Chapter 2 Warning

Author: Happy Cheetah
"I'm a coward. Besides, the exam hall's rules aren't there just for fun, you know. So, I threw the notes away."

Some of my classmates were starting to hesitate, wondering if they should follow the rules as I did.

Michael sneered before they could come to a decision, saying, "There's no way they'll be checking. After all, we're from the honours class. The state's hoping there'll be some top scorers among us so they can latch on to our fame and brains.

"Even if we're caught, I'm sure they'll pretend it never happened since everyone's cheated, too. She's just stupid enough to say no to a perfect score. Just think about it. We might get interviewed if our entire class scores well. We'll be famous right after we finish the exam!"

Queenie was quick to back him up, insisting, "We'll be famous and have a bright future. That'll make all of us elites."

Then, she added pitifully, "Maybe Josephine doesn't want us to score better than her and strip her of the state's top scorer title. That's why she's threatening us with the exam hall rules."

The hesitation in my classmates' eyes vanished. Instead, it was replaced by greed. Michael and Queenie had convinced them to take the leap of faith. I turned to stare at Michael in disbelief.

In my previous life, he was the first to hug me after we left the exam hall. "Thank you for stopping me from cheating. I nearly ruined my life. You saved me."

I thought he was just tempted by the devil and wanted to cheat because he was worried he might flunk the whole thing. Now that I knew the full picture, perhaps this had been what he truly had in mind all along.

That speech they gave consolidated everyone's decision. Some even shot me a look of disdain, as if I was getting in their way to success.

Michael looked even more smug. "See? No one will be taking your side this time, and I'll be keeping a close eye on you. You won't be able to snitch this time around!"

I shrugged nonchalantly. I couldn't care less about this whole class of ungrateful souls. It was a pity that he was so sure that I had snitched to the proctor in our previous life.

He was so certain that he figured that things would work out perfectly this time around if he kept a close eye on me.

Everyone else started packing up and carefully tucked the notes away. Michael and Queenie thought they'd achieved their goal, and their lips curled with confidence.

It was then that our homeroom teacher, Ms. Erin Lawson, came running in, huffing and puffing. "Students, please check your stationery cases to see if you've brought anything unrelated to the exam. Do not bring anything irrelevant into the hall.

"Be warned that you'll be punished severely if you're caught cheating during the college entrance exam!"

Everything stiffened upon hearing her warning.

Michael was the first to snap out of it and promptly started roaring at me, "I thought you'd seen sense, Josephine! I can't believe you snitched again! You went to the homeroom after I stopped you from snitching to the proctor? Do you hate us scoring better than you that much?"

The others frowned and grumbled as well.

"I can't believe she's so selfish. It's fine if she doesn't want to use the notes, but why's she being such a pest about it?"

"Honestly, Queenie went through hoops to get us those notes. I bet she's worried she might not be the top scorer, just like what Michael said."

Erin immediately knew something was up. Her eyes swept across the room full of frustrated faces as she demanded, "What do you mean she snitched? And how are you so sure you'll score high? What did you do?"

Michael snickered. "Don't cover up for Josephine, Ms. Lawson. I bet she snitched so you'd check us!"

Erin frowned. "What? This has nothing to do with her. They're checking thoroughly for any form of cheating this year. That's why I came all this way to warn you!"

That hit everyone where it hurt most.

My parents noticed the commotion and immediately came to look for me. They knew what happened between us, so they couldn't help but look at me with worry in their eyes. "Maybe we should talk to him?"I shook my head and held my mother's hand as I said calmly, "It's alright. He has nothing to do with us anymore. Trust me. He'll leave soon."It took a long while before that happened, but Michael's voice eventually disappeared. I knew he was gone, and that we would never have anything to do with each other again from that moment on.I thought that was the end of it, but the Internet was baying for my blood a few days later. Apparently, someone had posted a lot of eye-catching headlines across the socials."Top Scorer Watches As Whole Class Cheats. Her Selfishness Ruins Their Future.""31 Out of 32 Arrested. "Yeah! Enroll them, too! We can't let our children be ruined!"These people were noisy, incessant, and were like leeches stuck to my skin. They kept going on and on about how I was the class representative and had a duty to save their children. Eventually, I lost any and all patience for them as I flung the hand that was holding my arm, glaring at them coldly. Finally, I rebuked icily, "No college will admit cheaters. Not Northberg, not anywhere else."That shut them right up. I turned and left without sparing them a single look. Their children cheated and tried to tip the scales with their status as honors-class students. They deserved to be punished, yet their parents expected me to deal with the fallout? Hah.In my previous life, I kindly saved them only to have my family destroyed. This time, I wouldn't do something that stupid.I went to the bulletin board and saw my name sitting at the top. Then, I noticed the 'Top Scorer' title written right below. I smiled and went home

  • Let Them Get Caught   Chapter 7 Begging Parents

I had left the group chat the second I was reborn, so news of their downfall couldn't even cause a ripple to my peaceful life. I knew their ends were set in stone, and all I had to do was walk the path I'd set myself on.The night the college entrance exam were over, my family made a feast to celebrate. My parents were sitting across from me, looking glad.My mother was all smiles as she filled my plate with food. "It's finally over. Let your hair down and go wherever you want."I nodded and picked up my fork. The TV was airing local news, and the news anchor said solemnly, "Breaking news. A severe case of group cheating has happened at a local exam venue. A famous high school's honors class is involved."The entire class brought notes into the exam hall, with the exception of a single student. It is a gross violation, and after the joint investigation between the police and Department of Education, they have arrived at a decision."The cheating students will see their results v

I retorted coldly, "I remember telling you that the college entrance exam forbid cheating, and that the rules aren't there just for fun."Their criticism died in their throats as their faces turned from red to white. I ignored them as I blithely continued, "You could've scored enough for Northberg, but you got too greedy for fame and fortune. Blame your own desires for your downfall, not me."Dead silence fell upon the field. Michael's jaw was slack, and his face took on an ugly shade of puce before settling on ashen. Even he couldn't come up with a single retort to that. The students who were blaming me hung their heads low, cowed. The cops were pressing Queenie's shoulders down. She glared at me with venom in her eyes, but she could barely breathe now, much less curse. The cops frowned in disgust and urged, "Stop wasting time and take them to the station already!"The police car door swung shut, and I could see Michael staring at me through the window. His eyes glinted with re

That drove the already guilty students closer to a breakdown. Michael had lost all strength and was slumped on his chair. Since the proctors had a meeting about this a week ago, that meant that I had no involvement in this sudden inspection, not even in my previous life. This was his second chance at life, and he had chosen to destroy it. Suddenly, he was reminded of Erin's warning about getting caught cheating, and it didn't take long for fear to take root in his bones. He held his head in his hands, his face white with terror, and he let out a quiet scream. The other classmates weren't faring any better, and everyone was tearing up. The other halls were also filled with whines and voices of some braver students pleading for mercy. Some even knelt before the proctor and begged for mercy. They cried, "I'm sorry! I won't do it again! Please, spare me!"Just then, I heard a scream. I instinctively looked outside the window. It was Queenie. She had put makeup on for the occasion,
