When the Hunt Begins

The second gunshot was not a sound, but rather penetrated the silence like retorts from time to time. It caused rapture in the metal corridors behind them and completely destroyed the fragile moment Amina and Adrian had just experienced, as they faced an even greater peril. Amina remained unfazed this time, even as her heart racered and mind racing, because something within her had altered from awareness to control. A voice inside confirmed that she was an active target, and now she felt like a threat again, no longer ensnared in studying or reinventing herself.

With his body moving on instinct, Adrian positioned himself directly in front of her, with a protective yet precise posture and eye contact for every possible entry point as the strain in his shoulders tightened. However, Amina chose to stand up straight ahead and refuse to be protected, maintaining her position and refusing to protect herself. Daniel drew a gun out of his jacket with stoicism, feeling piercing cuts in the metal as he examined it with precision, while the other person from Amina's past remained unfazed and focused on the dark entrance.

"They're not sending in professional athletes," he said calmly, his certainty making the situation more poignant. "If they've confirmed her... they will finish it.".

Amina's fingers were curled at her sides, causing her mind to race, not in fear of panic but as fragments of a puzzle repeated themselves faster than she could react. "No," she said with tension and firmness, drawing all eyes on her. “They won't rush.” She was wearing sunglasses.

Looking at her, Adrian had a sharp and questioning look on his face. "What the hell is that?".

"I'm not quite sure what I've become," she explained, blinking her eyes briefly to the facility behind them, where shadows flickered across the walls. "They're watching first." She wished for more clarity on her situation.

She spoke about the moment when the lights inside were flickering violently, causing parts of the building to go dark before stabilizing. Finally, there was the sound of slowly moving footsteps echoing from within as shadows began to appear. They weren't rushing like Amina had predicted.? They proceeded at a precise pace, their movements coordinated and almost mechanical, and for an instant, it felt like the facility was sending them away.

Daniel quickly hoisted his weapon up. "That's not a good thing.".

While Adrian remained unresponsive, his mind raced to the approaching numbers and calculated distance/timing. Amina then came forward with an expression that deepened as she realized something deeper had occurred. "Wait," she said.

Too late.

Not from their side, but from the group that was moving towards them - with the bullet striking the ground just inches away from Amina and sending concrete fragments flying off.'". Adrian's reaction was immediate, as he grabbed her arm and pulled her back while Daniel fired repeatedly, causing a chaotic explosion of sound and movement that erased any memory of hesitation. This man of her youth whizzed away, drifting off into the side of the building as if he had something to say, leaving the three of them to deal with the immediate threat.'

The gunfire was heard by Daniel, who shouted "Inside!".

With a surprising voice, Amina replied with "No" and gave the impression that's what they wanted. She was right at heart.

A closer look at the shot made Adrian shift his gaze as he pulled her behind partial cover, with his grip firm but not restrictive. He looked up and down to find clarity instead of any words or thoughts. Not fear. Not confusion.

Focus.

"Amina," he stated, his voice quieter, pressing but disciplined, "this isn't the moment to demonstrate anything.".

She stated that she was not proving anything and focused on the moving figures as something almost imperceptible changed in the air. "I'm understanding.".

And then it happened.

Once again, the lights flickered and didn't seem to stay in place.

They dimmed.

All at once.

As if something had taken over the situation.

As the attackers halted, their movements suddenly became more erratic and unclear, prompting Amina to slow down as her thoughts slowly drifted towards something deeper. This was not so much for her until this moment. That was more than a mere location.

It was connected to her.

Designed by her.

And now—.

Responding to her.

Despite his inability to explain how, Adrian felt the impact of the changing environment and recognized that this was not just about survival. He carefully observed her and understood that everything was connected. However, he couldn't describe how it all happened. This was transformation.

Initially, he said, "Amina..." but the words disappeared as she raised her hand slightly, not in a dramatic manner.

The lights cut out completely.

Darkness swallowed the space.

Once again, the gunfire was dispersed and chaotic, with no clear target in sight. Amina acted purposefully, seemingly unaware of her surroundings and capable of seeing things without assistance. Her awareness transcended physical distance. Following suit instinctively, Adrian trusted her beyond reason, while Daniel muttered something under his breath as he adjusted, visibly unsettled but not willing to give up. Her response was the best one for me.

Amina whispered, "They've gone without sight," with her voice echoing as if reading from a map. "But they'll get used to it.".

"We don't allow them to delay," Adrian replied, his voice firm and steady. He was near enough to defend, yet unrestrained.

The momentum, trust and unambiguous relationship were brief, but the moment drew to a halt.

A person appeared before them, coming within sight of everyone else, moving at a faster pace, its presence more distinct, and speaking without any response.

"Subject Amina," it said, its tone soft and almost human but tinged with warmth. "You've gone beyond what was expected.".

Recognition caused Amina to catch her breath slightly, not out of fear..

This wasn't just another operative.

This was something else.

Something designed specifically for her.

Without hesitation, Adrian stepped forward and placed himself between them, but the figure didn't raise a weapon. The creature lowered its head and studied Amina with strange precision.

'You weren’t supposed to get your freedom,' the message continued. ‘This result needs to be corrected.

"You're holding your breath as I pondered that, even as the tension between them intensified.".

The figure paused.

Then—.

“Yes.”.

Despite the speed of the object, its velocity was too high to track accurately, leading to Adrian's immediate reaction and causing both of them to shake slightly in surprise upon impact. Daniel fired, but the shape acted as if it were coming off, moving only so far and its trajectory calibrated to perfection.'

“Amina, go!” Adrian shouted.

But she didn't move.

Because something felt wrong.

Not about the attack.

About him.

With a slight narrowing of her eyes, she contemplated the figure and realized that there was something deeper than just the apparent conflict, something concealed by their movements and voice.

A pattern.

A familiarity.

And then—.

It clicked.

Her breath sank as she was deeply disturbed by the realization.

“No…” she whispered.

Once again, the shape turned its back on her, as if she had been waiting for it to happen.

It was stated that "You can see it now.",

Amina's voice trembled with shock, not fear.

“I have no intention of harming you.”.

A pause.

A fraction of a second.

Then—.

The figure calmly replied, "I come to take your place.".

The words caused destruction beyond their intended meaning.

In the course of standing before her..,

Wasn't just an enemy.

A different kind of Amina.

  • Letters Between Hearts   The World That Forgot Him

But Amina woke up before she knew where she was.She didn't open her eyes and acknowledge the space, but rather because something inside her body refused to accept the silence as normal. This was the case. What happened next? It was too clean. Too balanced. Too complete. The silence was not caused by peace, but rather by emancipation. While she remained motionless for a while, she gazed up at eerily unadorned from angled upwards to accentuate an otherwise ordinary ceiling that seemed familiar but more objectionable after some time. Not broken. Not damaged.Just… rewritten. She slowly rose, her hands pressed against the surface beneath her, sensing its texture, stability, and lack of memory. The facility was not found..__ No flickering lights. The environment lacks any hum emanating from beneath it. No Adrian. The thought caused her chest to tighten.?Adrian.Her mind absorbed the name, but not in a meaningful way. The experience was akin to holding onto lingering on despite the fact t

  • Letters Between Hearts   The Layer Where Love Breaks

Adrian's decline was not a sudden flash of disappearance, but rather lingering and becoming increasingly unbearable, as if reality were slowly wiping him out. At first his lines were blurred, then he felt like a weight was losing its grip on the space, until it seemed as though the system was deciding how much of him to remain. Reaching for him, Amina's breath caught sharply as she flicked her fingers, almost like he was already becoming something unattainable. After the beginning of it all, she muttered "No, stay no." Her voice still broke, but her words were still spoken. With a backseat, Adrian watched his hand switch from life to death and then return to her. Even with an expression of fear, his voice remained unwavering. “Amina... don't chase me if it pulls you under.”."She stated that it was not a choice, moving closer and closer, as though she had the sheer determination to hold on to him.Nevertheless, the surrounding area gave way.'The pulse was not violent, but rather puls

  • Letters Between Hearts   After the Silence

The darkness didn't feel empty. It felt complete. The system's failure was followed by a brief moment of silence, with no alarms, flickering lights, or the mechanical hum in the facility that had affected Amina' life. With his head bowed, Adrian's breath was off center and eyes were fixed on the spot where she had been standing just moments earlier. The warmth of the space did not prevent her from leaving. Not hidden. Not moved. Gone. His voice shattered slightly as he called her "Amina"; perhaps saying that word louder could bring her back to life. Despite the lack of signal or movement, Daniel moved forward slowly and looked around with disbelief. "There was nothing.". That's not normal.”. The man from Amina's era chose not to speak. Without any comprehensible expression, his gaze fixed at the center of the system core, as though he had just encountered both an expectation and fear. After moving forward, Adrian moved towards where she had disappeared, his hand rubbing against

  • Letters Between Hearts   The Choice That Was Never Meant to Be

When the system locked to its target, everything seemed to freeze up in an inevitable way. Air became thicker, charged with a silent verdict that had not yet been made clear but which everyone could sense. Amina was motionless, her pulse racing in her ears, and she focused on the other side of herself, whose hand held firm, controlled, yet unchanging. ". In close proximity, the facility reacted with precision, its lights flickering into a frigid, pitchblack illumination, as though they were readying to execute ostensibly waited orders.Amina's voice was emotionless as she said "Selection done," but its weight weighed down Amuna like a door shut. Her tone, lack of doubt, and humanity were unwaveringly evident. That certainty was more terrifying than any weapon.Rather than being calm, Amina was experiencing a slower breath pace. She wasn't afraid or confused for the first time since everything had started to disintegrate. This moment was something she could relate to. Not just a test.

  • Letters Between Hearts   The Man Who Built the Truth

Control was the more disturbing element in the air when he stepped forward, rather than noise or force. It was not just his composed and deliberate movement, as if nothing was at risk, but also the way the environment responded to his presence, with the flickering lights returning to life and the system becoming more controlled and organized. From the moment Amina entered the facility, she felt a profound sense of familiarity that was not based on memory but rather on underlying feelings that had been trying to surface since she entered.Even after she said "you shouldn't exist," the man only smiled slightly, as if it had been entertaining rather than disturbing.Instead of watching her, he focused on the other version of herself with scrutiny and reflection. It was like seeing two different versions of the same thing created by one artist, who each knew which had met his or her expectations. With a firm grip on his body, Adrian moved closer to Amina, but the man barely acknowledged h

  • Letters Between Hearts   The Girl Who Was Me

No one moved for a brief moment. The expression "to replace you" did not recur, but rather became imbued in the context as an unchangeable entity that could not be undone. With her mind frozen in thought, Amina stood motionless, breathing irregularly, and focused on the person before her, attempting to comprehend what she had already been thinking. The stance, voice, and stillness were not the same.It was her.But not broken. Not uncertain. Not searching.Perfect.Adrian made a slight shift, shifting himself between the figure and Amina once again. His instincts were firm as she stopped him, but this time Aminea held his arm tightly. "Wait," she said, her voice low but steady. “Don't.” Don'T do it." What happened next?Looking between them, Daniel's gaze grew in size and his expression became more refined. "Amina, that thing just said it'll come to take you away," he said."I received the news," she whispered, her voice becoming more sharp but not panicking.Focused.Because somethin
