Chapter 3

作者: Aetheria
I ran straight into Selina again.

"Sylvia, have you started preparing to leave?"

There was a hint of mockery in her voice.

She stepped in front of me, a venomous smile playing openly on her lips. "You won't be coming back for the rest of your life. I hear the Alpha of the Snow Wolf pack is an expert at torture. I wonder how many winters you'll survive in an ice cavern?"

Then, she leaned close to my ear, whispering in a voice meant only for us: "Perhaps you'll be reuniting with your short-lived mother very soon."

A loud buzz erupted in my head. I grabbed her collar in a frenzy, my nails already extending into the sharp points of wolf claws.

"Selina! Say that again!"

She looked at me with utter contempt, her fingers reaching for my necklace.

I was about to dodge, but she was faster. She yanked the necklace off my neck.

It was my mother's remains; I had worn it every day and never taken it off.

"Give it back!"

"I wish you less torment in the Frostlands."

Smiling, she let the emerald gem slip from her fingertips.

Crack. The gem shattered into several pieces.

Rage surged to my brain. "What did you just do?!"

I raised my hand, my fingers transforming into wolf claws, ready to slash Selina’s face.

Suddenly, a large hand seized my wrist and hurled me to the ground.

Lucien didn't even glance at me. He stepped right over me, bending down to carefully scoop Selina, who was still pressing down on me, into his arms.

"Selina! Are you hurt?" His voice was thick with panic and anxiety.

Selina sobbed in his arms, her shoulders shaking uncontrollably. "Lucien, I'm so scared... Sylvia tried to kill me..."

Lucien gently laid her on the sofa. Channeling his wolf power, he meticulously checked her over. Only after confirming she was merely frightened and unharmed did he turn his head to look at me.

I struggled to sit up, but a dull throb pounded in my brain.

"Lucien, she..." I tried to explain.

"Enough!" Lucien snapped, cutting me off harshly. "Sylvia, will you only be satisfied if you drive Selina to her death?"

Clutching my wound, I stared at him in disbelief. "I didn't... she did it on purpose... "She smashed my mother's keepsake!

"Shut up!"

His condemning gaze pierced my heart all over again.

Selina leaned weakly against Lucien’s chest, her eyes brimming with tears. "She said that as long as I died, you would return to her side."

Looking at Selina’s provocative gaze, I suddenly felt profoundly exhausted.

Even if I explained, Lucien wouldn't believe me. Besides, I had already planned to enter a marriage of convenience in the Frostlands; I had no need to explain anything to him.

Selina continued her sickeningly sweet act of framing me. "I won't blame Sylvia. I am willing to enter a marriage of convenience in the Frostlands."

His eyes were ice-cold, as if he were looking at a heinous murderer. "How did you become so vicious? You have deeply disappointed me! If your mother knew you had become like this..."

"Shut your mouth!"

Smack!

Gathering the very last ounce of strength in my body, I struggled to my feet and slapped Lucien hard across the face.

"You are not worthy of mentioning my mother. The one who was supposed to go to the Snow Wolf pack wasn't Selina. It was..."

  • Left the Pack, Fated Mate Regrets   Chapter 9

He stood before the castle gates, covered entirely in snow, resembling a stone statue eroded by wind and frost for a thousand years.I didn't recognize him at first. He had grown far too thin. His collarbones protruded sharply from his open collar, his cheekbones were high, and his eye sockets were sunken so deeply it was as if something had been hollowed out from within.Only his eyes were still Lucien's, yet they no longer belonged to the Lucien I remembered. His gaze in the past had been... confident, resolute, occasionally carrying a hint of condescending amusement, as if there was nothing in this world he couldn't obtain. But the way he looked at me now... was like a drowning man desperately clutching a piece of driftwood, like someone buried alive in the snow frantically digging upward."Sylvia..." He called my name, his voice as hoarse as sandpaper grinding against bone. "I've come to take you home."I stopped in my tracks, standing three paces away.Snow fell densely between h

I nearly choked on my soup.He looked at me calmly, not a trace of mockery in his eyes. He had said it with the same casual, natural tone one would use to remark on how heavily it was snowing. Not knowing how to respond, I simply lowered my head and continued drinking my soup, my ears burning hot.The next morning, a bouquet of flowers was left at my door.Such vibrant flowers could never grow in the Frostlands; Alexander had specifically found them for me.In the days that followed, I realized Alexander was nothing like the rumors. He never restricted my movements, never limited my diet, and didn't even bring up the mating bond once.I lived in his castle for ten full days. Aside from handling pack affairs, he spent his time practicing with his sword in the snow or sitting alone on an ice peak, watching the moon. One day, unable to hold it in any longer, I asked him, "Aren't you afraid I'll run away?"He turned his head to look at me, a faint, barely-there smile touching his ice-blue

(Sylvia’s POV)The snow in the Frostlands was heavier than I had imagined.Wrapped in a thick fur cloak, I curled up in the corner of the carriage, my teeth chattering uncontrollably. My escort had turned back three days ago; the rest of the journey, I had to face alone. The further north we traveled, the stronger the scent of blood in the air.I had long heard of the Snow Wolf pack' brutality, but seeing them in person confirmed that the rumors were entirely true.Three massive, silver-white wolves swooped down from a snowy ridge, completely surrounding the carriage. They were a full size larger than any wolves I had ever seen, their fangs bared, emitting low, threatening growls from their throats.I remembered Selina's curse:?"I hear the Alpha of the Snow Wolf pack is an expert at torture..."My heart hammered wildly against my ribs. But I knew I couldn't back down.I pushed aside the carriage curtain and stepped down slowly. The north wind whipped snow pellets against my face, sting

I stood up, my footsteps clumsy and unsteady as I crossed the corridor, stopping right outside the Alpha's council chamber. The door was open. The Alpha had his back to me. Hearing my footsteps, he didn't turn around."What are you doing here? Now that she's gone, you finally realize what you had?"I clenched my fists until my knuckles turned white. "I am going to the Northern Frostlands. I am going to bring her back."The Alpha turned around, his face etched with profound disappointment and fury."It's too late. She has already bonded with the Alpha of the Snow Wolf pack."His voice wasn't loud, but it struck me harder than any roar ever could."The Snow Wolf pack are fiercely possessive. If you go there, you might not even get to see her bones."I stood rooted to the spot, utterly speechless. The Alpha walked over and placed a heavy hand on my shoulder, the force nearly pressing me to my knees."You failed her for ten years, Lucien. What do you have to offer to bring her back?""My l

(Lucien’s POV)How could it be her?I felt my heartbeat skip a chaotic beat in that instant. The lingering sensation of lifting the veil still remained in my palm. The bride before me had collapsed onto the floor, tilting up a pure, beautiful face. It was Selina."Lucien, I came in my sister's place willingly... She said she hates you, and she never wants to see you again..."What did she say?My wolf slammed violently against my chest, a pain so severe I could barely stand."Where is she?" I stared at Selina, my voice trembling involuntarily.Selina's lips twitched. Her gaze darted away for a fraction of a second before she whispered, "She... she left early this morning... for the Frostlands. She said she had finally come to her senses and didn't want me to suffer anymore.""Come to her senses?" Doubt gnawed at my mind.Knowing Sylvia's temper, she would absolutely never take Selina's place in the Frostlands."Yes, she said she never wants to see you again..."It felt as though all th

Before I could finish my sentence, everything went black, and I completely lost consciousness. When I woke up again, it was already the next day. The maid taking care of me informed me that Lucien had been standing guard outside the door the entire time, but I didn't want to see him.I asked the maid to pass on a message to him: to go back.I spent a long time in my room, digging out every gift he had given me since we were children. We had been betrothed at a very young age. We were fated mates, the most important people in each other's lives. He would carefully select gifts for my birthday every year and take me to play in the forest.Until one day, Selina joined our games. At some point, the gifts he chose were no longer to my liking.Selina would pick first, leaving whatever was left for me. Sometimes, she left nothing at all. What started as necklaces and rings eventually devolved into grass ropes and stones...Yet, I had cherished every single gift, treasuring them as our unique
