Jax’s pov

The TV was just background noise—something to fill the silence while I answered backlogged emails and signed off on logistics for the press follow-up. I barely even heard the first few words of the broadcast until I saw the red banner flash across the screen.

BREAKING: Authorities Investigate Underground Tennis Betting Rings.

I froze mid-click, fingers hovering above the remote.

The news anchor’s voice sharpened: “—what officials are calling a wide-scale operation involving secret matches, off-the-record player appearances, and ties to high-stakes gambling. Anonymous sources claim several top athletes participated in these unregulated games, which were often held in luxury venues across America, Europe and Asia.”

A clip flashed across the screen—grainy footage of a rooftop tennis court under low lighting. No faces, just shadows. One of the players had a swing eerily similar to mine.

My stomach dropped.

I muted the TV and leaned forward, staring at the footage. It

  • Let Me Go, Boss!   99: Never ever

Jax’s POVThe flashes from the cameras didn’t bother me, at least, not until my phone started vibrating like it was trying to crawl out of my pocket. The team and I were halfway through the shoot, they stuffed ridiculous branded gear into my view and made me pose with them with fake grins and forced chemistry, when Marcus from PR gave me a look across the set. He didn’t say anything, just tilted his chin and tapped his phone. That look meant one thing: check yours.I stepped off the white backdrop, ignoring the stylist trying to fluff my hoodie, and grabbed my phone. I unlocked it and saw twenty-seven missed notifications. Most of them were links, I clicked on the first one on the list. It played without sound. It was Riley, in a pale gold dress that caught the light like she belonged in it, Camilla stepped into the frame, looking wicked as always. Her lips curled upwards in a smirk as she said something I couldn’t hear. Riley’s facial muscles tensed and then she muttered words I co

  • Let Me Go, Boss!   98: Forget?

Five hours ago…CAMILLA’S POVI woke up to the sound of my phone buzzing nonstop on the nightstand. Frustrated, I stretched my hand and reached for it. When I unlocked the phone, I was welcomed with dozens of notifications. My group chats were on fire. My mother’s name popped up, twice.“BREAKING: Jax Maddox caught kissing girlfriend backstage at gala.”Attached below it was a very clear photo of Jax holding Riley’s face like she was the damn oxygen in his lungs, his mouth were on hers while her hands fisted in his tux jacket like she needed him.I stared at the image for a full minute, my blood raging in my veins as I did.So, this is what it felt like to be replaced publicly. The two idiots didn’t even bother trying to hide it. Did they not think of what would happen when people saw him kissing his girlfriend and he abandoned his pregnant baby mama? How dumb was he? I thought he was getting better and smarter with his PR now, but apparently, he still hadn’t learned anything. I hisse

  • Let Me Go, Boss!   97: I’ll be back for you

Riley’s POVMy head was pounding when I woke up the next morning, my mouth tasted like cheap champagne and bad decisions. The pillowcase I used was smeared with leftover mascara. And then it hit me, the kiss, the smooches I had allowed to happen before Jax left me at midnight. I pressed my fingers to my lips. My phone buzzed against the nightstand, lighting up the whole room. I reached for it lazily… then froze when I saw it.324 missed notifications. What the hell?I swiped to unlock the screen. I had several messages, tags, news alerts, and a text from Vanessa in all caps:“RILEY. IT’S EVERYWHERE.”My heart did a nosedive. I hurriedly clicked the first news notification I could find and a photo of I and Jax popped up. It was a grainy, blurry picture but it was crystal clear that it was me and Jax ok the rooftop. His hand wrapped around my waist with out lips locked.I scrolled further down to see several news tags. “Hockey Star and PR Darling are now sharing Steamy kisses in

  • Let Me Go, Boss!   96: Don’t let me go

Riley’s povI slammed the door behind me and leaned against it, holding my breath in hopes that it would stop the night from catching up with me. I just kissed Jax Maddox.Again. For what felt like the hundredth time even though I knew it was wrong. My heels clicked against the floor as I stepped inside my apartment. I didn’t bother turning on the lights, the soft city glow leaking through the windows was enough.I dropped my purse on the counter, my hands shaking as I did.I could feel the tears creeping in, threatening to spill over as I thought about Camilla and the baby on the way.“God!” I sighed, rubbing my face in frustration. I hated complicated situations, and yet I’d gone to put myself in the middle of one. My fingers undid the clasp of my dress slowly, as if that would keep me from falling apart. I let it slip off my shoulders and stepped out of it like I was shedding everything that had happened tonight. But it wasn’t that easy. Jax’s voice was still ringing in my head.

  • Let Me Go, Boss!   95: Whisper

Jaxs Pov The elevator doors slid open to reveal the rooftop, glowing under soft lights. Everything about tonight screamed luxury—tailored tuxedos, velvet gowns, and crystal trays balanced on white-gloved hands. I stepped out, feeling sharp and plastering a smile fake on my lips. “Maddox!” a woman from the board of light tennis champions called, her cheeks glowed with an excessively light foundation and bright blush. “Jax! You clean up really well.” I nodded slightly. “Thanks, Miranda.” Since I arrived the party, I had already shaken ten hands before I crossed the main floor, pretending to care about the donations and the silent auction board. My agent’s voice echoed in my head—“You need to be seen, Jax. After all of Camilla’s stunt, people are talking. Show them you’re still in control.” Control. What a goddamn joke. I didn’t want to be here, not after everything that had happened, not with my name trending for the wrong reasons and Camilla still playing the perfect victim. Bu

  • Let Me Go, Boss!   94: Second chance

Camilla’s povI can’t believe Jax walked out on me, just like that. The moment Riley was out of our sight, I’d barely said anything when he turned around, stormed out, and left me standing there like a damn fool in front of everyone.I had stood there frozen for a few seconds, feeling the heat of every camera flash burning into my skin. Everyone was talking, murmuring and whispering about me. Some of them glanced over with eyes filled with pity and some filled with scorn.I lowered my head, my fingers grabbed the edges of my dress and I started pulling it downwards, suddenly self aware of the several people looking at me. You’ll pay for this Jax, you definitely will. I turned on my heel and started to walk to the nearest side door. My velvet heels digged into the carpet as I walked, my heart was pounding like it was trying to jump out of my chest. People stared as I passed, some nudged their partners to “look at me,” while these stared at me in pity. I yanked the door open and step
