"Aren't you going to meet your mom?"

"You know what going up to meet her means," Lila took a deep breath. She knew that there was no way she was escaping it but still, she wanted to delay for a few minutes before she faced her mom. She knew the reason she was there and most of what she was going to say to her. She did not need any of that in her life at the moment.

"You cannot escape it; you do not want her to come down and drag you by the ears."

"That is true," Lila said, standing up as she walked away. As she walked to the room, moments of her mother filled her thoughts. She knew how difficult her mother had been while she was growing up, and she thought that she would get better, but it seemed as if she got worse after each year.

She braced herself and knocked on the door; she stopped before she could knock the second time. "This is my room, so why am I knocking?" she asked herself. Knowing she did not have an answer she took out her card and opened the door. She stepped in to see
