again, Olivia had been the one who caused all of this. She was the one who schemed against him and pushed him to this point.Once he thought about it that way, the guilt disappeared.Amelia was fun. He started seeing her more and more. When Olivia found out, she cried until her voice gave out.But Nicholas didn't feel sorry for her.He had already promised to take care of her for life, and yet she still wasn't satisfied. "Even without Lucas, I wouldn't get back together with you, let alone marry you. I stopped loving you five years ago. Got that?"A flicker of panic crossed his face. The truth was right in front of him, but he stubbornly forced himself to deny it."I don't believe you! If you didn't love me, why would you give birth to Yves? I know you're still hung up on Amelia. I already cut her off. I can promise you that there won't be any other woman. I'll stay with you. Just stop pushing me away, okay?"He kept going in circles, and I was tired of listening. So, I just said straightforwardly, "I don't love you anymore. Even if you married someone else tomorrow and had a dozen kids with her, I wouldn't care. Do you understand? As for Yves, I regretted the pregnancy by the fifth month. I was going to terminate, but your mom offered me 20 million. That's the only reason I kept the baby. Ask her if you don't believe me."I continued, "Nicholas, you disgust me. If it weren't for the money, why wo

"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" Lucas asked with worry as he gently carried me to the back seat of the car. He urged the driver, "Hurry, get us to the hospital!""I don't know," I murmured, resting my head against his chest. "I just felt dizzy all of a sudden."Lucas' grip tightened. "Drive faster, Caleb!"Nicholas' car followed closely behind. When we arrived at the hospital, Lucas carried me straight to the emergency room, with Nicholas just a step behind. After the doctor examined me, both men leaned in and simultaneously asked in an urgent tone, "Doctor, how is my wife?"The doctor looked at the three of us with obvious confusion. At this point, even being associated with Nicholas felt embarrassing. I glared at him, my patience gone. "Shut up." Then I explained to the doctor, "He's got issues. You can ignore him." I gestured toward Lucas. "This is my husband."Lucas shot Nicholas a pointed look. "Got that? I'm the legal husband. You can go cry yourself to
