Chapter 2 Remains

Autor: Nameless
"That's a remote island. He'll reflect on himself for now, and once he comes back, he'll accept you for who you are."

Harold's face froze. The moment he looked at Yvonne, the edges of his eyes went red. "Really? I wish he could understand where you're coming from. All I want is to be his family."

Harold rested against her body, and she smelled his cologne. She froze for a moment and patted his nape.

'Harold's a kind soul. I have no idea why Christian keeps going after him,' she thought.

…

Six months had gone by since Harold was taken home, and she was thinking about me very differently.

Still, she couldn't forget how I choked up during the call. After she sent Harold away, she called Rachel. "I thought you're developing that island into a tourist spot. Christian said there are beasts there."

Rachel snickered and answered nonchalantly, "He's living his best life sans any human company. I bet he was lying to you so you'd take him back. Honestly, I don't get why you go out with that liar. Harold is so much better."

Yvonne heaved a sigh of relief and felt more displeased about me. Still, she was stern with Rachel. "Enough. He just walked down the wrong path. The fact his family took in another child doesn't sit well with him. It'll be better once he changes his attitude."

…

I couldn't understand why Yvonne would rather believe Rachel and Harold than me.

I walked around the island barefoot, holding back my fears as I tried to find shelter. Rachel bought this island. It was filled with sand and stone, and the silence was unnerving. There was no food or water.

I felt my heart clench. I tried calling someone, but there was no signal. I kept trying, but my phone went dead before I could make another call.

The sky was getting dark. I kept my fears down as I climbed up a tree, then I swallowed a dry, sour fruit, and I hugged the trunk like my life depended on it.

The moon was shining over the sea, but its gleam was heartlessly cold. I was reminded of my graduation thesis, or to be precise, the things that happened during that time.

When I couldn't sleep, I would grab Yvonne, and we'd watch the moon.

It was a cold winter, and we shared the same down jacket, leaning against each other on the balcony. She would hum lullabies quietly and sleep in my arms, sweet and beautiful. The sight of her filled my heart with warmth.

The sea's breeze bit me.

I stared at the moon, and my mind replayed the lullaby, yet my whole soul felt so cold that I couldn't sleep.

I carefully skirted around the crocodiles, and when I finally found a cave that could shelter me, I ran into a skeleton. It looked like a male's skeleton, and strips of fabric hung over its bones. His face had rotted so much that I could see the bones.

I noticed the signs of bite marks on his remains. Those were made by beasts.

And there were words carved into the wall. Vague. He used a multipurpose knife to carve those.

"Dad, Mom, I'm sorry. I love you."

The sight of his remains told me of my future. I held down my urge to throw up, then huddled closer and covered him with my jacket.

After that, I picked up the multipurpose knife and left.

Tears tried to spill, but I clenched my teeth and held them in. Even tears were precious on this island. I couldn't afford to waste any water I had. No matter what, I had to survive.

…

Back in Imperia, Yvonne was in a bustling night club. She stared at her empty call history and frowned.

"The Shaws are bankrupt, and Harold's imprisoned on that island."I looked at her, surprised."Mr. Shaw wants to see you. Will you…"I snickered. "Why? So, he can yell at me about how evil little me hurt his first love's son?""No. He wouldn't do that to you." Yvonne looked at me, brokenhearted.Samantha stood beside me, quiet until this point, then she stood between us. "Your family's gone after theirs. He's only trying to see Christian so that you'll let up on the assault."Yvonne had nothing to say to that."Do you really think you can win him back with fake feelings?"She acted like she had had it, and she glared at Samantha darkly. "Christian grew up with me! A pathetic bitch that has only hid in the shadows like you can never understand our bond! Do you really think he married you because he loves you? You're just a tool he's using to get back at me."She looked at me with sorrow and urgency. "I know you're getting back at me. If you stay with me, I'll give you everythin

She came for me. My heart was swelling with affection and something sweeter. I thought, 'You saved me. Why are you apologizing?'I was reminded of the time I was just rescued. I couldn't sleep, and my eyes were red with hatred. Sometimes I would lose my mind, and when I calmed down, the picture of Harold had been stabbed with a knife. I was possessed by the desire to kill.Samantha was the one who held me and gently comforted me. "Don't give up on yourself over this. You have a long future ahead of you. You have more than one way to take revenge, and I'll help you, alright?"I snapped out of it and smiled, then I held her hand. "Want to date me?"Something heavy fell with a thud outside the door. Yvonne stood petrified, and the thing that fell was a bag of fruits. She quickly picked it up and came into the room. "I'll tell you what I found, Christian."She looked at me, pale but forcing a smile. Samantha blinked. She half sat up and leaned closer to me, then shrank into my emb

A pair of slender hands grabbed on to me tightly. "Christian!"It was Samantha. Her face was twisted as well, but from exertion, and she slowly pulled me up. I held my breath and worked with her, but I widened my eyes in shock. "Look out!"The caretaker found her bearing after getting pushed away, then she grabbed a thermos and slammed it over Samantha's head. She shook her head but didn't loosen her grip on me at all. Blood trickled down her head and splashed against my face, yet she still gave me a reassuring smile. She was hit a second time. She staggered, and her fingers dug deep into my flesh."Christian!" Yvonne suddenly came running. She slammed her heels over the caretaker's head and pulled me up with a nurse's help.I fell to the ground, dazed and feeling no strength. Samantha wobbled for a moment, then she fell with a thud. I crawled over to her, my eyes filled with tears."It's alright, Christian. We'll call the doctor." Yvonne tried her best to stay calm. She put

I held my forehead in exhaustion and closed my eyes. It was time to send her away. "Leave. I don't want to see you again."There was no sound of her leaving. I looked at her, and her face was twisted with something that looked like something between a smile and the look of someone crying. "It's Samantha, isn't it? You fell for her, so you want to cancel our marriage?"I stared at her in disbelief. This was unreasonable, and I laughed mirthlessly. "Do you have any idea what I looked like when I was saved?"She froze."I was a caveman, a madman, and I weighed less than 100 pounds. My mind was somewhere else, I had a stomach ulcer, claustrophobia, and my right leg had a bone fracture. If it weren't for Samantha, you'd have found two corpses in that cave! From the moment you sent me to that island with your boat, we were done."Yvonne's tears splashed against the ground. She looked at me with horror and panic in her eyes. "I'm sorry. I'll change. Just come home with me, I beg you."

  • Left to Die on the Island   Chapter 6 Explanation Unneeded

When I first got here, treatment was the last thing on my mind. I scoured the Internet for a lot of revenge stories that involved overpowered main characters, and I wrote down a lot of notes that made up my revenge plan. Even in my dreams, I went crazy with vengeance.…The next day, I woke up to my notes having annotations done by Samantha. She'd written down how feasible the plan was and slashed out the parts that were illegal.Samantha was beside my bed, feeding me soup. I looked deadpan, but my face was red. With her companionship, I did my rehabilitation and went to the psychologist as scheduled. She would tell me everything that happened in Imperia and helped me with my revenge plan as a reward. As I went through the file she left me, I chuckled. Then, a sobbing, hoarse voice echoed outside the door. "Christian…" It sounded familiar and not at the same time.Yvonne was white in the face, and her hair was disheveled. She had lost a lot of weight, and her snug dress loo

The corpse inside the cave was wearing my clothes, but now it was a skeleton, and there were bite marks that belonged to beasts on the bones. Two lines remained on the wall. They were the last words of two people. When Yvonne saw my message, her eyes went wide, and she staggered, nearly losing her balance. Her bodyguard asked carefully, "Should we collect the remains?"She shot them a sharp glare. She spoke, but her voice was hoarse and grating. "Nonsense! Christian is alive! This isn't him!" She ran off like she was escaping something, but then she froze outside the cave, unable to take another step. The sun was shining, yet it couldn't melt away the frozen feeling in her heart.…I was looking at the sun, and I wanted to cry. I was in a wheelchair, and the person behind me pushed me out of the psychologist's room. The sunlight was hurting my eyes, but I stared greedily."Watch your eyes," a gentle sound said, then a slender hand blocked my eyes.I remained in my wheelchai
