Chapter 5

Autor: Eileen
Although she was caught packing, Wendy was not flustered in the slightest.

She calmly sorted the clothes in her hands and said, her tone indifferent, "Now that I'm pregnant, these clothes don't fit anymore. I want to donate them away."

The tense look on Jackson's face relaxed.

He secretly laughed at himself for being paranoid.

Wendy loved him so much, how could she possibly leave him?

Besides, even if she wanted to leave, he wouldn't allow it, and he definitely wouldn't sign a divorce agreement.

"Buy new ones." He handed her a black card, his tone doting. "Buy as many as you want."

Wendy answered with a soft grunt and took it, but the moment their fingertips touched, she quickly retracted her hand as if she had come into contact with something filthy.

Jackson didn't notice her abnormality. After a moment of hesitation, he added, "Candace's morning sickness has been really severe lately, so I can't leave her alone… I'm planning to stay at her place for a few days."

He paused, as if suddenly remembering something. "I notice you haven't had much morning sickness these days. Try to be more understanding, okay?"

Wendy's fingertips trembled.

The reason there was no morning sickness was because the baby was long gone.

The corner of her mouth tugged, but in the end, she said nothing.

In the following days, Wendy saw news of Jackson doting on Candace practically every day.

In the comments section, netizens shamed Wendy.

"How does that slut Wendy still have the nerve to live?"

"I heard the kidnappers had their way with her all night. She's so filthy!"

"Poor Mr. Wallace. He gets cucked and still has to pretend to be alright!"

Every comment stabbed Wendy's heart like a dagger.

Wendy turned off her phone and told herself it would all be over soon.

After she finished packing all her stuff, she met up with a few close friends to say goodbye.

These friends all knew the real story. As soon as they saw her, they were so angry their eyes reddened, boiling with righteous indignation.

"Jackson pursued you so hard back in the days, but now he treats you like this…"

"Yeah, what does he mean by 'just endure the rumors for a while'? Rumors can kill!"

Wendy simply smiled and shook her head. "Forget it. It'll all be over soon."

Hearing that, the group cheered up a little. They held her hands with sympathy.

"Yes, our Wendy is wonderful, so she deserves the finest man. Jackson had her and didn't cherish her, so he deserves to lose her forever!"

The farewell meal was eaten with much sadness.

After the meal, everyone embraced one by one.

After sending off her friends one after another, Wendy finally walked out of the restaurant.

Just as she was about to get into her car, two people suddenly burst out of the crowd and dropped to their knees in front of her!

"Wendy, we beg you, please let Candace and Jackson be together!" Candace's parents knelt on the ground and begged her. "Candace has always liked Jackson, but because she knew you're the only one in Jackson's heart, she could only silently watch him from afar…

"But now, you've betrayed Jackson and broke his heart, and Candace is now carrying his child. Please let their family of three be together!"

Wendy's face turned deathly pale.

She wanted to leave, but Candace's mother firmly grabbed the hem of her dress.

More and more onlookers gathered, and some started pointing and whispering.

"Isn't that Wendy Harper, the woman who seduced her kidnappers?"

"So shameless. I can't believe she has the nerve to show her face in public…"

Splat—

An egg struck Wendy's shoulder, the yolk running down her white dress.

Following that, rotten tomatoes, unfinished tea, and even stones were hurled at her.

Wendy tried to leave, but Candace's mother had her dress in a tight grip.

When she forcefully struggled free, Candace's parents suddenly fell backward on their own. Their foreheads "accidentally" hit the curb, instantly causing blood to flow profusely.

The surrounding crowd immediately screamed in horror.

"Murder! Wendy Harper is committing murder!"

All they could hear was each other's breathing. Finally, his father broke the silence first, "Time is almost up. Are you still unwilling to come back?"Jackson and his father were not that close. His father had spent very little time with him in his childhood, and they had almost no common topics. His father was also a stern man, unwilling to proactively communicate with his own son much. The rift between them had only grown over time. That evening, fireworks burst across the city sky. The colorful, dazzling lights illuminated half the sky.On the balcony of the Harper mansion, Wendy stood among the guests like the moon surrounded by stars. In the car not far away, Jackson could only vaguely make out the smile on her face. That smile was still so infectious, so much so that it made him smile too."Happy birthday, my Wendy."After the last fireworks display ended, the guests gradually dispersed. One luxury car after another drove off into the distance. The only ones left in the Harper mansion, besides the Harper family, were the servants tidying up the main hall. But Jackson's car still didn't move away. Not until the very last light in the Harper household was turned off did Jackson tell David to start the car.But suddenly, someone gently tapped on Jackson's car window. It was the butler of the Harper family.Seeing Jackson roll down the window and look at him, the butler extended the gift Jackson had se

Perhaps sensing the dip in Wendy's mood, Thomas made an executive decision and packed both her and their parents off to their mother's hometown for a change of scenery and some relaxation.Initially, he had wanted to send his wife along too, but she was feeling slightly unwell and chose to rest at home.As for Thomas himself, he naturally stayed behind to take care of his wife, and conveniently, to stop Jackson from finding Wendy.Because David's information wasn't updated, Jackson still went to various venues to try and run into Wendy just as before. The first time, he spent a whole night in a public square, braving the cold wind. Wendy did not come to watch the fireworks, and he got soaked in the rain.Unsurprisingly, he fell ill.
