Chapter 3

Autor: Eileen
She was just about to leave after getting her wound bandaged when she ran into Jackson outside the operating room door.

A nurse rushed out urgently. "Mr. Wallace, the patient is hemorrhaging heavily. She has Rh-negative blood, a very rare type. Are there any family members who can donate blood to her?"

Jackson's face drained of all color instantly.

When he looked around and saw Wendy, his eyes lit up immediately. He strode over and grabbed her wrist. "Wendy, I remember you're Rh-negative, right? Candace got injured saving me. Please, save her."

Wendy felt a chill run through her entire body.

He knew perfectly well that she was anemic.

Last year, when she fainted from anemia, he was so frantic he nearly turned the hospital upside down.

And now, he wanted her, an anemic, to donate blood to save another woman…

"It won't take much." Jackson's tone was urgent, his grip tightening. "She can't wait any longer!"

Without waiting for Wendy's answer, he forcibly pushed her into the blood donation room.

The moment the needle pierced her vein, Wendy closed her eyes.

As 600cc of blood was drawn from her, her face grew paler and paler.

Jackson stood next to her, staring anxiously at the operating room, not even sparing her a glance.

After the blood was drawn, her legs went weak, and she nearly collapsed to the floor.

Only then did Jackson snap back to his senses. He quickly supported her. "I'm sorry, Wendy… I know you're worried about the baby. Don't worry, the nurse knows the safe limits for drawing blood. If you're worried, I'll ask the doctor to check on you right away."

He insisted on sending her to the examination room. Soon, the doctor came out with the examination report.

Jackson quickly asked, "How's the baby?"

The doctor looked astonished. "The baby? There's no ba…"

"Mr. Wallace!" A nurse suddenly ran over. "Miss Hall keeps calling your name throughout the surgery. Could you please come in and stay with her to strengthen her will to live?"

Jackson left Wendy without hesitation, striding quickly into the operating room.

The doctor hesitated and turned to Wendy. "Mrs. Wallace, does Mr. Wallace not know you had an abortion?"

She smiled and shook her head. "He doesn't know. And there's no need for him to know."

When she walked out of the hospital, the setting sun was beautiful.

Her face deathly pale, Wendy looked at the sunset glow on the horizon and suddenly recalled that back in college, Jackson had said he would take her to see the most beautiful sunset in the world.

Now, the sunset was as beautiful as ever, but they could never go back to the way they were.

Wendy recuperated at home for an entire week.

After that blood donation, she was severely weakened, often suffering from dizziness and vertigo, sometimes even finding it difficult to get out of bed.

The maids were anxious and wanted to call Jackson, but she stopped them.

"No need." She leaned weakly against the headboard. "He's busy."

She knew what he was busy with.

He was busy taking care of Candace.

Candace posted every day on her Instagram, showing people how well Jackson took care of her.

He personally fed her food, went to prenatal checkups with her, and drove in the middle of the night to buy the sour plums she craved…

He was so attentive that he had completely forgotten who his real wife was.

One day, Jackson finally came home.

"A friend of mine is hosting his child's one-month celebration," he said, standing before the walk-in closet choosing a tie. "Come with me, Wendy."

Wendy said nothing. She silently changed her clothes and followed him out.

But when she opened the passenger door, she saw Candace sitting in the passenger seat.

"Wendy," Candace smiled apologetically. "I was so bored cooped up in the hospital, I asked Jackson to bring me along. I get carsick, so I have to sit in front… you don't mind, do you?"

Wendy's fingers froze in mid-air for a moment before she withdrew them. "I don't mind."

She quietly sat in the back row, watching the intimate silhouettes of the two in front.

Jackson thoughtfully lowered the air conditioning's temperature for Candace and handed her a cushion.

All this tenderness that once belonged only to Wendy was now given to someone else.

At the party, Jackson took care of Candace the entire time, completely oblivious to the looks people cast at Wendy.

Whispers constantly drifted into her ears.

"Poor Mr. Wallace. He loves his wife so much, yet his wife ends up pregnant with a kidnapper's baby…"

"Wasn't she supposedly violated?"

"Violated? Candace was kidnapped at the same time, how come she wasn't violated? Wendy must have been a slut."

"I always knew she wasn't the faithful type. She must have seduced the kidnappers to save her own skin. It caused Mr. Wallace so much pain. That's why he got drunk and had a one-night stand with Candace, which got her pregnant…"

All they could hear was each other's breathing. Finally, his father broke the silence first, "Time is almost up. Are you still unwilling to come back?"Jackson and his father were not that close. His father had spent very little time with him in his childhood, and they had almost no common topics. His father was also a stern man, unwilling to proactively communicate with his own son much. The rift between them had only grown over time. Jackson wasn't used to hearing his father ask him a question, so he needed some time to process it.He was silent for a while before saying, "I will go back, but I want to get my answer first."He just wanted to know if Wendy still

Perhaps sensing the dip in Wendy's mood, Thomas made an executive decision and packed both her and their parents off to their mother's hometown for a change of scenery and some relaxation.Initially, he had wanted to send his wife along too, but she was feeling slightly unwell and chose to rest at home.As for Thomas himself, he naturally stayed behind to take care of his wife, and conveniently, to stop Jackson from finding Wendy.Because David's information wasn't updated, Jackson still went to various venues to try and run into Wendy just as before. The first time, he spent a whole night in a public square, braving the cold wind. Wendy did not come to watch the fireworks, and he got soaked in the rain.Unsurprisingly, he fell ill.
