Assembly Meeting

As I watched his figure retreat down the hallway, I bit down the litany for words that were dancing on the top of my tongue to attack him with. I was grateful for his help, and he had saved me when I needed help the most, but what he had said to me right after felt like it had negated everything he had done before. Or perhaps, to mock me more and that is to say, he added more salt to injury.

Now that I was alone, my color returned, and cheekily, I put out my tongue. “For your information, sir, you are wrong about me and I am a virgin. And I would never date one of the Betas or Alphas. They are a little too much for me. I like Omegas. So there!” Knowing he wasn’t anywhere near to hear me, I let out a sigh, disappointed.

Dusting off the book that I had been holding, I realized that now my mood has been soiled, and I wanted to return home. The book no longer seemed to be worth all of the trouble that it had brought me this morning. With a deep breath, I decided to head home, a basement under maid’s apartment , where I lived.

The road home was desolated, and I was surprised to see that the pack which usually did not lack any activity was quiet. Then I realized that the day had gone by very quickly when I was away in the library, and this alone made me hasten my pace as I hurriedly rushed to get back home in time.

When I got home, I met Devin, my fellow maid in the pack house, and I was as pleased as punch when she called out my name. “Sarai! Where have you been?”

“Well, I went to the library to get a book, and then I was bullied by a couple of other maids, and then someone I thought was a charming prince came to my rescue, and then proceeded to tell me that I was sleeping with someone in order to get books from the library.”

“What?” exclaimed Devin, placing a palm against her mouth. “Come on, let’s go inside, you have to tell me everything without leaving any detail.”

Following her, I began to narrate the story, telling her everything.

“Okay, so I had just finished with the laundry stack I had been assigned to for the day when I checked the time and I had a few hours to go, so I went to the pack library and….”

Without letting me finish what I had to say, Devin bombarded me with a serious question,

“Wow, that is such a coincidence! I heard that the son of the Alpha, Damon, is arguing with his dad about an Omega he saw skulking into the library. Apparently, he is mad at his dad, because he is the one helping the girl get into the library. Could it be you that he was talking about?”

Devin threw the questions at me like she’s been waiting for the right moment to strike.

And with furrowed brows, I shrug my shoulders with my palms out.

“I mean, it may be possible, but I highly doubt it, you know. I’ve never actually met the Alpha personally, so I doubt that he would know me. And even if he did, he would have no reason to help me out.”

“Well, maybe he does, and you just don’t know it. I think he has been the one giving you a hand, because I don’t know any other omega who has managed to get into that library without assistance from someone else who has a higher up.”

With that, I came to a startling realization, the color draining from my face. When she put it that way, it made a lot of sense to me. It had to have been him helping me get access into the library. No one else would have control over the guards at the library. But why would he do that?

“Come, in fact, I’m glad you’re here, because the head maid asked us all to go over to the Alpha’s mansion because there is to be an assembly. ”

“And you didn’t think to lead with that? Devin!”

With a sigh, I set down my book on the bed and began the walk over to the pack mansion, after Devin.

As we got to the door, we could hear the hum of people speaking, and I looked at Devin and frowned. “We’re locked out, and we were too late.”

One of the fellow maids noticed that the pair of us had not managed to get into the mansion on time, and she began to laugh, pointing at us and getting the attention of other maids.

As though the universe heard us, the door opened up and we walked in, both of us flushed with color in our cheeks. While we walked in with our heads raised high. The entire place went quiet, and shocked, we looked around trying to meet someone’s gaze for some sympathy.

Except, when I looked around, I did not find a single gaze trained on me, and I realized why everyone had suddenly gone quiet.

At the same time as the doors opened for us, they had opened up the doors of the mansion, and an unseemly sight had come out of them doing that.

A wolf screamed in terror, a never ending sound that echoed around the room, and I looked around, trying to figure out exactly what he had seen to make him keep howling that way.

I stepped on my tiptoes to see, but only saw a river of red in the front. Shrugging, I returned to my normal height and looked around trying to see if I could find someone who could explain what was going on to me.

I searched for Devin but couldn’t find her by my side. Curious about what was happening, I glanced ahead and locked eyes with the Alpha’s son at the front, holding a bloody dagger that stained the tiled floor.

Beside me, someone fainted, and I shook my head in disbelief.
