Chapter 3 Unrepentant

Autor: Happy Cheetah
Someone furtively tucked their stationery cases away, while others looked away from Erin. Erin had been teaching for a long time, so their reactions told her that her students were planning to cheat. Even so, it didn't make her any less shocked.

"You all hid something in your cases? Who? How many of you, and who proposed this?"

Queenie stepped onto the podium and beamed. "I proposed it. And I was fair about it too. So, everyone in this class has it, but Josephine was too foolish to accept my help. Don't worry. It'll work in your favor if we score high. Just get ready for the interview, Ms. Lawson."

Erin grabbed Queenie and shouted, "You're planning to cheat? What are you thinking? It doesn't matter if you flunk the college entrance exam, but your entire life will go up in smoke if you get caught cheating!"

Queenie's eyes went red, and she put on the look of a hurt cat. "I just want the class to score well."

Michael couldn't stand seeing her cry. So, he stepped forth and pulled Queenie behind him. "We're honors class students, Ms. Lawson! You can't reprimand us right before the big day! You might make us lose confidence!"

The other students swiftly defended Queenie.

"Yeah! There's nothing wrong with her caring about our scores. You should be thanking her, not yelling at her!"

"She's getting evaluated, too. I bet she's just like Josephine, worried that Queenie might steal her thunder!"

Those people started praising Queenie for being thoughtful. Erin's eyes went wide with disbelief. "This is the college entrance exam! If you get caught cheating, it'll be a stain on your academic record, and you'll be banned from taking the exam ever again!"

Michael sneered. "We won't get caught if Josephine keeps her trap shut. There's no way the proctor would go against a whole honors class."

Erin was so overwhelmed by anger that she nearly couldn't form a coherent sentence. Eventually, she spat, "You think the proctor cares if you're an honors class student? They only care about fairness!"

Michael retorted matter-of-factly, "You should be hoping that we'll score well. So, why are you stopping us from doing just that? I bet you're working with Josephine to make sure she's the top scorer!"

I had to silence the bubble of laughter creeping up my throat. I could barely believe that this big idiot thought his plan would work perfectly if I were excluded from the equation.

Erin sensed that there was no reasoning with this bunch of unruly kids. So, she tried to take their stationery cases. "Open them up! I'm going to check them!"

To her surprise, the whole class refused to listen to her. In their eyes, they were sure that Erin and I were in cahoots to stop them from scoring well, and they didn't hesitate to vent their displeasure.

"You're a failure of a teacher! You've been controlling us for three years, and now you won't even let us take the college entrance exam how we want? Who do you think you are?"

"It doesn't matter if we flunk it or if we get caught! We can make our own decisions!"

Erin couldn't believe that her usually brilliant students would say something so foolish. She went red with rage and disappointment. Alas, she was so worked up that she couldn't voice her grievances.

…

Meanwhile, Queenie smiled at Erin and me smugly now that she'd achieved her goal. Michael even wagged his notes challengingly at our faces and turned around, gathering the class for a karaoke session to wind down.

Everyone else agreed and left despite Erin's vehement protests. I watched them leave and felt nothing at all.

Their fates would be sealed the moment we stepped into the hall, as every unauthorized item that was brought into the exam hall would be seen as a tool for cheating.

I was well aware of that because the proctors had meticulously checked everyone's stationery cases right after the papers were distributed in my previous life.

My parents noticed the commotion and immediately came to look for me. They knew what happened between us, so they couldn't help but look at me with worry in their eyes. "Maybe we should talk to him?"I shook my head and held my mother's hand as I said calmly, "It's alright. He has nothing to do with us anymore. Trust me. He'll leave soon."It took a long while before that happened, but Michael's voice eventually disappeared. I knew he was gone, and that we would never have anything to do with each other again from that moment on.I thought that was the end of it, but the Internet was baying for my blood a few days later. Apparently, someone had posted a lot of eye-catching headlines across the socials."Top Scorer Watches As Whole Class Cheats. Her Selfishness Ruins Their Future.""31 Out of 32 Arrested. "Yeah! Enroll them, too! We can't let our children be ruined!"These people were noisy, incessant, and were like leeches stuck to my skin. They kept going on and on about how I was the class representative and had a duty to save their children. Eventually, I lost any and all patience for them as I flung the hand that was holding my arm, glaring at them coldly. Finally, I rebuked icily, "No college will admit cheaters. Not Northberg, not anywhere else."That shut them right up. I turned and left without sparing them a single look. Their children cheated and tried to tip the scales with their status as honors-class students. They deserved to be punished, yet their parents expected me to deal with the fallout? Hah.In my previous life, I kindly saved them only to have my family destroyed. This time, I wouldn't do something that stupid.I went to the bulletin board and saw my name sitting at the top. • Let Them Get Caught   Chapter 7 Begging Parents

I had left the group chat the second I was reborn, so news of their downfall couldn't even cause a ripple to my peaceful life. I knew their ends were set in stone, and all I had to do was walk the path I'd set myself on.The night the college entrance exam were over, my family made a feast to celebrate. My parents were sitting across from me, looking glad.My mother was all smiles as she filled my plate with food. "It's finally over. Let your hair down and go wherever you want."I nodded and picked up my fork. The TV was airing local news, and the news anchor said solemnly, "Breaking news. A severe case of group cheating has happened at a local exam venue. A famous high school's honors class is involved."The entire class brought notes into the exam hall, with the exception of a single student. It is a gross violation, and after the joint investigation between the police and Department of Education, they have arrived at a decision."The cheating students will see their results v

I retorted coldly, "I remember telling you that the college entrance exam forbid cheating, and that the rules aren't there just for fun."Their criticism died in their throats as their faces turned from red to white. I ignored them as I blithely continued, "You could've scored enough for Northberg, but you got too greedy for fame and fortune. Blame your own desires for your downfall, not me."Dead silence fell upon the field. Michael's jaw was slack, and his face took on an ugly shade of puce before settling on ashen. Even he couldn't come up with a single retort to that. The students who were blaming me hung their heads low, cowed. The cops were pressing Queenie's shoulders down. She glared at me with venom in her eyes, but she could barely breathe now, much less curse. The cops frowned in disgust and urged, "Stop wasting time and take them to the station already!"The police car door swung shut, and I could see Michael staring at me through the window. His eyes glinted with re

That drove the already guilty students closer to a breakdown. Michael had lost all strength and was slumped on his chair. Since the proctors had a meeting about this a week ago, that meant that I had no involvement in this sudden inspection, not even in my previous life. This was his second chance at life, and he had chosen to destroy it. Suddenly, he was reminded of Erin's warning about getting caught cheating, and it didn't take long for fear to take root in his bones. He held his head in his hands, his face white with terror, and he let out a quiet scream. The other classmates weren't faring any better, and everyone was tearing up. The other halls were also filled with whines and voices of some braver students pleading for mercy. Some even knelt before the proctor and begged for mercy. They cried, "I'm sorry! I won't do it again! Please, spare me!"Just then, I heard a scream. I instinctively looked outside the window. It was Queenie. She had put makeup on for the occasion,
