Chapter 6

Author: City Scribe
The baby suddenly cried out loud.

The woman quickly covered his mouth. She was smothering him.

Spotting a guy filming on a tablet, I bit John's hand, grabbed the device, and smashed it into his face.

"Let my baby go!" I screamed, lunging for the woman, who had already reached another carriage.

The baby's cries weakened, and my heart was burning.

The guy with the tablet held me back. "I recorded everything and called the police, but you broke my tablet. That's not cool."

The gang froze and exchanged nervous looks. The older woman, who was the furthest from me, lowered her head and inched toward the next carriage while everyone was distracted.

I saw it and pleaded, "I don't know those people. I'll pay you back. Please, let me take my child back."

But the young man seemed to not hear me. He pulled me behind him.

I looked up and saw the same man I had struck earlier. He had gotten back on his feet, holding a rope in his hand.

The young man was unfazed. "We have it all on tape. Do

Peter was painting himself as a devoted tycoon, using public opinion to pressure me.In the past, I might have yielded. But now, Lucas and my family gave me strength. Before I could act, Darrel burst through the crowd, kicking Peter away and shielding me."The nerve you've got to coerce Hollie here!" he snapped. "Why didn't you tell everyone how you played lapdog to your ex and forced Hollie out with nothing while she was about to give birth? Need me to show the evidence?"The crowd fell silent. Peter's face darkened, but he couldn't afford to offend Darrel."This is between me and Hollie," he managed. "It's not your place to interfere."As Darrel clenched his fist, I quickly held him back and hooked my arm through his."Listen," I said. "I've found my family. I'm not alone anymore. The child carries my surname, and the man beside me is his father. I am the person the Harper family has been looking for. We're getting married soon."...The rims of Peter's eyes reddened. His li

Faced with choosing between retrieving their bodies or performing the surgery, Boyd chose the latter. But the delay meant that by the time they arrived, I had been abducted in the chaos. That was why Lenard was so determined to find me.Understanding Boyd's burden, I visited him with Lucas and told him about my rebirths."Grandpa, I couldn't understand why I was given a third chance. Now I do," I said. "It's because you saved countless lives, and God didn't want you to live with regret. So, if you still feel guilty about back then, please get strong and help me watch Lucas, okay?"From that day, Boyd shed his gloom and rejuvenated.Though we had servants, I still insisted on cooking nutritious meals for my grandparents after recovery. One day, before getting out, I saw Darrel playing with Lucas, who giggled at the pile of toys. These past months, Darrel had been around almost daily. Lucas would cry if he didn't see him.He picked up Lucas and ran over. "Going out? I'll drive yo

Nicole continued, "And let me tell you a secret. Both she and I were reborn. In our last life, you killed her and her child."By the time Peter's team reached the police station, I had boarded a luxury sedan and headed to Coastal City, which was dozens of kilometers away.Accompanying me were two obstetricians and a nurse, caring for me and the child around the clock."Rest for a bit. You'll soon meet the person you're looking for," Darrel Harper said. "Don't worry about those schemers. I'll make them pay."Darrel was that young man who had helped me earlier. He put away his carefree look and assumed a serious attitude. He told me that years ago, I had been in an accident with my parents. They died, and I went missing. My grandparents and other family never gave up searching for me. They enlisted every friend they knew, but no leads emerged until Darrel's aunt, the pawnshop owner, met me selling the pendant. That was why she had asked me so many questions back then. She took th

The phone chimed with a file notification, and the assistant continued, "Also, we found a voice recorder in the room. It contains a recording of Mrs. Sullivan. Would you like to listen?"Peter hung up, and his trembling fingers pressed the play button. The conversation between me and Nicole from that day played back.He collapsed into a chair, dazed.Years ago, when his family went bankrupt, Nicole's family cut all ties with him.He knew he had no chance of being with her anymore. He accepted reality and married me, who had stood by him through the hardship. He resolved to live well with me. But when Nicole cried and begged him, he forgot his promise and believed every word she said. She claimed she was forced to go abroad. Later, upon learning of his comeback, she planned a surprise for him but was kidnapped. It was all a lie, and he hurt his own child. The recording played on. My pained moans during my labor grew louder. Each cry pierced his heart like a dagger. He clutched

I was knocked into the corner of a table.Pain ripped through my belly as my water broke. The baby was coming."My baby!" I gasped.Peter paused, frowning at me, but Nicole's sobs pulled him away."I just wanted to check on Hollie, but she cursed me and tried to kill me," she cried. "My belly hurts so much. I don't know if my baby is hurt."With that, she collapsed. Peter scooped her up and glared at me. "If anything happens to Nicole or her kid, I'll break your legs."As he left, the cold sweat blurred my vision.I forced a bitter laugh. To him, I was always wrong.Drawing on my past lives, I pushed through the contractions. The baby came fast and quiet, like he knew we were in danger.Tears fell as I kissed his head. Ignoring the pain, I wrapped him in clothes from the storage room and tucked him in a basket.Melva and the maids were gone. Taking the chance, I slipped into my room, grabbed the gold locket, changed into a maid's uniform, and picked up the basket that held

To fund Peter's startup, I'd sold a pendant my parents left me.The orphanage head said I'd been found clutching it, with no memory of my past. They'd searched for my family but found nothing. This pendant was very likely the heirloom Nicole mentioned. Maybe my family was still out there....Once again, I saw hope.If she wanted that pendant so badly, it could only mean one thing. She was trying to replace me, and I needed to act fast.I recalled selling it to a pawnshop. When the owner asked about my past and my address, I hesitated and lied, just in case. After paying me, she held me back. "Kid, don't trust men blindly. Hold onto your money. This pendant's worth more than $10,000, but if you're set on helping your boyfriend, I'll give you that now. Take this gold locket too and keep it safe. If life goes south, bring it back, and I'll give you more. Just keep this from him."I didn't think much of it then, but when Peter asked, I kept quiet. Now the locket was my last stra

I shivered, realizing she had been reborn again, too.In my second life, as I lay dying in that stable, she hissed, "If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have jumped to my death. You think giving up Peter makes us even? Hand over that heirloom!"That was when I knew she'd been reborn like me.She had killed me once. That would be enough. Now I just wanted to escape with my baby. Still, she wouldn't let me go...."Melva, get her some maid clothes and take her to the kitchen," Peter ordered. "She's cooking for Nicole."He scooped up Nicole and softened. "Let's get you upstairs to rest."The maids surrounded me, leaving no way out. I sighed, getting up from the ground and following them to the kitchen. When I brought the steaming oatmeal to their room, Nicole was in a flimsy nightgown, her figure barely showing a bump.Peter was massaging her legs, all gentle. My own legs were swollen and shaky, but I stood quietly.Nicole slid her foot up, teasing him. He sucked in a sharp brea

"Take your junk and get out," Melva sneered. The suitcase hit the floor, its zipper breaking open. Filthy, torn clothes spilled out, tumbling down the stairs to the hall below.A sour stench filled the air...."Oh my God! What is this? Gross!" Nicole cried out downstairs.Melva froze, then snapped at me, "You timed this to scare Mrs. Sullivan when she walked in, didn't you?"I trembled with rage, ready to argue, but Nicole's eyes welled up.She clung to Peter, whimpering, "If Hollie doesn't want me here, she can just say so. Why did she do this? What if those clothes carry germs?"She gagged dramatically. Peter patted her back, easing her onto a sofa. Then he turned to glare at me. "Get down here and apologize to Nicole."Melva's lies were bad enough, but Peter's attitude cut deeper.I stood my ground. "It wasn't me."He signaled to Melva, who immediately grabbed me and dragged me down the stairs with the other maids.I stumbled on the last few steps and fell to the groun
