Chapter 28 - In Defense of Life.... and Love
Chris went to scout the garden of the Monroe family house, while Salvadore and Johhan stayed outside the walls, waiting for news from him. Chris roamed the garden, taking the form of a raven. The silence around surprised him, and nobody patrolled the garden. It was completely empty everywhere.
As Chris got closer to the house, he heard voices, and also felt magic emanating from inside the building. In raven form, he easily sat on a branch of a nearby tree and peered into the dining room and saw so many sorceresses and wizards at once for the first time in his life. They were all sitting around the table talking, and Chris was surprised to see that Marco was sitting on the windowsill, staring blankly at some point in the distance, clearly thoughtful. Johhan and Chris had a great time battling Marco and Damon. They deftly escaped their blows, and enjoyed every skirmish. Before everyone knew it, another school year had arrived. Before it started, there were several more attacks from Salvadore, Johhan and Chris, but Selene was watched day and night. Later, even during her lessons at school, Damon was always somewhere around, ready to protect her, although he doubted that Salvadore would attack Selene in a place with a lot of people. Maybe he was getting more and more desperate, but for sure was not so stupid. After two days, more invited guests started arriving at the house and soon there were so many of them that on July 14 everyone had to move to a meadow behind the forest, a dozen or so kilometres from the city and only 2 kilometres from the valley where the battle was to take place.Meredith and Elisabeth brought great magicians from Siberia and elves from the Amazon rainforest. July 19 finally came and that day, from the very morning, Meredith felt that the opponents were approaching. Damon's anger was indeed waning, and helplessness was slowly taking its place. He felt as if all his life energy was leaving him along with anger, and when became like a normal demon again, he fell to his knees, completely exhausted. At this moment one of Alistair's troops moved to attack him. Damon knew he was too weak to defend himself, so he closed his eyes and suddenly felt someone grab his hand, then as if he felt nothing for a few seconds.
